7 Things to Check Before Booking a Resort in Rishikesh
Booking a resort sounds simple until you're staring at ten different listings, all promising "river view" and "best price." Here's what actually matters when you're picking a place to stay in Rishikesh.
1. Check How Close It Really Is to the Ganga
Not every "riverside resort" is actually on the river. Some are a 10-15 minute walk away and just use the label loosely. If a Ganga-facing room matters to you, ask directly or look for resorts near known stretches like Tapovan, Shivpuri, or the areas around Laxman Jhula.
2. Understand the Meal Plan You're Picking
Rishikesh resorts usually run on EP, CP, MAP, or AP plans:
EP β just the room
CP β room with breakfast
MAP β breakfast plus one more meal
AP β all meals covered
If you're the kind of traveler who likes trying local food spots, don't lock yourself into AP. Save the money and eat out instead.
3. Season Changes Everything β Price and Experience
September to April is when Rishikesh is at its best β clear skies, comfortable weather, and full access to outdoor activities. Book in peak months (especially around Diwali, New Year, and long weekends) and expect prices to climb noticeably compared to off-season.
4. Don't Assume "Resort" Means Expensive
Rishikesh has resorts spanning βΉ2,500 a night all the way to βΉ20,000+ for premium properties. Budget dorm-style stays can go even lower, around βΉ400-500. The word "resort" here covers a huge range, so always compare before assuming it's out of budget.
5. Check What Adventure Add-Ons Are Actually Included
A lot of resorts advertise access to rafting, camping, trekking, ziplining, or bungee jumping β but "access" sometimes just means they'll arrange it for an extra cost, not that it's bundled in. Worth confirming before you book if you're budgeting for a full adventure trip.
6. Look at Group and Corporate Suitability if Relevant
Planning a group trip or work offsite? Several resorts now offer proper conference facilities and team-building setups alongside the usual leisure amenities. Not all of them though, so it's worth checking if that's part of your plan.
7. Weekend Packages Can Actually Save You Money
Instead of booking a room and figuring out meals, sightseeing, and transport separately, look for weekend getaway packages. Many resorts bundle all of it together, and it usually works out cheaper than piecing it together yourself.
