i hope people realise that alicent and daeron don't only parallel each other in childhood but also in alicents adulthood.
everything alicent experienced as a child is still being carried inside her, trauma doesn't just stop affecting you when you grow up.
every time you see alicent instilling fear into aegon, remember otto preaching about how rhaenyra was going to put alicents children to the sword. when you see alicent crowning aegon, remember that little girl who didn't want to teach aegon to steal his sisters birthright was being told by otto that the kingdom wants him to be king. remember how alicent thought rhaenyra would make a fine queen but otto pushed alicent into a corner by sending people to find and crown aegon first, forcing her to step in herself so otto wouldn't advise him to kill rhaenyra.
it is the exact same is ormund pressuring daeron to be king and to kill that man. alicent is acting as an extension of ottos will, his voice is still in the back of her head. he groomed her and impressed the wrong ideals upon her and alicent is acting from a result of that manipulation and an instinct to gain ottos approval and love, something she has always had to earn instead of just be given, just like daeron.
alicent IS kind and had the right intentions like daeron but otto didn't let her remain that way.
Its kinda crazy how much Rhaenyra needs Alicent to think she's good. Like "you're the last remaining connection to the girl I once was and if you tell me you can still see her in me then maybe this will be okay, maybe things aren't too far gone and I can recover from this." Sure man whatever!!!
And the saddest truth is that in a different world, Rhaneyra would have loved Daeron, her baby brother who looks just like her treasured childhood friend. She would not have cared that he doesn't have the traditional Targaryen looks, and he wouldn't have been lonely if he were at Dragonstone. He would have cousins and nephews to grow alongside; he would have been happy.

so people can in fact see that teenage daeron is being abused and manipulated by an older relative into a position he never wanted but have for some reason been unable to extend the same understanding and sympathy to alicent who went through exactly the same thing at his age……right.
rhaenyra really walked into alicents chambers in the middle of the night just to give her a promise ring, touch her hand, stare at her fingers, admire her collarbones and then left. and that visit could've waited until morning but she couldn't wait to see her. she could've sent anyone to give alicent that ring, she's busy enough, but she didn't. rhaenyra targaryen i know what you are
i wonder if rhaenyra ever looks upon helaena and sees in her the daughter she never got to have. she asks alicent if it pained her to send away daeron right after she looked at helaena. i think its linked somehow, with the understanding of the pain of missing a child you never got to be around
Olivia: "knowing how ardent helaena is about keeping the child and raising the child, it makes it all the more important that alicent tries to get them out of there"
Phia: "she's not willing to sacrifice another child"
i love to see how much alicent is trying to do right by helaena, how much she cares for her, how much she wants to give her the life she never had and how much she is risking for her sake. rhaenyra is going to lose her mind if they try to escape again, she's already growing paranoid enough and she doesn't need a betrayal from someone she has given so much trust to, but i'll also get why alicent and helaena are doing it and they deserve a chance to be happy why does the world keep tearing those chances away 💔

Crazy how alicent thinks her most maternal act was sending her child away when she stepped in front of a dragon for aegon, was the only person to stand up for aemond when he lost an eye, and committed literal treason to try and get her daughter and granddaughter out of the city. Girly has such a warped sense of self-worth and has never been given any agency to the point where she thinks her only worthy action is in inaction
The difference in how much skin is covered by her nightgowns. How she dressed when Viserys was alive versus when he has died. Alicent reclaiming her autonomy is so important to me.
there are two kinds of people in the hightower line. those who must be protected at all costs (alicent, gwayne, daeron) and those that are everything wrong with this world (otto, ormund)
"viserys would've wished it" "the king did not wish for the murder of his daughter" both of them using viserys' name as an excuse to show kindness to the other is very dear to me but i need them to face their feelings and own up to the fact they're in love

wrt last reblog also the beautiful parallel between alicent and daeron pleading with their fathers to be merciful while they insist that bloodshed is a necessary evil: ‘reluctance to murder is a not a weakness!’ and ‘is mercy not a kingly virtue?’ alicent’s sad smile to gwayne when he mentions daeron’s kindness, she cannot possibly see how he might have inherited that from her :(((
