Headcanon / Oldschool Propaganda
Inspired by The Boys ( the soldier boy stuff! ) and FFVII Rebirth ( the movie posters in Junon )
i've written this up before but i have a feeling it was on my old blog and not passed along to this one, so please; allow me to EXCERCISE THE DEMON.
I adore the idea of the Shinra creating movies in the same vein as oldschool war propaganda movies. Think the classic 'war is good, our soldiers are brave' type of thing and I like to imagine this practice is something that started quite early on into the company aquiring it's on military / power & really peaked when Heidegger was a younger guy ( though not too young - I'm imagining like early 30s to early 40s ).
I love the idea of him having starred in these types of movies during this time - a bad actor ( because he isn't an actor ), but a villain with good press. I'm sure collectors still own those old movies - random older citizens who see Heidegger in charge of the military and guffaw like 'WELL, I REMEMBER WHEN HE WAS IN - THE SEARCH FOR POWER - A SHINRA STORY - MAN COULDN'T ACT FOR SHIT, BAHAHA-' etc.
Heidegger is generally pretty stum / embarrassed about these flicks but he'd not let you know as much - when bought up in interviews or candid conversations with the media, he laughs it off as just a necessasity of 'them days', but in reality, he sort of cringes thinking back. However, he'll be the first to tell you how handsome he was in those days.
I have always headcanoned his younger self as having looked like the actor Clint Walker ( I use him as a faceclaim, too, for this time! - the man was 6ft 6 and built like a tank, so it makes sense! )
Gif for reference purposes ( of course ) ~
Movies he had starred in during this time ( from the age of 31 - 42 ) -
The Search for Power - a Shinra Story ( an INTENSE drama about Shinra's rise to power, with Heidegger playing a supporting role to an actor portraying Shinra. He plays a loyal soldier who dies protecting his friend from evil anti-mako terrorists.
Love Bloomed on a Battlefield - A romantic war movie focusing on the love that forms between a Shinra soldier and a widowed woman of another Shinra soldier. A sort of forbidden affair forms between the two, but don't worry, it's okay because they both are loyal to Shinra lol.
Mako Wars 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 - ( Did not do 3 due to a contract dispute but came back for 4, 5, and 6 - when later asked why, he replied 'money.' ) In these movies, Heidegger plays a fierce soldier fighting for acquisation of Mako by the Shinra company. He is portrayed as an action hero type fighting for the good of the world - 'why do we fight? to ensure every man, woman and child can have access to electricity that works. And the TERRORISTS who want otherwise? - they're the true evil of this world'. So patriotic, so brave.
Suspect on the Run - A rare crime drama he had done as an attempt to branch out having caught the acting bug; it was a low budget flick made by an offshoot of the Shinra companies entertainment division that later went defunct. The film was actually liked by the ten or so people who saw it and developed a cult following. Heidegger plays a cop framed for the murder of a victim by a serial killer - he has to clear his name and find the real killer. The ending is a downer ending; it was made entirely in the Gongaga region, but made to look like Midgar - giving it an uncanny valley feeling.
High Seas - a wartime movie set at sea and one of Heidegger's last - he HATED filming this due to the reliance on filming by boats stationed between Junon and Costa Del Sol. He had severe sea-sickness during shooting and got into a fist fight with the director.
