ok imagine that you're a man with the weight of the world on your shoulders, a weight that feels crushing on a good day, and the only person who truly, completely understands what it's like is your best friend, the one who shoulders that weight with you, the one who pushes you where you don't want to go and who holds your heart so gently as he forces you there. and then imagine that his wife, who likes the violin and gorgeous pearls and who likes him--your brash and strong best friend--is now leaving him, and you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is because of the responsibility you shoulder, because of the weight he carries with you. and you like her, you like her smile, and her way of making him feel ok on mornings when he had no right to, and you're so angry with her and with yourself that the only thing you can do is yell at him. and he yells back, but he doesn't admonish you, and then you get your head on straight and apologize, and then, for a few beautiful moments, you allow yourself to love him like you've always wanted to, the way you've only admitted to yourself hopped up on too many painkillers, and you allow him to shine beautifully like the diamond forged by pressure that he is, before you ask him to carry the weight once more, and you offer your condolences for his divorce.

fellas. imagine being a seasoned white house reporter and you've got a crush on the new white house press secretary cause she's got legs and a sense of humor and god wished he had her unflappability. and then you're talking to one of her best friends about politics, and you do him a favor, so he tells you she likes goldfish. so you go to the pet store and buy a goldfish and a pretty little tank for her office, so she's got something nice to look at, and when she recieves it, she's laughing so hard she can barely contain herself, and she tells you she likes the little goldfish crackers

they're all like. what if we were a group of brilliant, relatively young professionals (mid 30s, but that's young for politics) who are all a little codependent but they're collectively some of the smartest political minds of their generation. and also they're all complete and total messes and naturally im like. #goals
