My demons lay asleep, dormant. Tucked away in a space it made for itself in the crevice of my mind. Sedating it is all I could manage, keeping it locked up deep enough that it would take intention to reach it. I keep it, because it is too big and ugly to let out. I keep it because containing it means it doesn’t get to rear its ugly head at unsuspecting loved ones in my life.
I contain it in the darkness to keep it from tainting what light I have left in me. And if the day is good enough, it stays still enough that I forget it’s there. I consider that peace.
