Jim just wants it to be known that he fucking hates Uno. 

“Uno is a bullshit game and doesn’t deserve rights!” Jim points to Tony. “And neither do you!”

Tony laughs. “So you’re telling me that you didn’t like the plus four card, Platypus?”

“Kindly fuck off.”

The rest of the team cackles, loving the anger that was radiating off of Tony’s best friend, not used to seeing Jim lose his cool.

“Oh, Jim,” Carol said in a sing-songy voice.

Jim’s eyes widen at the card, “Sweetheart, don’t you fucking dare!”

Carol puts down a plus four.

Carol groans into the side of Rhodey’s neck. “I don’t wanna go back home.”

Rhodey chuckles and brushes his fingers through her blonde hair. “Me either,” he admits. 

The two of them had just finished up their two month long honeymoon in St. Lucia. Originally, they were only planning on staying a week, but Bucky had insisted they stay longer. Bucky had said to think of it as a wedding and as a thank you (for all the hard work that they have done for the Avengers) gift from him. The couple obviously didn’t refuse, but after spending so long in another country and not having to think about the business left the couple spoiled. 

However, after Sharon had delivered the news that Bucky’s new boyfriend had gotten injured from their rival mob, HYDRA, the two immediately were curious to who Bucky’s boyfriend was. During the ten years that Carol and Rhodey had been friends and worked for Bucky, Bucky had only dated one person. Though, it was immediately revealed that the person was merely a mole for HYDRA. After that, Bucky guarded his heart, only having meaningless flings here and there. 

“What do you think Bucky’s boyfriend is like?” he asks.

Carol shrugs. “I dunno, probably just another fling.”

“You think so?”

Carol looks in disbelief at her husband, “You don’t?” 

Rhodey shakes his head. “You didn’t hear Sharon over the phone. She sounded like she really cares for this guy. Hell, I swear I could hear Natasha sharpening her knives in the background.”

Carol purses her lips in thought. “Guess we just have to wait and see,” she sighs before resting her head on his shoulder.

Rhodey raises the back of Carol’s hand to kiss. “I guess so.”

“What if they don’t like me?” Tony nervously asks his boyfriend.

It’s been about a week since Tony came home with a gunshot wound to his side. Helen and Bruce had ordered he stay on bedrest till his side could heal up more—but to be perfectly honest, Bucky probably would put Tony on bedrest even if it was a flesh wound. 

At first, Tony didn’t mind being on bedrest. He enjoyed the surge of protectiveness that radiated off of the Avengers, well mostly Bucky. But now, Tony was starting to get a bit antsy. He missed work, missed seeing all the different dogs that people would bring in. But most of all, Tony missed being able to see his pseudo children—Harley, Peter, and Riri—and best friend, Janet. (It was hard not to tell them the truth about why he was taking leave—he had lied and said he was going on vacation to Italy.) 

And it didn’t help Tony’s anxiety that he was going to finally be meeting the last two members of the Avengers.

Bucky reaches over and gives Tony’s hand a comforting squeeze. “They’ll love you, babydoll. I just know it.” 

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

The couple heard a knock before Sharon entered. “The newlyweds are back, boss.”

Bucky nods his head at Sharon and dismisses her. He turns back and gives Tony a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry.”

Carol and Rhodey greeted their friends with a wave. They would’ve stopped and chatted with them, but they had direct orders to meet with Bucky and his boyfriend the moment they got back. 

The two were expecting it to be a quick meet and greet, and getting orders from Bucky. They definitely weren’t expecting to be greeted with an old friend.

“Tony?” Rhodey softly asked the moment he stepped into the room, his eyes showing pure disbelief, not trusting what his eyes were showing him.

Carol, on the other hand, had gasped and immediately padded over to where Tony was laying. She reached her hand out, wanting to touch the man, before quickly putting back down to her side. Just like her husband, Carol couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “Tony? Is that really you?” 

“Honey Bear? Care Bear?” Tony’s eyes were filled with tears. He hesitantly opened his arms for a hug. “Careful, though, I still hurt a bit.”

At the nicknames, Rhodey and Carol let out a small sob. Once Tony signaled for them to come in for a hug, they didn’t hesitate. 

Bucky, who stepped to the side during the whole interaction was confused as hell. He didn’t know that the three knew each other. Bucky had wanted to question what their history was, but considering the emotions that came from the three of them, he figured he could save his questions for later and let them reunite.

“Oh, c’mon Spangles! I promise you, this date will go well! I think you and Caroline will hit it off!” Tony tells Steve from across the island counter that’s in the common floor kitchen. He pulls out his StarkPhone and shows him a picture of a cute brunette that works in the R&D department at SI. 

“She’s cute,” Steve comments before turning back around to flip the set of pancakes. 

Tony’s eyes light up. “So, does that mean you’ll go?” his voice full of hope. 

Steve chuckles. “Tony, I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but I’m perfectly content with how my romantic life is now.” It wasn’t much of a hint, but Steve knew it was enough information for Tony to figure things out. 

“Wait, are you already dating someone?”

And there it is. “You could say that,” he replies nonchalantly. 

(The truth is, Steve and Jim have been married for a whole entire year now. While it’s been the best year of Steve’s life, the only downside to it was that none of the team, or anyone really knew. The only one who did was the drunken stranger that he and Jim managed to get as their witness for their wedding. 

He and Jim never meant to keep their relationship secret, in fact they weren’t even trying to hide it. Though, in the team’s defense, he and Jim never showed any public display of affection outside of their bedroom (they don’t even have wedding rings), but to be completely honest, they kind of preferred it that way. To them, it meant that there were no prying eyes, no teasing, and no tabloid stories that could be made of the two of them.) 

“Oh my God, you totally are!” Tony exclaims. He quickly runs out of the kitchen in search of his partners, “BUCKY! SAMMIE! THE LOVES OF MY LIFE! STEVE’S DATING SOMEONE!” 

Steve shakes his head in fond amusement at Tony’s antics.

“Do you think it’s time we should tell them?” Steve asks Jim later that night as the two of them cuddle in their bed.

“Tell who what?” 

“Ya know, tell the team that we’re married because I dunno about you sweetheart, but I’m kinda tired of being set up on dates.”

Jim snorts. “Oh, I know what you mean. Bucky, Sam, and Nat tried to set me up on a date with some SHIELD agent last night.”

“What did you tell them?” 

“That I had no interest in dating.” Jim leans over to give Steve a deep kiss. “I’m perfectly happy with you,” he says softly as he cups Steve’s cheek. “But I didn’t tell ‘em that part, though.”

A pink blush was painted on Steve’s face at his husband’s words. Though, it started to fade when Steve remembered his conversation with Tony this morning. He lets out a small wince. 

“What?” Jim confusedly asks. 

“I may have hinted that I was seeing someone to Tony this morning…”

“And so Bucky and Sam must know too,” Jim finishes. 

Steve nods, a sheepish smile on his face.

“Baby, it’s okay.” Jim reassures. “I think you’re right and that it might be time to tell them,” he sighs. “I am tired of getting set up on dates too.”

“Tomorrow?” Steve asks after a few seconds later.

It shames Jim to know that he didn’t notice it right away. It shames him to know that he didn’t notice the way Bucky would always linger just a little bit longer for their hugs or cuddles. It shames him to know that he never noticed the way Bucky would get this look on his face, this hesitant look that screams ‘No, please don’t let go yet.’ 

It makes Jim feel like a shitty boyfriend when he finally does notice it. The sad thing about it though, it was Tony who mentioned it to him.

“You know he wants you to keep holding on to him, right?” Tony tells him one night when they’re having their monthly Star Trek marathon. 

“What?” Jim replies, confusion clear in his voice. 

“Bucky,” Tony states simply, as if saying his name would get Jim to understand what he’s talking about.

“Okay, what about him?” 

Tony gives him a look. “Have you never noticed?”

“Notice what?” 

“Oh, you haven’t,” Tony says softly. 

“Tones, please explain what the fuck you’re talking about.”

Tony sighs and gets FRIDAY to pause the television screen. He turns to his best friend. “Bucky is touch starved,” he explains simply. 

“What? No, he’s not.” Jim denies. He would’ve noticed for sure that his boyfriend was a touch starved human being, right?

“Yes, he is.” Tony motions to FRIDAY, “Babygirl, can you please pull up the last time Honey Bear and Otter Pop hugged.” 

As soon as the command left Tony’s lips, a holoscreen was displayed in front of their faces. Jim watches as he reaches out to give his boyfriend a greeting hug, before pulling away quickly to get a snack from the fridge. He sees the dejected look that quickly appears on Bucky’s face, and how he opens his mouth as if to say something before quickly closing it. Jim watches as Bucky shakes his head and moves to sit down on the floor in front of Sam and Tony, who were snuggling. 

Jim watches as Tony reaches down to give Bucky’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze and a soft smile when Bucky turns to look up at him. 

The clip ends and Jim feels a sudden ache in his chest. 

Oh. 

Tony swipes away the holoscreen and looks pointedly at Jim. “Do you understand now?” he asks. 

“Yeah,” Jim breaths. “Yeah, I do.” He stands up from the couch and motions to the elevator. “I’m gonna g—”

Tony waves off the rest of his sentence, knowing full well where his best friend is planning to go. “Go hug your man.”

Jim bursts into the floor he shares with Bucky. He quickly searches for his boyfriend, finding him hidden in the corner of their room. 

“Bucky?” Jim calls out hesitantly. His face softens when he realizes that Bucky’s crying. “Oh, honey,” he coos. Jim goes to his knees, and wraps his arms around Bucky. He kisses Bucky’s temple before rocking the two them back and forth. 

Bucky continues to cry for another ten minutes. Once Jim hears the occasional sniffle, he pulls back and wipes away the remaining tears that linger on Bucky’s face with the pads of his thumbs. “Wanna talk about it?” he asks wondering what could have caused Bucky to cry. 

Bucky shakes his head and buries his face in Jim’s chest.

“Okay, that’s fine too,” Jim reassures before rubbing his boyfriend’s back up and down in a soothing motion. “Is there anything else I can do for you right now?”

Bucky hesitates for a moment before shyly asking, “Hold me, please?”

So, that only left Rhodey and Steve; which Rhodey wasn’t really upset about, considering that the two of them were dating and none of the others knew about it yet. 

(Despite the fact that Rhodey and Steve had been dating for almost a year, they enjoyed the privacy they had. They meant to tell the team a few months into their relationship, they really did, but things kept popping up—Avengers calls, paperwork that Fury or Maria insisted be done right away, and emergency meetings—before they words fell out. After about the tenth or fifteenth time (Rhodey and Steve lost track after the fifth try to be honest), they decided they would stop trying to tell them.) 

The two men were sitting on the couch as they played Mario Kart. Steve was currently in first place with Rhodey not that far behind. Rhodey smirked when saw that he had gotten a blue shell. 

“Oh, Steve,” he teased.

Steve’s eyes widen when he saw what Rhodey had. “Babe, don’t you fucking dar—How rude!” he exclaimed as the blue shell hit him. 

“Get wrecked dweeb,” Rhodey cackled. 

“I thought you loved me!” 

Rhodey snorts at Steve’s words. “Relationships don’t exist when it comes to Mario Kart, honey.” 

“RELATIONSHIP?! HONEY?!” Tony screamed as he and Bucky entered the communal floor. 

Steve and Rhodey jumped at the screech. They looked at Tony and Bucky—who both looked surprised (and confused in Bucky’s case)—before looking at each other and then back to Tony and Bucky. 

“Uhh,” Steve said intelligently. 

“Surprise,” Rhodey hesitantly said, giving Tony a sheepish grin.
