Censure Authoritarian is my favourite character from Realicide; too bad he dies immediately AND THERE'S NO FANART OF HIM AT ALL. ZILCH. </3 I have to do everything.
My redesign is inspired by the concept of the ISA (Ideological State Apparatus). Censure is a sentient robot that was manufactured for surveillance. Censure monitors and controls the media through his main body which acts like a radio tower and his many proxies go out and collect information (Censure and his proxies all share the same mind, they're not different individuals). His power relies on enforcing censorship (controlling what is truth and reality) and keeping up an appearance of authority. Censure is physically weaker therefore he avoids direct confrontation, his tactic is to predict (using the data he's gathered), overwhelm and scare away threats (using his physical appearance). It's extremely rare his fragile main body is ever out in public, his proxies do the groundwork. I was also inspired by octopuses. In propaganda, octopuses are used to represent a growing/spreading threat that's attempting to expand its control and dominance, which I thought was fitting since the media influences everything.

Censure Authoritarian is Genderless and Sexless but uses He/Him since masculinity is often associated with authority. As mentioned previously, he's a sentient robot that was manufactured for surveillance.

✦=- I like to think each of his proxies have a different symbol on their hat, like one has the YouTube logo and another would have TikTok. It's really stupid and symbolises how each platform has censorship.
✦=- His (somewhat) canonical name Susan was too iconic to give up, so I kept it and changed it into the acronym S.U.S.A.N which stands for the "Security, Uniformity and Surveillance Automated Network".
✦=- I kept the scary glitching thing he does when he's mad/experiencing strong negative emotions.
✦=- He readjusts his hat a LOT. Both because it's constantly falling off whenever he moves his head and because it's a nervous tick he does.

I'm happy with his design! I added some subtle colors, which I'm trying to do for a lot of the design updates going forward, now that I feel I have some more footing with Ersatz' art direction.

i think soulism has the potential to be really interesting, but his design and his character (in the draft of the last script) was underutilized. (but so does 99.9% of the realicide cast)
it’s important to preface that before i design a character i consider how their ideology will effect how they present themselves. i had never had the pleasure of looking into soulism as a concept because it hadn’t really interested me, but least to say i was disappointed. at best, most of the concepts illustrated in the pubic “soulist manifestos” that ive read online are super baseline concepts for most ideologies, and at worst, the ideas presented are vague.
most of the ideas presented in these writings (institutions in society prevent from true reality, “objective reality”, etc…) have already been written about by authors like antonio gramsci
(special thanks to my beautiful mootie toastie for helping me navigate this! the way this was written was extremely confusing to me and xe helped me out with most of what i’m about to describe.)
so, to make a long story short; soulist is now metaphysical solipsism! *jazz hands*
based on real philosophy and actually interesting and new concepts that feel relatively similar to what the original creators of soulism were attempting to achieve.
metaphysical solipsism suggests that the only real reality is limited to the mind and the mind alone, and any external experience in the “external world” is nothing more than a concept or an idea. no reality exists outside of the processes of the mind.
once again, do not take my word for this, i’m not a philosophy guy at all—please do your own research on any of the topics i present. it’s fun, i swearrrrr
originally, in the unreleased realicide script, soulism was a part of the alternative group that included kraterocracy, HMC, illumanist, and avaritionist. (which, i’ve officially all have designs now, yay! illumanist has one, i swear, i just don’t know if she’s ready for public viewing quite yet..)
i have qualms about him being the only brown character and also being depicted as a “spiritual stoner” but i’m gonna keep my wokeness to myself. long story short, i wasn’t ever really interested in him nor his design, he seemed rather flat to me.
with my revisions in mind, i wanted to keep him mellowed out as a nice contrast to the loud boisterous kraterocracy or the meek obsessive HMC. so, keeping his ideology in mind, i think of him being a similar archetype to the political nihilist in the original centricide. since he doesn’t perceive most things outside of his cognitive function as real, he doesn’t seem to have any interest in being an active participant of his team.
he doesn’t consider himself a team member because that would mean he’d be reacting to an external force. (although, he is a part of a team.) he serves others in his own favor to protect himself.
he’s most comfortable when he’s asleep, as he’s completely immersed in his own consciousness. i would like to imagine he’s narcoleptic or an insomniac. (or both, make him sufferrrrr)
i’ll have to think about him a bit more, but that’s what i have.

I really wanted to design Progressive and then I just ended up drawing all of them together, as one does. ^_^ I love the moderates so much, I like to think they're all good friends and get along more than the extremists. It's a shame I don't see much art of them.
Socdem's design makes zero sense unless you know the lore behind it </3, Progressive is obviously inspired by hippies, Chriscon is inspired by the church, and Libertarian is inspired by the Victorian period (well-known for its Industrial Revolution.)

Social Democracy is a Cis-man (He/Him) and Gay (MLM). He's in a relationship with Social Liberalism. Socdem does public speaking/activism. I like to think he owns a library.
Progressive is Genderqueer (Any) and AroAce. They're that one unemployed friend who totally owns a crystal shop and sells overpriced statues of buddha, and smells like weed and incense. Rest in peace Progressive you would've loved matcha. He's 100% vegan.
Chriscon is a Cis-man (He/Him) and Gay (MLM) (He's HEAVILY in the closet O_O) He works as a pastor at church and enjoys reading in his spare time.
Libertarian is a Transman (He/Him), Pansexual and Asexual. He's the second-in-command at AnCorp. and lovingly married to Ancap.
Since they're all moderates, they're all naturally reserved and averse to confrontation. They'd rather discuss things over a cup of tea instead of getting into arguments and that's probably why they get along so well with each other.
