hm my perspective on that is the same as on many things, @ napoleononthebellerophon put it into words best – yes it is natural yes it is still evil. i think we have access to a higher good through our rational mind but our material reality (finity, scarcity, the necessity of death, sentient beings that can't survive without murdering other sentient beings) doesn't allow for higher good to flourish in this physical world, but it is still higher and better and true. pain shouldn't exist, death shouldn't exist, illness shouldn't exist. they are all natural, but they are wrong, because they cause suffering. and maybe if we didn't have this deep intuitive feeling that Suffering Is Wrong that wouldn't bother us, but we do. so we create a world that is not natural, where the weak can survive through medicine or plugged into machines, and it goes against nature and it is right in every real sense of the word. if we didn't have this understanding of goodness and beauty and love then we never would have created art to try and lift the veil to get closer to it. but we did, because we are cursed (blessed?) with knowing and so we try to make our utterly subpar world more like that ideal one we can imagine and rationalize, where the fruit never rots, we cut gods out of stone and create machines that can allow life to live and none of this was written into the black soil that we were given. this sounds religious but it really isn't, it's something more abstract altogether, i think i believe in plato's anamnesis, we know that real goodness is possible and we try to reach it and so what does survival of the fittest mean in that, it is exactly the sad dark cave we're trying to escape. everyone must survive
