AN: You sent it correct the first time no worries! I just had too many ideas I wanted to write this as some headcanons to work through them all!

Nick decides that he still wants to continue work on his zombie novel

Except he very quickly realizes that with writing the Pepperwood series he just doesn’t have the same amount of time to dedicate to the novel as he once did

This leads him to finding you, seeking out a horror author who’d be willing to write under his name

You’re writing to gain experience working on various genres while at the same time world-building for your own novel

And Nick doesn’t see anything wrong with having a ghost writer for the novel he abandoned years ago

Basically it’s a win-win situation that leads him to be able to work on what he’s getting paid to write

It doesn’t take long to see the friendship that builds between the two of you

Sharing notes turns into him coming to you for proofreading or asking opinions on lines of dialogue

You allow him to see your manuscript that hasn’t been read by anyone

The more you work on the zombie novel the closer you two get and that alerts the rest of the loft to see what Nick can’t

What he feels for you is written off as merely platonic

Sure he wants to spend as much time with you as he can and sure he cares about you in ways he’s never cared about anyone but that doesn’t mean anything to Nick

It of course means everything to Jess who sees it her place to play matchmaker

Cece and Winston get roped into it as well, the three of them invested in making Nick see that he’s in love with you

Jess wants to make it subtle, drop hints for you to pick up on and hope that you might make the first move

But you don’t understand that what she’s doing is geared towards anything in particular. It just seems like Jess being Jess

Cece wants to tell Nick that he needs to recognize his actual feelings for you and she ends up being able to get a conversation with him

Although he doesn’t believe a word that she’s saying thinking that there’s no way he has feelings for you

Not that he couldn’t it just doesn’t make sense that someone would be able to see what he actually doesn’t

Winston’s idea is just to prank the two of you together. There’s not a lot of thought put into this but Cece and Jess have to admit it’s kind of genius because a few of the pranks have managed to put you and Nick closer together (physically and emotionally)

The three of them attempt to get Nick to admit his feelings for you multiple times, working together to formulate and execute many plans

Schmidt tries to chime in but refuses to get mixed up in what he sees as an ongoing disaster. Knowing Nick for as long as he has he feels that Nick will put everything together

This won’t stop everyone from trying to help set the two of you up. At one point a blind date was even arranged but you both just brush everything off because ‘we don’t have feelings for one another although we both kind of have feelings for one another’

Honestly if Nick does come around to realizing that everyone was right and he is in love with you it’s during the most mundane of conversations

You’ll be going over chapter notes with him and something you say just sparks everything

Spencer tried to convince himself that you weren’t the unsub

He wanted badly to believe that the person he had been writing for over a year was innocent, that you had no involvement

Yet as the profile was being built there was no denying that you fit each point

The team had only been called in after five bodies were found yet Spencer wondered if there were more

Had you been killing since the beginning, since the very first letter?

Or had something set you off?

He knew you wouldn’t cooperate and when Garcia investigated the address the letters had been coming from it was discovered to be an abandoned house

The post office had still been delivering mail, had been paid never to stop but no one had ever said anything

You were good, practically untraceable and it was Morgan who led Spencer to make the first discovery

In the letters Spencer had there were numbers included, some spelled out, but some had the actual digit

He’d never thought much of it, a quirk perhaps, a personal endearment

But putting together the numbers that you had left as the digits created coordinates

Coordinates that when followed uncovered the location of the first body

The team then swarmed over the letters each trying to find more coordinates to uncover more bodies

You hadn’t stopped, not even while they were on your trail and if they could uncover a pattern within the coordinates perhaps they could figure out where you were going to strike next

Or even where you were hiding

It made Spencer wonder, had anything you’d ever told him been the truth?

Had you been toying with him, playing a game with him in which only you knew the rules?

He had thought of you as a friend and he wondered if you had ever really thought of him the same

Was he meant to be a victim before you learned his occupation? Or had he been friend now turned captor?

You had heard a lot about the BAU team before joining them.

About the cases, the trust, the bond. It had always been something that had fascinated you. You had experienced some things with your previous team as well, but the BAU was in a whole different league.

Before you had been moved there, you had already familiarized yourself with the teammates. You didn’t want to come unprepared to a team that knew each other inside and out. Also, you were a person who put your foot in your mouth quickly.

You were most impressed by Doctor Spencer Reid. You had heard the most about him. He was a genius, with an IQ of 187 and he could read 20,000 words a minute. Not to mention his eidetic memory. You had even read his doctoral dissertations. While you didn’t understand everything, they were incredibly interesting and gave you a little insight into the mind of the spectacular Doctor Spencer Reid.

When you first met, you concentrated on not reaching out to him. You merely raised your hand to greet him, which he returned with a smile, and although he tried to hide it, you knew that this small gesture meant a lot to him.

While the other team members put their hand on his shoulder or ruffled his hair, you were almost tensely careful not to touch him. If he should want to, he would make the first move.

It happened some time later, as you stood side by side in the office kitchen. While Spencer poured himself a coffee, you poured hot water into your teacup. You asked him for the sugar that was next to him, and instead of sliding it over to you as you had been doing, he held the dispenser out to you. You reached for it and when your fingers brushed his, it went through you like an electric shock. You suddenly felt warm and your heart beat faster, but Spencer didn’t seem to notice. He smiled at you before walking back to his seat. You looked after him.

People have always said that time passes faster on the way home. While that might be true for the people on their way, it certainly wasn’t true for those of us waiting at home. The minutes stretched into hours and by the time the sun started to set, I was already half asleep from the prior adrenaline rush from the text that read, ‘On our way home.’

The only thing that succeeded in stirring me from my seat on the couch was the loud, excited banter of two men on the other side of the door. That back and forth also stalled them enough that by the time the door did open, I threw myself at the first man to step over the threshold. He only barely caught me, no doubt aided by the other man’s hand holding him up.

“Welcome home!” I nearly shouted in Spencer’s ear.

“I told you we’d make it back before the sun went down,” Luke said as he wrapped his arm around the both of us. It was mostly just to move us from the door so he could close it, but there was some love there, too.
