“What is this place?” Goofy wondered as he looked around.
“Beats me,” Sora answered, turning all around to take it in. “I’m just wondering how we got here.”
“Here” being someone’s front yard. The ship had taken them to a lot of places before, and sometimes they’d landed in some places by mistake. But they’d never fallen into a fenced yard. He could have sworn the lot was empty when he picked the spot…
Just then the door opened, and the three unintentional trespassers jumped at the sudden call and attention. They straightened easily enough, looking sheepish.
“Oh, no ma’am,” Sora waved off the invitation. “We didn’t mean to impose, we just-”
He blinked once, stunned, then leaned forward to take an eager sniff of the air. Sniff sniff sniff.
“Uh, Sora?” Goofy asked, watching his friend stalking up to the door, as if on auto pilot.
The weird part was that his eyes were closed. Yet his feet still kept moving, like they had a mind of their own. He was sniffing around her, trying to take in the smells wafting enticingly out of the house.
“That’s…!” He finally turned back around to face his friends, pointing eagerly toward the door. “That’s goya! Goya stir-fry!”
Donald and Goofy looked to each other in question, but mutually shrugged, clearly not understanding what he was saying.
“And-” he turned around again, taking another inquisitive sniff. “Beef… tomato… taco rice! And kumara!” His large fists went to his chin, and he started bouncing up and down excitedly. “And that’s pork! Hangi pork! You’re having a luau!” He concluded joyously.
Goofy leaned over to Donald in bafflement. “Didju get any of thayat?”
“Guys!” Sora whirled around and gestured to them imploringly. “We gotta stay for lunch! C’mon, we’re already here!”
“Uh…” Goofy itched his head as he considered it. “Well I guess she already invited us-”
“YES!” He cheered, already darting past her and through the door to head straight for the food. “I’m coming in!” He warned/announced.
“WAIYAIT, SORA!” Goofy called through his hands. “YOUR SHOES!”
Sora stumbled, windmilling on one foot as he had to stop himself from tripping over the elevated flooring. “Oh yeah,” he said as he got his balance back, kneeling down to unstrap his shoes. But he stopped, blinking as he now came face to face with a black, long-eared little critter looking at him with interest.
“Hey there, little guy.” he greeted. “What’s your name?”
She watches him dash through the doors and straight into Mokona with more than a little amusement. His manner reminds her so heavily of another boy, so eager and active. It makes her heart ache with a feeling she’s all too familiar with suppressing - so she does it again.
Before she can elaborate, the furball puffed out its chest, and proudly pointed at itself.
“ Mokona is Mokona! ” Said as if it were the most obvious and most impressive facts simultaneously. Yuko rolled her eyes and gave it a pat on the head.
“ Now is not the time, ” she reprimands, redirecting her vibrant gaze to the boy still kneeling next to them. “ When you’re done here, Mokona will guide you. Don’t take too long, or Watanuki will be absolutely livid the food went cold. ”
As she turned the corner, Yuko’s hostess smile slid from her lips. Things were going well, but they were still running dreadfully short on time. She just hoped he would forgive her for this interference in the world order. Though it was not as if he hadn’t used similarly heavy-handed guidance with the key-wielder himself...
“ YUKO!!!!!! ” An enraged screech reached her ears as the sorceress entered the dining room, a sweating and red-faced Watanuki sliding to a stop in front of her. He was still dressed in his apron and other kitchen wear, but now wielded a stirring spoon as if to stab her with it. She wouldn’t have put it past him.
“ Where is he? ” The taller boy strained taller, attempting to peer around her for their guest. When it was evident no one had accompanied her to the room, he whirled around and jabbed at her with the spoon. “ If you made me slave over all this,” he gestured violently to the feast laid out behind him, “ I will personally send you to the afterlife and have Doumeki make sure you NEVER come back!! ”
Chuckling, she laid a gentle hand on his shoulder and smiled.
“ Worry not, Watanuki. Our guests will be here soon. In fact, “ she paused, and turned to face the door once more. “ I believe they’re here now. ”
