Wanderland Platform

Realized under the scholarship program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland – Culture in the network.

The film consists of materials recorded in the 90s. by Marie Delahousse – a Frenchwoman who at that time worked at the Institute of Latin Languages of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. She observed the activities of the African Center existing in Poznań at the time, as well as the lives of people associated with it. The narrative includes interviews with Polish women who were in relationships with Africans. The structure of the film captures two perspectives – Poznań in the 90s and the present time and their ways of looking at the phenomenon of broadly interpersonal political relationships, but also emotionally confronted with the general social and economic situation of Poznań in the 90s.

Film is edited by Patrycja Plich and become a starting point for new footages in reference to migrations and transcultural communities recording by her in Marseille and Senegal.

De nouvelles trajectoires se dessinent avec le travail de Patrycja Plich qui, lors d’une courte résidence à Emprise, réalise une nouvelle topographie de lieux imaginés possibles, inspirés de ses dessins exposés durant l’exposition d’ouverture Emprise lors de l’Acte I. Sur un mur de 3m x 4m, les lignes du paysage s’étirent, laissant place à de nouvelles données. Réel ou imaginaire, rien n’est sûr.

A ses côtés, Alice Hamon entre en dialogue avec Patrycja dans une expérience nouvelle. Dessinant habituellement à l’extérieur et produisant des oeuvres éphémères contextuellles, l’artiste investit le mur principal de la galerie. Des lignes se croisent, des images apparaissent, l’oeil se perd et se pose, l’esprit vagabonde sur des trajectoires proposées.

Fluidité et solidité se rencontrent dans les oeuvres de Lorraine Thomas qui présente de nouvelles toiles trapézoïdales, peinture et objet à la fois. Revenant au thème de la mer qui lui est cher; l’artiste cherche l’horizontal et la stabilité dans une approche diagramatique de la peinture, présentant une mer contenue, ‘ une mer solide qui tangue de l’intérieur ’.

„Wędrująca ziemia” (Wanderland) jest długofalowym cyklem działań mapujących przejawy istnienia transkulturowych społeczności w odmiennych kontekstach geograficznych. Podejmowane przeze mnie wątki mają swój początek w Centrum Afrykańskim, istniejącym w Poznaniu w latach 90.

Podczas całego procesu śledzę wpływ działalności Centrum na możliwość budowania społeczeństwa integrującego – powstającego ponad kulturowo określonymi granicami.

„Wędrująca ziemia” (Wanderland) to seria działań nawiązujących do idei „swobodnego błądzenia”, czyli odkrywania i doznawania rzeczywistości ponad systemowo ustanowionymi granicami. Porusza zagadnienie miejsc granicznych, miejsc pomiędzy miejscami (terytoria sporne) i miejsc między znaczeniami (transkulturowe społeczności).

Wanderland platform is a long-term cycle of activities that widely map out the existence of transcultural communities in different geopolitical contexts. The threads taken up in here have their origin in the history of the African Center in Poznan (Poland) in the 1990s. The project follows the impact of the African Center’s activities on the possibility of building an inclusive society that creates a cross-border connections.

The whole process is based on the idea of free wandering – discovering and experiencing reality beyond systemically established boundaries. It’s an issue of border places – places between places (disputed territories) and places between meanings (transcultural communities). The project reflects on question how in this context present multi-layered society can emerge. The social space undergoes constant translation. Here it is referred to an issue of landmark and its double meaning, both in the geopolitical and metaphorical sense – understood as a turning point. This is a metaphor for building new concepts defining a complex drifting society – systemically entangled, but also offering bottom-up alternatives.
