         A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF WOODSBORO    ,    devon  griffin  could  have  never  anticipated  that  her  sleepy    ,     surbaban  neighbourhood  would  become  host  to  the  infamous  murder  spree  that  spawned  numerous  copycat  killers    ,     a  blockbuster  movie  franchise   &   a  gale  weathers  book  deal .         -         one  year  older    ,     devon  wasn’t  particularly  close  with  those  involved    -    the victims  were  largely  unknown  to  her    ,     most  running  in  different  social  circles .       /         however    ,     her  connections  through  working  part - time  at  the  local  video  store  with  randy   &    her  younger  brother  zachary’s  acquaintanceship  with  billy   &   stu  were  enough  to  score  her  an  invite  to  stu’s  party  the fated  night  it  all  came  to  a  head .

                                          “     listen  sid      —      college  is  the  time  for  havin’  fun     ,     not  just  studyin’ .     ”                               erroneous  logic  in  abundance         /         attempt  to  entice  companion  will  be  made  .   fallacious  speech  is  a  catalyst  for  the  lift  of  singular  brow  t’ward  dark  hairline     ,     expectant  glint  soon  setting  within  oculars .          ——           beguiling  as  ever !         /         guise  so  charming     ,     it’s  no  wonder  he  is  a  master  of  deceit  .     languid  smile  soon  spreads  ‘cross  breadth  of  his  mien     ,     leftward  corner  of  his  lips  tugging  upward  in  lopsided  slope .          mickey  never  did  claim  to  be  a  good  influence  .      (     or  a  good  guy     ,     for  that  matter     )  .                                “     ‘sides     ,     the  zeta  tau’s  are  throwing  a  party  tonight   -   they  might  all  be  a  bunch  of  fuckin’  airheads     ,     but  they  sure  know  how  to  party .    you  in  ?     ”

                                          “     hold  it   —    ”                               ringing  bell  !   pealing  chime  of  the  door  will  signal  other’s  arrival     ,     something  which  devon  has  come  to  anticipate  like  clockwork  .      single  index  digit  is  hastily  raised     ,     silencing  sidney  ‘fore  she  even  has  an  opportunity  to  speak     ,     and  cherried  brims  slant     ,     amiable  smile  coming  to  bloom  ‘pon  redhead’s  mien     ,     lips  peeling  ‘part  just  enough  to  reveal  peek  at  pearly  whites  beneath  .        ——           wave  of  her  hand  !   she  will  gesture  t’ward  usual  corner  booth     ,     or  more  specifically     ,     the  steaming  mug  of  coffee  already  atop  the  table  .                               “     one  step  ahead  of  you  .     ”

                                        “     wait  up    ,   sugar  !     ”                               mellifluous  call  !    dulcet  tones  fall  from  coral - painted  tiers    ,   laced  with  sugary  southern  drawl  .    blonde  will  hasten  to  catch  up  to  the  other    ,    pretty  pink  heels  clicking  ‘gainst  stone  slabs    ,   and  arm  will  extend  out  to  drape  affectionately  ‘round  dalia’s  shoulders  the  moment  she  is  within  reach  .        —        lips  pulled  ‘part    ,     exhalation  expelled  is  largely  exaggerated      (   such  a  dramatic  !    she  surely  gets  it  from  her  mother   )   .                               “     lemme  tell  you    ,    i  have  been  lookin’  for  you  everywhere  !     ”  

                                          “     did  you  see  the  goo - goo  eyes  martha  dumptruck  was  making  at  ram  in  homeroom ?     ”                               cruel  laugh  !   mirthless  trill  accompanies  query    ,   pert  brims  peeling  ‘part  to  expel  harsh  lilt .       it’s  sad  really    ,   how  some  girls  don’t  realise  their  place  within  the  social  hierarchy  of  high  school  .    and  martha  dunnstock  ?    her  place  is  at  the  very  bottom  of  the  heap    ,   right  below  the  janitor  .           —         lean  in  t’ward  bathroom  mirror    ,   cap  will  be  popped  off  of  lipstick  poised  ‘twixt  slender  digits    (     peach  -  toned    ,   red  was  off  limits     )        ,     cosmetic  coming  to  swipe  ‘cross  puckered  tiers  with  expert  precision  .                               “     i  mean    ,   really    —      ”                               pause  to  smack  her  lips  !                                “     talk  about  tragic .     ”

                                          “     heather  would’ve  wanted  me  to  take  her  place  .   ”                             lilt  which  spills  from  ‘twixt  glossed  tiers  is  sapped  in  false - saccharinity    ,     underlying  edge  undeniable            /             sylph  form  tenses    ,    and  heather  will  bristle  slightly    ,     as  she  so  oft’  does  whenever  someone  questions  her  recent  rise  in  westerburg’s  social  hierarchy  .       what    ,     they’d  rather  follow  veronica  ?     as  if  !    and  heather  mac  was    ,     well    ,     heather  mac  .   a  follower    ,     not  a  leader  .   she  wouldn’t  last  a  day  .                             “    it’s  not  like  veronica  could  cut  it  .  ”                             venomous  tongue  !    lithe  digits  will  rise  to  readjust  red  scrunchie  she  has  taken  to  modelling  as  of  late     (    green  is  so  last  year  !  )         —         she’s  earned  this    ,     she  reminds  herself  .     heather  chandler’s  demise  had  signaled  a  change  for  westerburg    ,     the  food  chain  realigned  .         after  years  of  being  heather’s  lackey    ,     she  deserved  her  place  as  top  dog  .                              “     besides    ,     last  i  heard    ,     these  days  she's  too  busy  sucking  face  with  her  creepo  boytoy .     ”
