The Perfect Outdoor Wedding

Let me start off by saying I admit to having a multitude of personality disorders. After 64 years of occupying this planet, I still haven’t a clue what the heck is wrong with me. It seems like God, in order not to shock me, slowly opens my eyes to show me what stupid and wrong things I have done in my life. I used to think quite highly of myself, as a worldly and wise man. Nope, now all I do is mutter under my breath as to what an idiot I was as I see things more clearly.

Ok, I shouldn’t be writing my first blog about weddings and drinking beer at the same time. Not sure where I was going with the first paragraph. Will probably mutter how stupid I am when I read this tomorrow.

Two of my seven kids have had weddings in our backyard. Like any parents, we tried to make both of them as perfect and memorable as possible. 

For the first wedding we made this huge outdoor structure, kinda like an atrium with wood slats but no roof. Put boxes along the perimeter of the structure filled with flowers. Hanging from the wood slats we had baskets with more flowers. It was very beautiful. This is where my oldest daughter got married. We had a huge tent for the reception full of tables, a dance floor and music playing. To me, one of the most perfect moments of the wedding was when the sun went down and it started to rain. The newlyweds went out and danced under the atrium in the light rain, everyone watching them from the tent. It was odd and beautiful at the same time.

The “structure” as we called it was only supposed to be for the wedding, we made it out of regular pine. After a couple of years the wood started to rot, I was going to tare it down, but then another daughter wanted to get married under it. We decided to remake the structure, this time with treated lumber.

Here is where my issues kick in. Again, like any normal parent I wanted this to be the perfect wedding, but I sometimes take things to the extreme. Since this wedding was going to be in August, I decided to put in an irrigation system so my grass under the structure would be fairly green and not brown.

Since the theme of this wedding was Luau, we built a Tiki bar for the reception (which is now in my basement). In the structure we built a chandelier. The photos of this wedding are amazing, very beautiful.

That leads me to the purpose of this blog. My son Joe is getting married this June in our back yard. He and his fiance have very specific ideas which are very exciting. They talked about farmhouse style tables, a hexagon arch and other things that have become very popular. My son looked into places that rent some of the items they wanted and saw there were not many places around. After making a few of the items we decided that it made sense to start up a side business and rent these products out.

Oh, I know what you are saying. This blog is for advertising purposes for a new business! Aha! That is true! But not completely true. Believe me, I do not want to mutter more things as God points out my issues.

As most people, I really enjoy making people happy. Now that I am older I know that moments, memories are very important things. And I really do want to make happy moments in other peoples lives. I would like this blog to be about ideas for the perfect wedding.
