Erik barked out a laugh. "I have spent enough time around Charles Xavier to know that ignorance is occasionally a blessing." He shook his head, a look of mock horror crossing his face.
He gave her a knowing look. "I have no desire whatsoever to hear what goes on inside his head. I suspect ninety percent of it consists of bad ideas, poor jokes, and food." He stopped for beat. "...Though not necessarily in that order."
His expression softened as she spoke of her dreams. He listened without interruption.
"That is not such a strange dream." His voice was quiet. "It is the dream I have carried for most of my life." A faint smile touched his lips. "A place where children are simply... children. Not weapons. Not symbols. Not feared for what they may become."
He looked at her thoughtfully. "And I hope you see it one day." His gaze lingered just a little longer. "I hope you fill it with a family of your own, if that is what your heart desires."
A mischievous glint returned to his eyes. "Though preferably not for several years yet." He pointed a finger at her with exaggerated sternness. "I have only just learned about the Vision fellow. I should like the opportunity to interrogate him thoroughly before I begin contemplating the idea of being a Grandfather."
The image alone made him huff a laugh. "I am much to young for that, Wanda."
When she kissed his cheek, Erik froze for the briefest moment. It had been so many years since one of his children had done something so simple. His hand came to rest lightly against the side of her head.
"You needn't thank me." His thumb brushed gently through a strand of her hair. He smiled as he watched her tuck the photograph safely inside her jacket, close to her heart.
Then came the negotiations. Erik narrowed his eyes as though considering an impossible diplomatic treaty. "Chocolate..." He stroked his chin thoughtfully. "A difficult demand."
Another beat. "I believe, after careful consideration, that it can be arranged."
Erik lifted a hand, and his keys slid effortlessly across the room into his waiting palm. At the same moment, the front door swung open on silent hinges. With a small, satisfied smile, he gestured for Wanda to go first before following her outside.
