You woke up at the same time you normally would, 6:30 AM. Unlike other days, the house was quiet. There wasn’t the sound of eggs in the kitchen, a pot of coffee, or Darry getting ready for work while humming to Elvis.

Instead of Darry’s normal routine, he was sleeping like a rock with a mountain of tissues next to you. You just assumed it was his winter allergies acting up as they normally would this time of year.

Smiling, you pulled the cover down slightly from his face and held his neck.

“Darry, hey,” you nudged him.

No response.

“Hey Dar, wake up baby. You’re gonna have to get ready for work soon.” you nudged him a little harder just for good measure.

No response.

You sighed and went to another idea. Your lips kissed up and down his neck and cheek in hopes he’d feel something. When you were done, however, your hand resting on his forehead noticed the hot feeling. Worst case scenario, you thought, Darry had a fever.

His eyes fluttered open moments after and closed again with a groan. He sat up and gave a weak smile and kissed your cheek. You smiled and got up from the bed to give him his work clothing for the day.

“Morning Darlin’,” he greeted and got up from his bed. While doing so in his lightheaded daze he almost tripped, but he grabbed the headboard in time before falling.

“Woah, you alright Dar?” You worriedly asked him.

He could never admit if anything was wrong. The last time he was sick he had almost passed out trying to roof a house.

“I’m fine, I need to go shower for wor-”you cut him off.

“I felt your temperature earlier. You might have a fever. I’m gonna go grab the thermometer.”

The words “fever” did nothing but give an instinctive groan of annoyance from Darry. Having a fever means you would make him stay home from work, and glory, the bills can’t pay themselves, can they?

“Y/N I’m fine really baby. Have you seen my tool belt anywhere? I really feel okay.”

Before he could object any further you came running back in with the thermometer. He rolled his eyes and you playfully rolled them back as you took his temperature.

“104. Guess you’re staying home with me today huh?” You teased him.

“Ha ha very funny but I’ve gotta go.” His voice was groggy and drowned out, definitely not fit to be going to work. Especially when he used physical strength.

“Nuh uh Darry.” You pulled him by the arm back into the bed. He looked at you with pleading eyes and you gave them back.

“Stay and cuddle with me?” you begged. “I’ll make your favorite..”
