“What is this place? Where’s Stella?”

“You?”

Greyson walked into Mandy’s Diner after decided he was tired of looking at the same four walls of his hotel room. Seeing the sign that read ‘sit yourself’ Greyson made his way to the front bar of the diner. He was picky about his food and wanted to watch it get made, so he wanted to be near the kitchen. He placed his jacket over the chair and took a seat. “So,” he said looking at the menu and talking to whom ever could hear, “what’s good to eat here? I haven’t been here yet. I’m starving, so something fulfilling would be good.” 

Flynn really should have gotten a better job. Customers were rude and he didn’t have the temperament for that kind of thing. Even today, on a good day, he was irritated at anyone who walked in the door. “Fulfilling? Probably should check out our burgers. They fill you up and cut your life in half with just the grease.” He was probably gonna get fired one of these days.

“oh, for gods sake. i can smell that from here and its absolutely disgusting.”

Flynn didn’t even bother trying to fight off his grin as he placed the food in front of a kind of confused customer. Without saying another word, he turned to Lyanna, approaching her table. “They think they’re being innovative, but they’re really not.”

*· ☆,.- Raven had found herself a job now - she was not happy about it, but simply needed it to survive - and it was already starting not so great from how it looked. “Nope. I am actually your new co-worker. What the Hell do you have there, though? Does not smell like something anyone should eat….”

“Teriyaki shrimp, like I just said,” Flynn replied, turning to actually look at the girl. She looked capable, but if she wound up being an idiot like the last hire, he’d definitely scream. “Am I training you?” It’d be nice for a heads up on something like that, but whatever.

“Ah ha!” Skylar clicked the arcade stick to the right, fingers quickly hitting the sequence of buttons she needed to preform the ultimate combo. “Take that mother fucker! Maximum ownage!”

“Ownage? What is this, 2012?” Flynn would like to point out that he wasn’t eavesdropping. He was several consoles over, playing a completely different game, and she was loud. And annoying. And- Ownage? The only thing that could have been worse was if she said pwnage.

“Being in a car for sixteen hours straight can really make a guy have to pee. Tell me you guys have a gas station around here. Or even a Taco Bell with a toilet. Really, I’ll take any store that doesn’t have some crusty old lady glaring up at me like she thinks I’m going to steal her bathroom key. Relax, grandma, it’s attached to a fucking knitting needle, I’m not taking it. Sorry, what was I saying? Right, bathroom. Does this town have one?”

Flynn watched the boy for a minute, trying to decide if that weird ramble was even worth responding to. He didn’t seem boring, but a couple well-placed fucks didn’t instantly make Flynn excited to talk to someone. “Nope. An entire town without bathrooms. Imagine the kind of shitstorm that would cause-” Flynn laughed. “Literally.”

*· ☆,.- “But school is important. And…. I am also sure it is dangerous to try to learn everything on your own all the time?”

“The fuck makes it dangerous?”

“then why are you acting like something’s wrong?”

“I’m just not in the mood.”

“I don’t have time for this,” he only had a short amount of time with Matt at the point.  A week as his brother had told him.

“That’s what I thought.”

stella looked up at her mother sadly. “i…i don’t know. maybe yesterday?” she answered. she honestly was having trouble knowing how long she had just been sitting there before they’d come in. she wasn’t cold but she let her mother go get the blankets. she couldn’t feel much of anything. she closed her eyes briefly and took a deep, shaky breath as flynn ran his fingers through her hair. he knew that calmed her. and he was still her rock. “i’m glad you’re here,” she breathed as the puppy nudged her hand.

estelle pressed her lips together. it was almost noon. that was no good. “i’ll make you whatever you want, okay?” she told her gently, worried laced into her tone. estelle was soon back with a bundle of blankets, she wrapped one around stella gently. she glanced at flynn, wondering if just maybe he knew what to do. he always knew stella the best. but she instantly felt guilty, she shouldn’t be counting on him when she should be comforting her child.

“I’ll always be here,” Flynn said, continuing to thread his fingers through her hair. This wouldn’t suddenly make it okay, it wouldn’t make her feel better or bring Matt back, but it’d do the trick for right now and that’s what Flynn was focusing on. When his mom returned, he looked up at her and mouthed, ‘Chicken and dumplings.’ It was Stella’s favorite food and could cheer her up more than anything else. At the very least, it’d be the dish she’d be most likely to eat right now.
