Truly I hate the fact that if you’ve got memory problems people just assume you’re dumb. Like sure it’s great to be able to list off perfectly memorised bullet points at a moment’s notice, but I don’t really think that’s an adequate way of assessing that person’s learning. That doesn’t tell me you’re knowledgeable on the subject, it tells me you’re really good at dot points & flash cards. Can you define them in your own words? You can remember them but do you understand them?

my take on the au "Rocky/eridian scientists secretly extend Grace's lifespan" is that. It would mean that once again, Grace has medical experiences decided FOR him, out of his control, re the forced coma or (if we go by book canon), the amnesia drugs. I enjoy the au not for wholesome reasons but for decidedly evil ones lolol. Would Rocky, traumatised by loss, so co-dependent with Grace that he cannot bear losing him, and desperate to "fix" every problem, go against Grace's knowledge? Maybe. Would Grace, on learning what was done to him, have the biggest blow up since the Denmark incident? Oh yeah baby. And this time, alllllll directed at his best friend in the universe. Because, deep down (probably subconsciously), Grace will always have those doubts. "I trusted someone before and they violated my autonomy in every possible way. What's the chances it'll happen again? I'm at the mercy of the Eridians here in the bio-dome, but they'd never abuse that power dynamic... right?" Oooohhh it's the opposite of a sweet, funny au. It's Grace's nightmares come alive. Crucially, even if Grace WANTS to live longer, it would be such a manifestation of his trauma that I feel it would create a massive rift between him and Rocky. But also, it would force them to both recognise why this has happened: Rocky, unable to let go, and Grace, unable to trust.

a thing that some abled people will never understand or realize is that a chronically ill or disabled person doesn’t have to do anything to be in pain. I woke up today and it feels like my ribs are being crushed and it hurts to breathe or function. all I did was wake up. maybe I ate something last night, slept wrong, or maybe it’s because I’m fucking breathing. we don’t have to do anything to bring pain. you can drink all the electrolytes, take all your meds, try to get some exercise in, try to do all you can to manage your pain and it still won’t be good enough. chronic means CHRONIC. it’s there at all times to remind you that you’ll never be pain free. chronic illnesses are a 24/7 job that never gives you even a second where you can take a deep breath. the pain never leaves your side
