My Brother, Graphite on Paper

The ocean stretched out like a blank page, and Ford had spent a lifetime chasing the next line, the next answer. But tonight, as the Stan O’ War II rocked gently beneath them, he found his pencil refusing equations. Instead, it marked the curve of Stan’s jaw, the stubborn line of his mouth, the slope of his shoulders as he worked clumsily at a coil of rope.

“I can feel you staring, genius,” Stan muttered, not looking up.

Ford smiled faintly, eyes drifting back to the waves. “Merely observing. It’s what I do.”

The silence between them hummed with all the years they’d lost, with everything neither had ever managed to say.

Ford closed his notebook, heart unsteady. “For what it’s worth,” he murmured, “I think I’d rather be lost at sea with you than found anywhere else.”

Stan chuckled, but his voice was softer than usual. “Careful, Poindexter. Talk like that and I’ll start thinkin’ you actually like being around me.”

And the night air seemed to close in, close around them, as if the whole ocean knew what it was that neither brother could quite say aloud.

Had a dream that Alex Hirsch reposted some innocuous fanart and antis started freaking out because the artist of the fanart shipped stancest and it became a huge debate over whether Alex reposted it by accident until Alex just tweeted a picture he drew of Stan and Ford getting married on the Stan O War with Soos officiating over video call and everyone got even more pissed because Ford was wearing the dress implying he's the bottom

Do y’all think Stan still thinks of himself as Ford sometimes? It’s the night he brings Stanford home and he’s in the bathroom, exhausted and only a little bit tipsy after a well deserved beer he had kept hidden in his room all summer and he knocks over his hairbrush. It clatters on the ground and he mumbles a quiet “Dammit, Stanford,” as he reaches down to grab it, old knees aching. The silence is deafening to his geriatric ears after he realizes what he says and as he stands up and looks in the mirror he realizes he’s no longer looking at Stanford Pines, owner of the mystery shack and Great-Uncle to Dipper and Mabel, but Stanley Pines. A man who has been dead for 30 years.

He brushes his hair and walks back to his room with quiet, slipper padded steps (Dipper had always been a light sleeper) and sets his alarm clock for 6am. He lays down. Stanford pines closes his eyes and wakes up as a dead man walking.
