[DECEMBER 30 2020, 5:07 PM]
After around 2 hours of driving, Johnny finally parked the minivan in the huge garage, as Lia instructed him. Everyone got out of the vehicle and Lia led them to the house. She rang on the doorbell and soon after an older woman opened the door.
“Ms. Lia, welcome,” the woman smiled, as she bowed down slightly.
“Please, auntie, I’ve already asked you to just call me Lia,” she smiled back as she fixed her hair. “These are my friends. You already know Ara, but I won’t introduce the rest to you, since they are a lot of people.”
“Are you sure you only want to use the bedrooms on the second floor? Because if you changed your mind, I can clean a few more rooms so that your friends can each sleep in a separate one,” the maid said.
“No need, auntie, really, we’ll be okay. I don’t want to make it more difficult for you by making you clean all the rooms.”
“You’re not making it difficult, miss-… I mean Lia. This is my job after all.”
“Yes, but you’re a person too, so you and the rest of the cleaning staff have to have some rest. New Year’s Eve is approaching, so you should spend time with your families and find time for your hobbies,” Lia explained. “After dinner today, you and everyone else can go home. I’ll call you if I need something, but you don’t have to come to work for the time we’re here.”
“What about cooking? Shouldn’t we come to cook meals for you and your friends? You’re all young and you need food in order to-“
“Auntie, we’re going to be alright,” Lia assured her, patting her back gently.
The woman nodded, taking a step back to make space for the others to come in.
“Does any of you want help with your luggage?” She asked, looking at Ara specifically.
“We’re okay, thank you,” Ara politely turned her suggestion down.
“I’m going to help the others with preparing dinner. Let me know if you need anything,” the woman said, as she bowed again, making her way to the kitchen.
Lia came into the house and invited all the others and when everyone was in the house, she closed the door.
“Woah, just how rich are you?” YangYang exclaimed, looking around the big house in awe, as he felt someone hit his arm. It was Ten, who gave him a scolding look; he wanted to let the younger know it wasn’t right discussing Lia’s financial status, but YangYang didn’t seem to care as he only shrugged and continued walking with the others, commenting on every single detail.
“Okay guys, does anyone want to take a shower? If you do, just let me know, so that I can show you the bathroom and give you a towel,” Lia said with a kind smile, which made all her friends smile unconsciously.
Lucas raised a hand, almost shouting “me”, but Lia quickly shut him down.
“Oh, sorry, everyone, except for Lucas. I just don’t want dirt in my bathroom, I hope you understand what I mean,” Lia smiled again, but this time it was obvious it wasn’t sincere; it was very hostile indeed.
“You think I’m dirty? But aren’t you the same, Lia? You think you’re fooling people by acting like a good girl, and I’d lie if I say you don’t look credible, but don’t forget I know the truth,”
“You piece of shi-,“ Lia got closer to him, ready to hit him, before Ara caught her hand. Suddenly Lia regained composure and took a step back, taking a deep breath and fixed her shirt. “I’m way too good for dealing with you.”
“Of course you are,” Lucas laughed mockingly.
Ara took Lia’s hand and led her to another room so they could talk without anyone else listening.
“Really? You won’t even let him take a shower?” Ara raised her eyebrows questioningly.
“Of course not! Do you know how many people he has slept with?”
Ara scoffed, but decided to play along.
“So why don’t you let him take a shower, so he can be clean?”
“Not in my bathroom, not with my hot water. Not in my house, not anywhere near me,” Lia said with a fake smile.
“Stop being childish, Lia. If you love me, you’re going to let Lucas take a shower,” Ara decided to also act childishly so they could find a way to communicate better.
“I love you, but I can’t do that.”
“Then I’m going to be sad and not talk to you,” Ara pouted, avoiding her friend’s eyes.
“Ari, please, don’t make me do that,” Lia said embarrassedly.
“Sorry, I don’t talk to petty people.” Ara crossed her arms, refusing to give in.
Lia sighed with annoyance.
“Okay, fine. You’re too cute, so nobody can say no to you, do you know that?” Lia asked, patting Ara’s head.
“I’m aware,” Ara laughed happily and the girls went back to the others. “Come on, Lu, you can take a shower, go.”
“Really? Is it really okay?” Lucas thought that was too good to be true.
Lia looked at his direction with hatred, but she didn’t stop him.
“Down the corridor, second door on the right,” Lia muttered and Lucas nodded, walking away. “So let’s discuss who’s sleeping in the same room together. It’s obvious Lucas is sleeping outside in the snow.”
“Lia,” Ara looked at her warningly.
“Why do I have to tolerate him?”
“You don’t. But if you tolerate us, you should be willing to at least give him a chance. He’s not a bad guy and I don’t know your experience with him, but he’s our friend,” Ten explained, hoping that Lia would listen.
“Okay then. But he’s sleeping in your room.”
“Deal,” Ten agreed, glad that he talked it out. “Thank you.”
“Whatever,” Lia rolled her eyes with annoyance. “All that Lucas talk is making me wanna throw up, so why not drink something?”
Lia went to find some alcohol which was an idea everyone accepted.
Later they had dinner on the big dining table. They all passed the evening talking and laughing, staying up until late. It was already early morning when Ara and Lia decided to go to sleep in their shared bedroom. They said good night to the others and went to bed, but not before they talked to each other about how fun the evening was.
Just before Ara turned the lights off in the room, she heard her phone because of a notification. She opened it to see she had a new message from Lucas.
In the morning Ara woke up from the smell of something burnt. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and went to check what it was, completely forgetting her hair was really messy because of the fact she just woke up, and she was wearing her pajamas with donuts print she didn’t want to show to anyone except for Lia.
She realized she didn’t look the best way possible when she found herself in the kitchen, looking at Johnny and Ten who were giggling over a pile of burnt pancakes they probably tried to prepare themselves.
“Oh, shorty is- What the hell are you wearing?” Ten questioned, looking at Ara from head to toe. She hid her face in embarrassment, wondering what to answer.
“I’m wearing pajamas. Never seen anyone wear such clothing before?” Ara tried to remain calm, slowly showing her face again.
“Oh, I did, but their pajamas never looked like that,” Ten chuckled. “Wait, is that a cat? Can I-“ Ten asked, as he reached out to touch Ara’s sleeve but she slapped his hand away. “It’s cute though. You really are one of a kind,” Ten said, as he kept looking at her colorful clothing with fascination.
“I agree,” Johnny said, as he turned another pancake. “Look, that one looks edible! Actually never mind, the bottom is burnt.”
Ten burst out laughing, looking at the burnt pancake, as he hit Johnny’s arm.
“I would have stayed here to make fun of your pancakes, but I have to go change before someone else sees me like that. Bye, master chefs,” she said mockingly, waving at them with a huge smile on her face, before she turned around to go back to the bedroom. But as she made a step ahead, she felt she bumped into somebody. She looked up slowly, starting to apologize, before seeing the smiling Lucas in front of her. She was so embarrassed that she just stood there and said nothing, before he broke the awkward silence.
“Cool pajamas,” he pointed out, barely containing his laughter.
“Are you going to mock me too?” Ara pouted and crossed her arms with discontent.
“Never. It looks very nice indeed,” he complimented her, as she looked at him with distrust.
“Yes, I even had a similar one. In second grade,” he teased her, as Ara hit his arm with a little more force than she wanted.
“Are you okay? Did I hurt you?” She asked worriedly as she saw him hold his arm with his other hand, as he was wincing in pain.
“Do you really think I’m that fragile? Hendery might need a doctor if you hit him like that, but I’m a strong man.”
“You’re wrong. I wouldn’t hit him at all, since he wouldn’t mock me like you do.”
“Good morning, friends. Ooh, fancy pajamas! Meow,” Hendery said, as he looked at the cat on her pajamas.
“Will you hit him too? He has just mocked you,” Lucas pointed out, as Ara shook her head in denial.
“I didn’t mock her. Just look at my outfit.”
Suddenly Ara and Lucas averted their gaze to Hendery’s colourful pajamas with a Super Mario print.
“No comment,” Ara tried to walk away, before Hendery called her name and she stopped walking.
“Actually Lucas and I were going to a café today, do you perhaps want to go with us?” Hendery suggested, as Lucas nodded to show his agreement.
“Is that a good idea? For some unknown reason you two always seem to fight when I’m around.”
“Please go with us! We won’t fight, we promise!” Hendery said, showing his desperation to have Ara go with them. Meanwhile Lucas was nodding eagerly, agreeing with everything his friend was saying.
“Okay, when should I be ready?” Ara asked to make sure they were going to spend some time here to get ready.
“In around an hour? An hour and a half, if we wait for Lucas to do his usual hairstyle,” Hendery explained, giggling softly since his friend really spent too much in front of the mirror.
“No, I think an hour might be enough. I’m going with a natural look today.”
“Great! See you in an hour then,” Ara waved at them, smiling, as she finally went to the bedroom to choose an outfit, brush her hair and apply some light make up.
“Was that really her no make-up face?” Lucas asked, as Hendery was still looking at where Ara was standing less than a minute ago.
“I think so, even though I can’t believe it.”
They exchanged a look before going to get ready. But when they heard the sound of receiving a message, they both were too curious not to look at their phones. It was YangYang, looking for someone to play video games with.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
Hendery was often told that he was everything a girl wanted to date: handsome, funny and smart. That was until they got to know him better. Then he was told he was too much, too overwhelming, had too many emotions and was too chaotic. Thus his experience with dating was as good as non existing. The problem: he has the biggest crush on a girl he met whilst studying abroad. But every time he messages his crush, he seems to mess things up further and further. With the help of his hyperactive friends he tries to win Ara’s heart but before that, he has to convince her he doesn’t actually hate her.
Sorry for literally disappearing for almost a month! I had exams but I passed almost all of them with an A so it should be alright for now. 😂 I missed writing so much and I’m so glad to finally update. I hope chapter 17 is going to take a lot less time. Thank you for the support! 💟
