Jasper felt like he’d just taken an anvil to the gut. How had this happened? How had it happened to Martin? A man who’d always been a pillar in the club, a man who’d been there when Jasper had first patched in all those years ago– how? Why? Jasper had known the man for what felt like forever and within the blink of an eye, he was gone. His head was spinning almost as though he’d been caught cold in a fight and taken a heavy hand to the chin– only this was far worse and it cut so much deeper. Who had done this, and why?
After trudging back into the Town Hall, numb to everything but the anger he could feel curdling low in his chest, Jasper looked on as the hall split into halves– Devils and Wolves. Was it just the way the cards had fallen or was it some sort of twisted admission of guilt? His lips twisted into a snarl as he eyed the other side of the room. He didn’t want to believe that they’d had a hand in Martin’s death, but it fit the narrative, didn’t it? Everyone knew how shaky the truce between the two groups was, and everyone knew how badly some people wanted to see it break. What better way to break it than with murder?
Abandoning his mask, Jasper swallowed down a mouthful of whiskey and slammed his glass down on a nearby table before sauntering across the invisible line separating the two groups. If there was a Wolf in the Town Hall with answers, he wasn’t going to stop pushing until he heard them. Spotting Abraham off to the side, Jasper marched up to him and reached out for his shoulder, “Was this you?” He asked, ducking his head a bit to level his gaze with the other man’s. “I don’t have time for games, Abraham. Just tell me the truth.”
everyone was on edge due to the events that had transpired. he had no idea if one of the wolves was stupid enough to do such a thing. especially if it wasn’t cleared by fran. he knew that either way things were not going to be that well. he was certain that the idiot devils were going to jump to conclusions like they always seemed to do. it was incredibly short sighted but it was how most of them seemed to operate. that was just one of the many keen observations that he had formed since he had returned from charming.
he was trying to figure out how in the hell he was going to spin it. mostly because it had been ages since he had to deal with such a major problem. the truce between the two had always been on thin ice. it was likely that it could be broken but until that was okayed by fran, he wouldn’t allow it. even if it meant trying to be polite to the cavemen that he couldn’t stand. he had to stop himself from scoffing the moment he felt a hand clapping down on his shoulder. already he had the feeling he knew who it was.
he was turning to face jasper in an instant,” if i murdered someone do you truly believe that i would be stupid enough to stick around?” he knew that he was doing the opposite of what he should but he couldn’t help but get under jasper’s skin. it was something that he seemed to easily be able to do,” i want to know who did it just as much as you do but believe me,” he said instantly,” if i did this i wouldn’t be scared to tell you that i did.”
