After 3 months of experimenting and developing my project has come to a close, being consolidated in this final piece of work.

I first discovered Shiota’s Installation work at YSP and felt her flowing use of string as a material would be a great way to help visualise the ambience within a room. The huge yet delicate structure changed the feeling of the room being empty, to being full whilst reminding me of being such a modest material.

I visited the YSP for primary research. Initially I realised ai was not feeling overly inspired by the pieces exhibited... until I visited the chapel and discovered an exhibition by Chiharu Shiota which made the whole visit worthwhile!

A quick visit to a local church as part of primary research, which enabled me to observe how light flows through such a large, cold structure. I always find it intriguing how such a place influences our behaviour just out of respect for what the space stands for.

I was inspired by the design of an upcoming VR experience that transforms your surroundings into a beautiful rural cottage. Developed partly by memebers of Sheffield Hallam University, this VR game portrays light in a beautiful compilation of browns, yellows and reds. The warm colours highlighted by where sources of light comes from creates a harmonising effect that I have responded to by extracting the colour pallette and used those colours digitally to edit the effect of the photos I took initially.

So I have begun my final major project, which I aptly named ‘If Walls Could Talk’. I want to tackle the idea of ambience and how it effects individuals, depending on what sources the ambience. I have begun by focusing on how light effects the mood of a room by capturing a set of photos of my own house, seeing how my personal space is effected by a formal element.
