Thor hadnât slept. Not truly, any rest was fitful and unsatisfying. But how could he sleep again? What would he dream next? To escape his motherâs worried looks, when her attention needed to be focused, Thor had retreated to his room once more. He splashed cool water from the tap on his face, didnât immediately hear the knocking over the sound of rushing water. Or his own thoughts. But Rhodeyâs voice rang through the suite clearly. âMy friend,â Thor called in return, stepping out to meet him. âI uh⌠I did not hear you come in, forgive me.â He scrubbed a hand over his face, eyes still heavy with weariness, and skin still damp. âPlease, sit with me,â he said, nodding towards the sofa and chairs before setting down in one himself. âJane and I will be here a while. So we can both be closer,â he explained, as though he needed to. Rhodey was not an unintelligent man, and his loyalty was beyond compare. Thor gave him a weary smile. âI suppose given the circumstances, I can forgive you for missing it. Turned out a little⌠unpleasant.â
He could see the lack of sleep in Thorâs eyes. He was sure that the worry was plaguing him enough to keep him awake and he didnât blame him considering the condition that Loki was in on top of the fact that Jane had been put at risk. He waved a hand when he apologized for not hearing him. âI didnât want to be too loud. It appears you havenât gotten much rest and I didnât want to startle you.â He didnât hesitate to walk into the room after the other as he took a seat in one of the chairs but his eyes remained focused on Thor. âThat makes perfect sense. I think itâs wise to stay close in case of anything.â However he worried for Jane considering the information that Tony and him had discussed. Rhodey would make sure extra safety would be taken for her because she was just as dear a friend as he was. âI heard. I do apologize for not being here then. Iâm here now however. As long as needed to make sure everyone is safe. Iâve already put any assignments on hold for the time being.âÂ
