The specialist was checking up on troops and supplies in the aftermath of the explosion of the large grimm whale when the broadcast began. Surprised the general was doing this before sending out new orders Dima watched curiously.

 The mention of bombing mantle made his eyes shoot open in surprise. Images of the orphanage he grew up in, and the kids growing up in it now flashed in his mind. The surprise quickly turned to rage as he closed his scroll and stuffed it into his pocket. Up until then he had been questioning of the Generals orders and his overall mental state, but now there was no doubt about it.

Or specifically, about the gross incompetence of not just Ironwood, but now it appears the Atlas Navy as a whole. To a degree that is now infuriating, and transcends the suspension of disbelief.

The entire series we have been told that the Atlas Military is a force to be reckoned with especially because they are the only serious Kingdom Military force. Which was all well and good when we were in Mistral where they had little to no presence.

But right now, they need to show us all those things they told us the Atlas Military was. And believe me I dont think atlas should win, but we should see them give far better of a try than any other kingdom could.

I understand James had them holding until salem made a move, which is why ive been silent up until now. But the moment those spouts of grimm shot up, everything should have been on high goddamn alert. But all we see is one ship try to fire at the centipedes. And I understand if they wanted to say they avoided firing at the centipedes because of the risk of damaging the shield towers. (Which would and literally did happen anyways so fire goddamnit)

But when that shield fell and the whale moved in, the FLEET LITERALLY HOVERING ABOVE ATLAS should have opened up immediately. If not then, than at least when it landed. Because not only is it now stationary and practically impossible to hit given its size. IT LANDED IN THE OPEN FIELDS AWAY FROM ALL THE ACTUAL PEOPLE. SO THERE IS ZERO RISK OF CIVILIAN CASUALTIES.

Some of you may argue “But Ironwood hasnt ordered them too.”

Which shouldn’t matter. A military operating at that size has a set of rules and guidelines to refer to so that they can operate with some degree of independence in the moment. For when shit hits the fan and they dont have the time or ability to reach their commanding officer and ask for the go ahead. When it comes to real life militaries most of these rules are about what to do when you cant identify if what you are facing is friend or foe.

But these are the Grimm. THE FUCKING ETERNAL ENEMY OF MANKIND. 

“That giant whale shaped barrel of grimm, the enemy of humanity; is doing something that certainly isnt going to be good, we should stop it.” Should be the thought going through just about every single Officer in command of an Atlas Navy vessel just before they order their ships to open fire on it.

Now I have no doubt we will probably see some sort of atlas retaliation next week, but by this point it is far too late. That 45 seconds to a minute where is slowly lands and does nothing (Before opening its mouth to vomit grimm) would have been crucial start to the conflict that could end in an actual victory against Salem. Or at the very least could have made it seem very plausible for Atlas to win by strength alone. Driving up the tension only to have more and more grimm appear and overwhelm them.
