Just a simple message when considering the garden, waterwise, birdwise.

Billy Connelly 2001:

“Man acts wisely only after all other avenues have been explored”.

 When I thought about this statement, I could think of hundreds of examples…some even my own!

An example: Building the dreaded Ikea flat-pack, Gather tools, spread contents of flat-pack all over house, try every possible combination. After 6hrs partner hands you the instructions.

Here’s a quick challenge, in a couple of minutes, how many examples can you write down that fits the quote…?

 Frightening once you get started, even worse you probably listed some that affect you directly.

 Think of the DIY handy-person at home…how many tradespeople have been called to fix a disaster?

 And we have people just like those DIY handy-persons making decisions about how we live!

 Well from my last post, looks like the Dingo became the tradesman for the Dusky Hopping Mouse,

1.       Man brings in cats and foxes.

2.       Man thinks Dingo is pest and should be wiped out.

3.       Australia loses lots of fauna and flora due to cats and foxes

4.       Research shows Dingo is good for Dusky Hopping Mouse, bad for foxes and cats.

5.       Yay bring back the Dingo.

6.       Go back to point 2

Nature can sometimes be a great fixer-upper and I guess we are still in the “other avenues” of Billy’s statement.

 What’s my point you may ask?

 Well the environment is a passion of mine and the way man has raped, pillaged and plundered the landscape irritates me. We seem to be hell bent on getting rid of the things that may very well be helping us restore our home, are we able to stop what is happening.

 Who knows, “But our apathy may be the deciding factor”, our way of life has changed, it’s much easier to do nothing, I’m even guilty of this.

 Maybe it’s time to get involved in something that we often sit back and do nothing about.

 So where do we start…try this

 Go back and look at your 5 minute list and see what really strikes a chord with you.

What you didn’t do it!!! Well now’s your chance.

 Now I ask you to put just 2 minutes a day research into one that really strikes a chord with you and see what’s going on with your passion. Look for groups on facebook, twitter and any research papers, basically stuff that relates to you. Bookmark it into folders, print it and keep a copy, whatever, make a file easily accessible. Join a group, receive newsletters.

 No excuses you have a smartphone.

Get creative it doesn't have to be about wildlife. The Polly Waffle is coming back because of this.

Oh, and by the way, Billy’s original quote came from the movie, “The Man Who Sued God”.

The Dusky Hopping Mouse (Notomys Fuscus), is one very cool Australian rodent. But like many Australian animals, loss of habitat and predation from introduced species has, sadly seen a decline.

Here’s an interesting fact:

Although classified as vulnerable it is 40 times more likely to survive with the presence of the Dingo.

Why so? Dingoes keep feral populations in check. Thumbs up for the Dingo.
