Part 2 - "The More We Leave, The More It Feeds: The Sea of Plastic" This is part two of my final project at college, an installation artwork made out of recycled plastics, showing the amount we use and contribute to the pollution of the environment. I wanted to create something different, as I had the space, I wanted to create something on a large scale. I really enjoyed creating this as it was a break from the painting I normally do and something I'm passionate about. ☺️ This is the writing that is on the context sign that was put with it for the exhibition. No More Plastic No More Single Use The problem of plastics is increasing rapidly, polluting our towns, lands and oceans at an uncontrollable rate and damaging our environment and wildlife. Tons of plastic is used everyday, some only used for a couple of seconds until it's thrown away where it will last decade's due to the properties of plastic where it doesn't biodegrade. When it ends up in landfill it is mainly buried underground, contributing to pollution of our land. However, recently we've started to recognise the problem of plastics, mainly focusing on the ocean and marine life that are effected by it, mistaking plastic bags for food, getting caught or injured by discarded cutlery and objects. I wanted to create an art piece that not only addresses the problem of plastics but also using and up-cycling them within the artwork itself. I wanted to create something breathtaking but also creates an impact as it shows the critical stage we are in as plastic consumes our lives and will eventually consume our environment that we live in. THE MORE plastics WE use and LEAVE, THE MORE the problem grows as IT FEEDS on the pollution, getting stronger and more powerful and less controllable. I chose to represent it as a dragon as it is one of the strongest beasts; within myths it is thought to take over towns and cities and be at a very sizeable scale.
