You can't—can't—cant—CAN'T—convince me that somewhere between those eight years, Kishimoto didnt sit in front of a boxed TV one random night, watch My Own Private Idaho, slowly click the remote off, stare into the distance for five minutes, and go:

Suddenly, Naruto spending hundreds of chapters emotionally spiraling over one emotionally unavailable dark-haired boy makes a concerning amount of sense. XD

and then there's Sasuke, constantly crashing out whenever he gets "FRIEND-ZONED" XD
