Not to be a raging hypocrite, but…
If your nostalgia/age regression/age dreaming/whatever is just about reblogging pictures on tumblr, and occasionally buying the things in those pictures, you’re missing out.
Some disclaimers:
1. I have no idea how anyone else acts off of tumblr. Your age regression could be centred in the real world, in fun, creative activities, or it could be primarily a feeling. Your tumblr blog could just be an afterthought. I’m not assuming anything.
2. Maybe you do just like the kidcore aesthetic online, and it doesn’t have any deeper meaning for you, and that’s 100% fine too.
3. If (like with me) it means more to you than just an aesthetic, but you find yourself falling back on the aesthetic anyway, and having difficulty going deeper even though you want to: I don’t blame you for this, and I certainly don’t think it makes your nostalgia or regression fake. A big reason our nostalgia is so consumerist is that our actual childhoods were consumerist too. Toys, TV shows, virtual worlds that revolved around making and spending money… it’s hard not to be a consumer when it’s all you’ve ever known.
Speaking just for myself: I feel weird when I just reblog pictures of toys over and over with nothing more creative to break them up. I feel better when I’m reblogging drawings and play prompts, things that spark the excitement of imagination, and making my own original posts. I feel best when I’m not on tumblr at all, but out in the real world, playing and creating, whether it fits the kidcore aesthetic or not. I want more of that. I want to bring back what really made childhood special. And if you feel the same, then I want those things for you too. Good luck!
