“It just means you have to work double as hard as most people!”
Well maybe I don’t WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!
Why do you think disabled people deserve less rest than mentally & physically abled people?
Rest without guilt. ☕💜
If your body is asking you to slow down today, listen.
You don’t have to earn rest by pushing yourself until you crash. You don’t have to justify taking a nap, canceling plans, or leaving the dishes for tomorrow.
For those of us living with chronic illness, rest isn’t a luxury—it’s part of how we survive.
So here’s your Tiny Reminder today:
Rest without guilt.
The world can wait a little while. Your body deserves your kindness.
💜 If this reminder found you at the right time, I hope you carry it with you today.
Does anyone else get like. Mad. When able bodied people complain because they got a fraction of a taste of what you deal with every day? I saw a video of a woman complaining about how hard it is on her to have to actively work to be healthy (eating right, hydrating, exercising, etc) and like. Yes. Its exhausting. Imagine having to do that 100x harder because working to be "healthy" for me is being bedridden or having to weigh important chores against my body's ability or having to skip out on things I want to do because I physically cannot do them. I'm sure having to make sure you eat enough protein every day is so so hard though.
Sometimes I get so envious of people who are healthy. I see stories on social media of people I know or used to know and see the things they do or the places they go. And I get such an ugly feeling inside, they don't know how lucky they are to be able to do all that. It's so unfair!

man the awareness symbol for vasculitis is just a red ribbon. kinda lame. surely we can design a more unique symbol
Word.
It's amazing how differently people treat you based on what mobility aid you're using. When I'm using my cane I get funny looks from people because I'm a young person and "do you really need that?". Almost nobody holds the door for for me and when I drop something almost nobody helps me pick it up.
When I'm using my forearm crutches people are a little nicer but not by much. I get less funny looks and more people hold the door for me, but still hardly anyone helps me pick up stuff I drop. And if I'm out alone shopping or something, nobody helps me reach stuff on high shelves unless I ask. I get not wanting to come off as ableist by offering to help, but if you see someone clearly struggling you might want to step in.
Now when I'm using my wheelchair, that's a whole different ballgame. Almost everyone is holding doors, helping me pick up stuff, helping me with high shelves, and being really nice to me. But people often infantilize me when I'm using a wheelchair. They always smile at me, which sounds nice, but it's usually in a way you would smile at a little kid out in public. If I'm with someone then people will talk to them instead of me, and if I'm alone people will talk slowly to me or in a high pitched voice.
It's literally not that hard to be normal around disabled people I just don't get it.
It’s always “support disabled people!!” Until they need help doing “basic” every day needs. Until they need help brushing their teeth, using the bathroom, taking a shower, getting dressed, etc. Before you call yourself an “activist” think about what you would do if a disabled person asked you to change them, or help them brush their teeth, or carry them to the couch.
why aren't ramps the standard? they're so much easier to walk up, like why did society just keep choosing stairs when ramps benefit like everyone?

"mental health matters" until I haven't showered or brushed my teeth in weeks, have delusions, rage attacks, my house is a mess, I don't eat or workout regularly, or I do anything that isn't just 'being sad'
