The first plane of Syrian refugees headed for Canada touched down in the country late Thursday, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was on hand to welcome the arrivals. Just a few hundred had landed, but Canada is on track to accept many, many more.

Tumblr friends, I’m part of a group sponsoring a Syrian family to Toronto - if you’d like the link to contribute a wee bit of cash, that would be wonderful, just message me. We’re hoping to be able to meet one of those planes soon. The cash is to support them for their first year in Canada - rent, food, bus fare to ESL classes, daycare for the little girls, one of whom was born in a refugee camp. We’re working on raising the money quickly so we can get the ball rolling. We can’t issue a tax receipt but the accounts etc. Are all legit.

And we can take contributions from the US and elsewhere, at least all the countries we’ve tried so far seem to work. Just message me somehow for the link if you’re interested.

Or if you’re in Canada and want some info on organizing to sponsor a family yourself, also message me. I know thismuch (holds up thumb and forefinger very close together) but happy to share what I do know in case it’s more than you know so far. (There’s a lot to know.)
