The Life Cycle Of A Star by Jack Hughes
So I just wanted to clarify this post because there is a slight error I believe. A “red” giant, is a type yellow star that has used up all its hydrogen and has begun to fuse helium into denser elements. A red giant will rarely (read: never) have the capacity to become dense enough to become a supernova. It does not have the heat nor the energy to fuse elements into iron or higher which is necessary to collapse the core of a star. The second path should be from main sequence (which can be from yellow dwarf to blue giant) into either a red giant OR a supergiant blue or white star, these stars have the capacity to fuse exceptionally heavy elements which is necessary into the core collapse or a star.Â
