Short chapter from my fanfic Demonsticity since i'm 7 chapters to finishing it.
He couldn’t remember who he was.
His mind was a foggy forest.
Or at least it felt like a forest.
Empty. Cold. Quiet in a threatening way. Like the calm before the storm.
Only I know what you want.
It sounded familiar enough.
But the man who called him that…
Bae wasn’t comfortable with him.
Bae was sure he was supposed to run as far away from him as possible. Towards…
Only I can give it to you.
Perhaps he was all alone.
Perhaps the man was right.
No one wanted him. No one ever kept him.
His hyung. The women who helped him on occasion. Not even the children he had helped.
Everyone eventually left.
So, in the forest he stayed.
He wandered, not expecting to find anything or anyone, but unable to simply stand still.
Sometimes the fog was too dense, and he had to curl up where he was. Wait for time to pass and life to end.
Life ended, right? That was the natural way of things.
Although this fog didn’t feel natural at all.
Other times, the fog was thin. Thin enough for him to get glimpses of a city. People reaching out to him with hungry eyes and entitled smiles. Four men turning their backs on him. A man with indigo hair-
Baek-hee squeezed his eyes shut until lights burst behind his eyelids. He crouched, hands over his ears. His whines drowned the echoes leaking into the forest. His claws scrapped the back of his neck, tangled in his hair.
Good boy. Taking what I give you.
“Stop,” he whimpered, the sound lost in the forest.
The fog thickened around him.
“Stop it,” he begged, tears slipping down his face.
His scream echoed through the forest, drowning the man’s laugher and whispers.
The fog was too thick. His hand disappeared when he stretched it in front of him.
He curled up and closed his eyes.
He couldn’t remember who he was.
