Have always thought that the sense of weariness and decay in the later lore is rather thematically significant too. And it feels like something that was purposefully leaned into as well. this time period is the forerunner to an apocalypse. You have the leftovers of volatile conflict, you have man playing god, you have the futility of man’s striving. c!Dream’s plan that involves killing everyone but also making everyone immortal (sounds like him wanting to restart the server in a controlled fashion??), Tubbo’s nukes, the Egg, etc… there definitely is this fascinating atmosphere.
