Hi, my name is Gwen, and I'm a loser who plays too many otome games. I play so many otome games that I have started reviewing them and categorizing the romancable characters. Welcome to my hell. (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){ (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o), m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m) })(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga'); ga('create', 'UA-58392030-1', 'auto'); ga('send', 'pageview');
Logged into this blog for the first time in several years and this message made me smile. While I don't think I'll ever return to this project, sharing my thoughts and discussing this weird little niche of games with people brought me a lot of joy. Miss you all. Merry Christmas.

The Ladyās Choice is an amazing historical otome game by Seraphinite. This pay-what-you want game is super unique; I think itās the first fairly authentic historical otome game Iāve ever played, and Iām surprised itās not a more popular setting. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, with an abundance of CGs. I absolutely love the writing style, and although I admit Iām not enough of a history buff to detect small inaccuracies I felt like the game was very immersive and seemed true-to-life. Two of the biggest selling points for me are the fact that the protagonist has a female best friend and the protagonistās personality; I know otome games are focused on the romance, but it still makes me happy to see games that still pass the Bechtel test, and anyone who has looked at my blog for ten seconds knows how I feel about characters with shapeable personalities. Overall, this is an amazing game, and I totally recommend it.
The premise of the game is that the (nameable) protagonist is an heiress who, by her own choice, has spent the past few years relatively isolated at her familyās estate. It is only due to her best friendās request that she has returned to high society to attend the events of the upper class. While there, she meets a number of potential suitors, and itās up to her to navigate high society and win the heart of her chosen man.
Mr. Amesbury: Friendly Type
Although friendly type characters are often fairly flat, Mr. Amesbury is a delightful exception to the rule. Heās very much an amicable person, but heās not lacking the traditional friendly archetype flaw of a lack of responsibility. As a man of high society, heās expected to follow strict rules about his behavior, but Mr. Amesbury sees no reason to live by other peopleās expectations. He is regularly pushing boundaries and breaking the norms -- possibly even more than the protagonist may recognize. However, just because heās a friendly type character doesnāt mean you donāt get some A+ flirting on his route. Mr. Amesbury is a self-proclaimed romantic, and once he feels a connection to the protagonist he doesnāt work terribly hard to hide it.
Mr. Stanton: Mysterious Type
Talk about tall, dark, and handsome. To be honest, I didnāt think Iād really enjoy Mr. Stantonās route -- I guess I was afflicted by the gossip of his scandal as much as the members of Society. Although Mr. Stanton readily admits to the rumors of gambling that surround him, he seems to take them mostly in stride and is largely a stoic figure throughout his route. His situation as a pariah often sidelines him at Society events, and itās more likely to run into him in the unsavory parts of town than in the midst of a formal affair. However, his kind, generous attitude seems to conflict with his ostracized name -- and itās not until he reveals a deeper secret that the pieces truly fall into place.
Captain Blake: Awkward Type
Captain Blake wasnāt born into the upper classes, rather working his way up through the military ranks on merit. Heās uncomfortable in Society, and remains stiff and serious throughout his route. Given his origins, he is especially uneasy as he begins courting the protagonist since her station is above his. Although his awkwardness fades with time, especially theyāre alone, he never quite loses his stiff demeanor. Captain Blake was my favorite of the love interests, and (though I donāt want to give anything away) I LOVED the plot for his route.Ā
Cinderella Phenomenon is a gorgeous otome game by Dicesuki. Oh my god, you guys, this game. I love the world SO MUCH, and the art is incredible, and the writing is superb, and the plot is phenomenal, and Iām going to run out of positive adjectives to describe it if I try to keep going. Thank you to everyone who recommended this game to me, it is amazing.
The premise of the game is that the protagonist, Lucette (renameable), is a crown princess of her kingdom. Despite her life of luxury, she is a miserable and cold-hearted person, feared by her subjects. She is cursed by a witch, causing everyone to forget who she is and transforming her into a pauper. In order to break her curse, she has to perform three good deeds -- which is harder than it sounds, for someone as awful as her. Taken in at the Marchen, a tavern specifically for those afflicted with fairytale curses, Lucette tries to become a better person, and possibly finds love in the process.
More below the cut!
This game has heavy themes of parental abuse and neglect, as well as a good number of fight scenes with descriptions of bloodshed and death.
Rod: Jerk Type
I love that Rodās shota type look, complete with fricking rabbit stuffed animal, is completely undercut by his actual personality. Rod is the least cheerful love interest in the entire game; there is not an iota of bouncy childish wonder to this man. He may be younger than Lucette, but that doesnāt stop him from being downright brutal to her initially. Obviously, Rodās ātragic back storyā characteristic of the jerk type is, well... Actually Lucetteās fault, so itās hard to blame him for his treatment of her. But the development of their relationship over the course of his route is beautiful, and the game is long enough that it isnāt rushed the same way this sort of path normally is. Iām usually kind of creeped out by step-sibling routes, but I personally found Rodās to be really enjoyable and possibly my favorite in the game.
Karma: Mysterious Type
Karma is (literally) dazzlingly beautiful. Heās definitely friendly enough, although heās occasionally moody. However, his conversation is a little bizarre and somewhat shallow. From the moment Lucette meets him, itās clear that Karma is hiding a lot about himself, from the details of his curse to his life before he came to the Marchen. Although, with time, some snippets of his past are gradually revealed, he remains stubbornly unwilling to talk about the nature of his curse until the very end of the story. Karma is a fun character, even if heās frustrating at times with his unwillingness to communicate.Ā
Rumple: Player Type
God, I hated Rumple at first. But I absolutely love the way the ice-cold Lucette takes him down. Their constant bickering over whether flattery is good or dishonest is actually pretty interesting, and adds a lot to a dynamic that usually just involves the protagonist being constantly insecure that the player character doesnāt really like her. As more of Rumpleās history and personality are revealed, he turns from a kind of two-dimensional joke of a love interest to a genuinely intriguing guy, and I ended up loving his route. Donāt judge a book by its cover, I guess, even if the cover is littered with blithe compliments about the beauty of your eyes.
Fritz: Best Friend Type
Well, best friend might be strong, but given Lucetteās reclusive tendencies heās definitely the closest thing to it. She grew up with him, and despite her general distrust of people she does trust him. For his part, Fritz is loyal to a fault and puts Lucetteās safety above his own. And, without spoiling too much, thatās what makes his curse so tragic. I like Fritz, but I have to admit I think his routes is one of the weaker ones since we donāt get to spend as much time with him.
Waltz: Shota Type
Waltz is a very unique character. Despite being trapped in a childās body, his dark hair and red eyes still make him look somewhat intimidating. Heās truly an adult, and is generally fairly even-tempered and well spoken. However, he also hosts some childlike aspects, like his passion for puppets and magic shows. Waltz is definitely my favorite of them all, in terms of both character depth and plot.
Hello! Since NaNoReNo finished a while back, I was wondering if you had played any of the games released this year? More specifically, have you taken a look at Cinderella Phenomenon by Dicesuki? In case you haven't please do! Who was your favorite character?
Hi Anon, thanks for your message! Iāve played a couple, although I have only just gotten the time to start reviewing again (and boy am I happy to be back!). Iām super excited to play Cinderella Phenomenon, although I havenāt gotten the chance yet. Iāll try to play and review it soon, and mention my favorite character in my review :)Ā
Hi there! Really REALLY enjoyed reading your reviews and descriptions of the romanceable characters. You really do have a gift for describing the core of their personalities! Just wondering if you know that Rinmaru has come up with another Otome game - Cardinal Cross. It is only a demo at this point, but oh boy! Just wondered if you knew! Thanks so much for doing this, it's a lot of fun!
Hey Anon! Oh my gosh, thank you so much, thatās so sweet of you to say :) I follow Rinmaruās Tumblr like a hawk, so yes I know about Cardinal Cross! I try not to play demos (they just make me so desperate to see the full game!), but Iām really looking forward to it coming out.
*cough cough* though I really wish sheād focus on Ascension: ETD personally *cough cough*Ā

Jurassic Heart is a bizarre little game by Hima and Piti. It was actually released a good while back, but the first time I tried playing the links werenāt working properly and I sadly had to miss out. Now itās up and running, though, so play it while you can! Even though itās a short game and, well, totally ridiculous, itās still adorable with surprisingly good art; definitely worth a few minutes of your time.Ā
The premise of the game is that the (nameable) protagonist is a human, going out to meet her tyrannosaurus friend to go buy him a new ukelele. Thatās... Yeah, thatās pretty much it. Enjoy!
Read about the characters below the cut!
Taira: Awkward Type
Obviously, this game isnāt really long enough to fully flesh out Tairaās personality. But from what we know, Taira apparently isnāt so good with people; he panicked when trying to play his uke in front of a crowd, after all. Heās also prone to stammering and blushing, especially during the end of the good route.Ā
(You donāt need a walkthrough; choose your guy, then either flirt or donāt for the romantic or friendship ending)
Foolās Helper is an absolutely adorable visual novel by Something Ventured Games! The artwork and characters are so cute, and the game is equal parts cute and hilarious. Itās a pretty short game with only a few choices, but it doesnāt feel rushed and the writing is really good.Ā
The premise of the game is that the (nameable) protagonist is just a normal woman trying to prepare for your slightly-crazy bossā birthday party for her cat when you bump into two different guys who are both slightly... Eccentric. Intrigued by both of them, she can pick one guy to help out with his rather excessive behavior, either as a friend or maybe as something more.
Just cute fluff here, nothing to worry about.
Read about the characters below the cut!
Brian: Prince Type/Emotional Type
Poor Brian. In a medieval setting, heād woo all the neighboring kingdomās princesses with his grandiose romantic gestures and manners. Unfortunately, in a modern day city, heās pretty much just a weirdo who makes women uncomfortable with his unnerving level of melodrama. And he isĀ melodramatic, with his intense emotional outbursts as he swings wildly between miserable self-loathing and childlike jubilation. With seemingly no filter (at least initially), Brian definitively wears his heart on his sleeves. Itās down to the protagonist to get his behavior in check, at least initially so he can try to win back the heart of a woman who he drove away with his eccentricity.
Lee: Awkward Type
Lee comes across as weird at best and kind of scary at worst when observed from afar. Stalking through the romance section of the book shop, rifling through the books with his face permanently set in a frown, he initially seems like an intimidating sight. However, actually talking to him quickly proves that heās just a really awkward person, acutely embarrassed by his efforts to write a romance novel that he believes is terrible. The protagonist, aĀ āromance connoisseurā herself, resolves to help Lee with his novel and helps him overcome his nervousness about writing in the process... Although his adorable tomato-red face never completely fades away.
First, I want to start by saying thanks for all the stuff that is on this site! I have discovered some of my favorite otomes on it. Second, I know you have played a lot of games and I was wondering if you could list the top 5 or 10 that you have played, either free or not. Thanks again!!!
Hiya anon! Thanks so much, Iām really happy to hear Iāve helped you find some of your favorite games; thatās why I made this blog in the first place :)
Oh wow, thatās a tough question! But if I have to choose my top five favorites...
1) A2 ~A Due~: God this game made me cry. Itās so beautiful, and the romance is absolutely incredible but itās not the sole focus of the game. If you havenāt played it, you actually have to. I still listen to some of the music from it once in a while, and just writing this has made me really want to go back and play it again.
2) Aloners: This game is incredible. YOU GET TO SHAPE YOUR PERSONALITY AND THE STORY REACTS TO IT. The premise is so interesting, and the interactions with your love interest are alternately hilarious, upsetting, and absolutely adorable.
3) Ascension: (Has anyone else noticed how many of my favorites start withĀ āAā? What is that about?) Oh my god this game is one of my firsts, but it hasnāt lost its magic. Iāve played it more times than I can actually count, sniffing out hidden content and tearing my hair out trying to choose between Zander and Kole. Plus, again, CHOOSE YOUR PERSONALITY. I CANNOT STRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THAT.
4) Our Personal Space: Holy shit you guys, this game. Our Personal Space is an absolutely incredible simulation of a relationship, but also SET IN SPACE. I made my boyfriend play it with me, and even he loves it. Thatās how good this game is. There are just so many choices and events, and each one either chips away a tiny bit at your relationship or helps it to grow. The petty fights and the grossly cute moments together are all so realistic itās almost spooky -- and makes it all the more soul-crushing if you go for a bad ending (I tried it once. Once.)
5) Serafinaās Saga: Sue me, I really love fantasy settings. Serafinaās Saga is great for a lot of reasons, with unique characters, a really cool premise, and a fun protagonist. Iām really biased with this choice, though, because Iām madly in love with Jezu.
Fun fact: all of these are actually free! If you havenāt played any of them, just click on the link I provided and check them out. Feel free to shoot me a message about them after you play, too. I am absolutely in love with these games, and will geek out about them with anyone willing to listen to me ramble. Plus I want to hear what you guys think of my picks!
Heavenly Playgirl Dating Sim is the only game released by TopazShrine. Iām really impressed at the quality of the art and unique premise given that this seems to be the creatorās first game. There are some weird phrases and word choices, but taking into consideration that the author is not a native English speaker the writing is fantastic (Even after several years of Spanish I canāt imagine how awful I would be at making a game in a different language). I was initially skeptical about the premise of this game since Iām not religious and thought the game might be a bit preachy, but since the only real moral issue is ādonāt cheat on peopleā (and obviously I can support that idea) it didnāt bother me nearly as much as I feared. Thereās not much of a plot or character development, and the dialog can be a little inane/repetitive, but thatās pretty standard for a dating sim game so I canāt complain too much. Overall, itās a fun game and definitely worth playing through a few routes that appeal to you.
The premise of the game is that the (nameable) protagonist is a cynic about love, resolved to play with guyās hearts because she believes that all guys ādate for funā and is sure if she got emotionally invested in them theyād just hurt her instead. As the game begins, the protagonist gets into a fatal car accident, but is given a second chance at life to prove she can find true love. She is granted five weeks to find love, and if she succeeds will be able to go to heaven. So, obviously, the rest of the game revolves around the protagonist seeking out true love in her town.Ā
(Iām going to start doing readmoreās to make my posts less obnoxiously long. Read about the characters under the cut!)
Sergio: Best Friend Type
Sergio is, indeed, the protagonistās best friend. Although they have only been friends since they were sixteen, Sergio is still the protagonistās oldest friend since he was the first person she met at her new school. They are very close to each other, and although the protagonist tends to tease Sergio she still cares a lot about him.
Vittorio: Jerk Type
Itās hard to label Vittorio a jerk, since he really wasnāt much of a dick and to the extent that he was the protagonist totally deserved it. However, he does fit the archetype, since he is very resistant to getting close to the protagonist. He asks her why she keeps talking to him and accuses the protagonist of joking when she tells him sheās interested in him in the intro, knowing her history of not taking dating seriously. During the game, he initially tells her to leave him alone and calls her annoying. Later on, he explains the tragic (well, more just kind of unpleasant) backstory that caused his cold behavior. Over time, however, Vittorio warms up to the protagonist and accepts her feelings for him on his route.
Nikolai: Friendly Type
Sigh. Nikolai isnāt a real shoe-in for the friendly archetype, because as a doctor heās definitely not a slacker. Ā But heās not obviously a hard worker either -- heās pretty much always just hanging out in his office without any patients, and doesnāt really talk about his job with the protagonist. Heās generally pleasant to talk to, and seems happy (if a little puzzled) about the protagnonistās miracle recovery.
Cleon: Quiet Type
Cleon is the other victim of the protagonistās car crash. Heās really not much of a talker, although he admits heās very bored cooped up in the hospital room. Heās also somewhat artistic, as he was only in town to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Cleon warms up to the protagonist gradually and begins to talk a little more about himself, but heās never very emotive.
Keagan: Eccentric Type
Just by looking at Keagan, you can tell heās an odd one. Iād say calling an exorcist on someone right after meeting them is also kind of a red flag. Keaganās fear of ghosts (although, to be fair, apparently they exist in this world), his rather unique ideas about how the protagonist could have escaped death in the accident, and his obvious obsession with the color green all prove his adherence to the eccentric archetype. I admit, his speech patterns are not very unusual, but his actions (again, an exorcist? Really?) make up for it. What else can you expect from artists, though.
Ignacio: Prince Type
Ignacio is a prince type character, but heās... Kind of bad at it. Heās clearly very concerned with behaving in a polite and proper way, always referring to the protagonist as āMissā until she explicitly tells him to just say her name and paying for her on their date. However, heās regularly making errors that make the protagonist uncomfortable. Of course, thereās their meeting incident where he attempts to exorcise and accidentally knocks her unconscious, but even after that there are a couple of small missteps. These errors absolutely mortify Ignacio, who apologizes sincerely and profusely when he realizes that heās made a mistake. Itās actually kind of funny; prince type characters are usually so polished and accustomed to their manners that that theyāre nigh unflappable (unless the protagonist herself challenges his conventions) -- but thereās no rule that says they have to be. Bring on the awkward princes! Iām 100% a fan of this variant.
Ray: Responsible Type
Just in case I wasnāt able to figure out these characterās archetypes on my own, the creator gave them handy little descriptions at the end of their routes, too! Rayās description is āthe extraordinary hardworker,ā and to be honest thatās really the extent of his personality. He works multiple jobs and is constantly doing his best to earn promotions. In conversations with the protagonist, he is constantly worrying over his job prospects. Unfortunately, we never learn where all this money is going: just keeping him afloat in our tough economy? Charity? An ailing relative? Honestly, I canāt help but feel like his character would have been more powerful if there was a cutscene in which he describes some noble cause that he was working towards. Regardless, his work ethic alone earns him his archetype, especially since thereās nothing much else to go on.
***SPOILERS***
Angelo: Unique
Angelo is actually a very unique character, because he fiercely resists becoming attached to the protagonist while still being completely friendly with her. Angelo claims to have no emotions for the majority of the game, but if he is pursued he eventually falls in love with the protagonist and finally admits it on the final day.
hi! so i was wondering, do you know where i can find a walkthrough for Monochrome Heaven? the game came out a while a go, but i couldn't find any "guide" for the game :/

I saw your review of 2 Minutes for Roughing and I loved it so much omg. I'm usually a total jerk-type lover but Jordan completely won me over and I loved him so much. So I was wondering which guy is your favourite?
Aw, thanks anon! You know, I actually thought Jordan was going to be a boring character at first, but he totally won me over too. He might actually be my favorite; it was so adorable watching Paige slowly work him out of his shell. Blake was a close second though!
Thanks to @datalore13 for recommending this game to me! 2 Minutes for Roughing is a NaNoRenO submission by Yoshibb. Although itās pretty short, the game doesnāt feel rushed, and the relationships progress at a relatively natural pace. I like the art style too, and I wish theyād had more time to throw in a couple more CGs. What I like best about the game, though, is its unique premise and protagonist.
The premise of the game is that the protagonist, Paige, is an ex-competitive hockey player who had to give it up because of her anger management issues. After some time off, Paige finally feels like sheās ready to give her sport another shot, and her brother has gotten her the chance to play with his team. From there she has to choose how to focus her time with her teammates, both on and off the rink, while monitoring her temper to make sure she doesnāt blow up in anyoneās face.
The game does include some descriptions of violence (it is hockey after all) and swearing, but itās mostly fluffy.
Colt: Athletic Type
Colt is the only one of the three romantic interests who seems genuinely excited to have Paige join the team. Heās also an incredible athlete, and Paige is constantly impressed by his skill at hockey. As athletic types are wont to do, Colt is immediately pretty flirty towards the protagonist, but heās not overly pushy about it and gets embarrassed and backs off if he thinks heās gone too far. Colt and Paige get along pretty well immediately, though, and their relationship only grows stronger through the course of the game as they bond over hockey and their love of cheese.
Blake: Jerk Type
Blake is an insulting prick, so in a sense heās a marvelously done jerk type character. It took me all of two lines to hate his guts, and the rest of his route to slowly warm up to him as hisĀ ātough guyā facade cracked little by little. Blake definitely fits the archetype to a T, with the protagonistās relentless pestering eventually bringing down Blakeās obnoxious defenses (well, at least some of the time). But what I really loved about Blakeās route isnāt even Blake himself; normally, protagonists have to deal with jerk types all on their own, but Paige has Colt and Jordan to call Blake out on his shit. Itās refreshing to play a jerk type route with other characters who donāt want to put up with his crabbiness.
Jordan: Quiet Type
I feel a little bad saddling Jordan with the quiet archetype because the category is usually reserved for pretty two-dimensional, backstoryless characters. And while Jordanās backstory isnāt *super* fleshed out, his dislike of confrontation and general quiet aloofness does have an understandable cause. With that being said, silence really is Jordanās defining characteristic. He tends to be off in his own world, and doesnāt generally start conversation -- and isnāt the most enthusiastic or responsive person if someone else does, either. However, on his route, Paige does manage to get him to open up over time and he starts being more talkative and lively, at least towards her.
Between the Lines is a NaNoRenO 2016 submission by missxtake, Seroft, Toots, and Fell. The art for the sprites is super cute, but unfortunately they didnāt have time to draw up any CGs. The story itself is a fun fantasy adventure, although it runs a little on the short side so I didnāt have as much time to explore this alternate world as I would have liked! The little glimpses into the other universe are intriguing though; the different constellations, plants, and magical properties have the potential for a much larger work. Anyway, all in all, itās a cute little game without many choices but with some pretty solid writing -- definitely worth checking out.
The protagonist, Bianca, is slumming it at her parents house and half-heartedly preparing for exams. During one of her breaks, she buys a fiction book and starts to read it. Suddenly, sheās hit with a splitting headache, and decides to treat it with a nap -- but she wakes up somewhere entirely unfamiliar. She soon realizes sheās somehow been transported to the world of the book -- with no obvious way to get home.
There are some depictions and descriptions of blood in the game.
Ettore: Friendly Type
Ettore is a rare friendly type, in that he seems pretty serious about his work, but heās still very excitable with regards to his passions as well as quite kind and friendly. Although heās initially suspicious of Bianca because of her inexplicable arrival, he puts conscious effort into trusting her and welcoming her into his home, going far out of his way to be a hospitable host and help her discover a way home.
Cecil: Awkward Type
Itās hard to blame Cecil for being awkward. On top of not having had much actual human interaction for a while (you know, since everyone he knew was murdered), heās been suddenly transported into a whole new civilization with people he barely knows. I guess all in all, heās taking it exceptionally well. Anyway, especially at first, he is very stuttery and uncomfortable, especially with regards to Bianca. Over time, he gets to be a little more comfortable, but female contact still causes some pretty extreme blushing. Heās very sweet though, and seems to put others before himself.
Oh my god, you guys. This game by Gourmet Visual is too cute, and Iām not sure I can handle it. The artwork, the world, the boys, the stupid pick up lines... Just, wow. I know the game is supposed to be a parody of otome games as a genre, but (while still being totally hilarious) it also manages to be fricking adorable. Also, I just love that the protagonist was the actual agent in this game? Like in a lot of VNs, the protagonist just kind of does her thing, and all the boys do their best to seduce her and itās just down to her to pick which one she wants. With this game, the protagonist has to do all the heavy lifting, and her complete, hysterical ineptitude makes it entertaining as hell. Just go play it. I cannot believe youāll regret it.
The premise of the game is that the nameable protagonist (auto-named Ginger) is a pastry chef who has been given the honor of baking pastries for the upcoming Pastry Festival. Ginger wants to really impress the other elves at the festival, and so she resolves to follow her grandmotherās recipe for a Heartbaked cake: the only ingredient sheās missing is love. And so, she resolves to woo one of the three boys she knows in order to create the best cake she can... Itās just a little bit challenging(and cringeworthy) given her complete lack of experience with flirting.
This game is as fluffy as a masterfully cooked souffle. There are a few slightly sexy references, but nothing beyond kissing is ever depicted or really even hinted at happening.
Radley: Best Friend Type
Although Ginger and Radley have a somewhat... confrontational relationship sometimes, itās clearly all in good fun. Theyāve known each other for a long time, so they know exactly how to get under each otherās skin. With that being said, Ginger knows she can count on Radley when she actually needs him, and despite all her complaints about him the one personal touch in her kitchen -- a photo of her and Radley together -- shows her true soft spot for her childhood friend. Meanwhile, Radley clearly has had feelings for Ginger for a long while, and sheās the only one oblivious to this obvious fact.
Benjamin: Eccentric Type
Benjamin is an odd duck. His complete lack of understanding or regard for social norms and insistence that the two sheep with him are hisĀ āfamilyā almost frustrates Ginger to tears when she first meets him. However, as she gets to know him, she slowly comes to understand his eccentricities and the root of his behavior -- and he learns to obey some basic social rules, like actually washing himself every once in a while.
Carver: Jerk Type
Carver is the other pastry chef in town, and Gingerās rival in baking. They are constantly arguing about something, and Ginger initially wants nothing to do with him. She decides to pursue him simply to kill two birds with one stone: embarrass him, and bake the best cake ever. However, as they spend more time together -- even if the bickering doesnāt exactly stop -- they realize that theyāre more tolerable than either one ever imagined and start to develop some feelings other than distaste for each other. I have to admit, I thought Carverās route wouldnāt be that enjoyable for me, but he really grew on me and the ending turned out completely adorable.
Magical Otoge Anholly is a NaNoReNo 2016 visual novel by Batensan. I was excited to play this game, because I absolutely loved Batensanās last VN, Magical Otoge Ciel (go check it out if you havenāt played it yet!). This new game has the same gorgeous art style and fantastic writing as the previous one, and some of the humor actually made me laugh out loud -- Iām not sure I can think of a single other otome game that accomplished that feat. The main drawback in the game is the lack of meaningful choices; but itās just such a good story, I canāt even complain.
Anholly is the only resident of her town, Solvalis. Sheās incredibly sweet, and probably more than a little too overoptimistic and self-sacrificing. The story follows her as she meets a stranger in town, Seihou, who seems to need her help. Thereās only one path in the game -- but you have a couple of options to shape the dialog along her journey.
After the fluffiness of Magical Otoge Ciel, I was NOT READY for the emotional roller coaster that was this game. The game has major themes of death and dying, but nothing is graphically portrayed. Even though thereās nothing graphic, be warned -- I may have teared up a lil bit during a certain climactic moment.
Riov: Best Friend Type
Riov has known Anholly since they were both children, and heās her only friend (so I guess, by extension, also her best friend). Heās very sweet towards her, visiting and bringing her supplies every week. Anholly definitely sees him more as a little brother than a romantic interest, but itās clear that for a while heās been interested in her as more than a friend. Heās more than a little awkward, and although heās mostly comfortable talking to Anholly he hasĀ a longstanding fear of strangers.
Seihuo: Mysterious Type
Seihuo normally seems very cold, but heās never a jerk to Anholly -- in fact, he grows to be pretty protective of her. Rather, he constantly hides or lies about things (especially towards the start of the game), trying to convince her that heās fine when itās drastically obvious that he is not. Although he does slowly open up to her, he keeps a lot of his thoughts concealed and doesnāt reveal the whole truth until the last possible moment.
Veltaire: Protective Type
Although certain circumstances (Iām vague for a reason, I promise) prevent Veltaire from helping Anholly, he seems completely unable to keep himself from interceding on her behalf. In practically all their interactions, Veltaire worries about or heals Anholly after some awkward blunder on her part -- even though he knows he shouldnāt. Veltaire is kind to the protagonist to his own detriment, risking himself just to try and save her. Heās really polite, trying to keep their relationshipĀ āprofessionalā even though itās clear even early on that he cares deeply about her.

Do you know what happen to the Great Personality series?
I donāt, actually. Unfortunately, a lot of big projects like that tend to lose momentum, especially when theyāre collaborative -- one person gets busy, and the whole thing kind of grinds to a halt. I really liked the first game, so I can only hope that eventually theyāll manage to get back on track, but I canāt speak to the specifics of what happened.
