Guts is more of a damsel in distress than Casca in this arc. Schierke will assist her like she did with Guts but Casca will save herself. Casca wasn't training just to wait on Guts to save her after years of leading an army. Casca is a warrior and she was never the docile type.

Yeah, I'd say it's the worst aspect of the fandom, the misogyny. After Casca got raped, Miura let us know Casca is STILL the Hawks' commander; no, she's not just there to make Guts sad, but to oppose Griffith by her own discretion. Her life was a tragedy, but the fandom removes all the complexity in her writing and the shift in her goals as the series progresses. Casca is one of the most interesting characters in the series, and her hostility in Falconia shows that she is not just going to roll over and accept Griffith's tyranny.
Berserk shows the exchange of control between Guts and Casca. They both have PTSD, but Casca is much more motivated than Guts is in this arc, and it's now Casca's turn to be strong.
On Casca’s femininity
A woman with scars littered across her body. A woman who had to take up the sword as a child. A woman who is seen as lesser than by her enemies and nothing more than a comrade by her allies.
That is how Casca views herself. And why wouldn’t she? No one ever gave her any reason to look at herself as anything but, even if that’s not necessarily what she wished for.
At the end of the day, I think what Casca wanted was to feel beautiful along with the feeling of being a good warrior. To feel lovely, cherished in a way that doesn’t mean be looked at with pity. She probably resigned herself to never truly feeling any such feelings. Not from Griffith, surely. Maybe not from anyone.
Then, there was Guts.
For the first time in her life, Casca was viewed as beautiful with her scars. Lovely with her sword. She was wanted and yearned for in a way that she probably never thought possible for herself. He soothes her insecurities the first time they’re together, telling her she’s plenty woman and to not feel ashamed of the story her body holds. And isn’t that a gorgeous thing to tell young girls (especially women of color)?
Casca is a feminine character and she ALWAYS has been. Wearing makeup on the battlefield, enjoying compliments on her classy outfits and openly expressing her emotions and sensitivity. She can be both a girlboss and feminine at the same time.

The people who say "Casca is not a character she's fridged for the sake of the plot" never engage with the VOLUME OF CHAPTERS of HER mindscape nor any of her character after her awakening. Casca experienced shell shock, which is more common in men. They become non verbal and child like and it last for years. The recovery process is gradual. Some people never recover. Casca is NOT that case. And its irritating when we have seen this covered in the manga but she's being stripped of her humanity and only described as tropes to delegitimize her character, her very human traits and personality.
Casca is no longer mentally regressed but still has lingering PTSD, but why wouldn't she? So does Guts and no one says his character is destroyed or ruined. After going to Hell and getting betrayed by the guy she risked her life to save, the scale of damage that does to a person mental health can not be over looked. HER ENTIRE GRASP ON REALITY SHATTERED.
Then fandom is reducing her to her regression in a dismissive manner while not interacting with her uprising arc. Casca contributed far too much as the hawks commander, tactically planing Griffith's rescue too then say "she's not a character" only based on the trauma she received after the eclipse.
How often do we see Ricket and all of his point of view? Or Erika? Why don't we see every reaction of theirs? Or Struggle? Why are they characters and Casca isn't? Why is Casca stripped of her character, but everyone else in the story maintains theirs? How is it possible for Casca to rationalize her current life for SEVERAL chapters just to be called a pl*t dev*ce. Yet every other character is spared from this.
The fandom is obviously overlooking Casca's development but blaming the writing they themselves ignored. "Where is Casca's point of view?" we have OVER A FULL VOLUME of just her perspective and we are still getting more. She's been back since 2018 and we have seen into her mind and emotions, 7 years have passed and we are still hearing "where's her perspective???? What about Casca's perspective???" After ALL this time is not because you want to see it but you just don't care.
People who say Casca should’ve died with the rest of the crew aren’t just wrong, they’re misogynistic. If Casca deserved to die, then so did Guts. Why should he live but not Casca? Nobody never explains why???
I'll tell you why, because it's easier to dismiss her depth and character arc. Guts was raped at the age of 9 and was tormented for years. But nobody advocates for Guts to be "mercy killed" for it. Guts is not only his trauma, but they purposefully reduce Casca down to that one role then pat themselves on the back as if it's some feminist take.
Someone told me they don't care that Casca is going through character development because she was regressed for a very long time. They actually like that she played a minimal role in the story and it comes from male centeredness. To them, Guts healing journey is only worth analyzing, while Casca's is an inconvenience.
Hi I saw your comments about Casca and Go girl I can’t believe there are people disliking Casca. I wanna call it the “mainstream badass hero syndrome “ or “successful instagram influencer twisting reality syndrome” because all modern big screen shows or movies have badass female and male characters (all played by the Rock) that go trough literally anything and so much trauma and come out victorious with dramatic music playing in the background, or like all the instagram infuluencers that have a sob story that is “i went trough domestic violence “ and came out victorious, bought a house started my business that want to sell you a course and you don’t even know if they are lying, but people get exposed to all that daily and start to think that’s NORMAL when it’s not…while irl people aren’t like that…women and men go trough bad stuff and get traumatized, depressed, go insane, loose their jobs and homes, suffer, sometimes there isn’t happy endings or victorious ost music, sometimes you keep dragging yourself trough hell without being sure wtf will happen like Casca or Gutts, or a supposed noble seeming leader and friend like Griffith actually being not so noble. And people don’t like seeing that because it makes them uncomfortable. Same as why lots of people dislike the series Shamaless and say “I hate X character of Shamless because they had potential to grow or succeed, but didn’t “ like yeah my dude that’s real life … sometimes you grow backwards , anyway sorry for the rant, I just really don’t like people disliking Casca (of females like her idk Sansa from GOT) because I can see myself being Casca or Sansa or similar characters in such situations

Yes. People don't approach Berserk as a tragedy with severely flawed characters living with ptsd, but a manga with characters who SHOULD be level headed and has John M. Gottman interpersonal skills ready to respond with temperance and maturity in most situations.
I was born and raised in the ghetto and the common attitude for some people around is low levels of emotional regulation, high aggression and they can be verbally/emotionally/physically abusive. Miura's characterizations of orphan teen soldiers is the STRONGEST part of his writing. These character traits are not something the reader is supposed to approve of but we ARE supposed to recognize WAR is the reason for their behavior and empathize with them for making small progress.
They are enduring the hardship of constant battle around them all while going through puberty. Surviving was thier main priority and because of this they where emotionally underdeveloped.
How we learned to care about these characters is their IMPERFECT and messy attempts too improve with their morality guiding them causing them to confront their unstable emotions during their dangerous and hostile lives. Casca and Guts didn't perfectly change or handle conflict but they saw communication and self reflection as nessissarcy which makes them respectable and righteous. Berserk is about mental illness and coping with it during warfare.
We as readers are supposed to care about their character development because it's harder to grow during times of strife and conflicts than in peace. It's admirable for their efforts in a almost hopeless situation. Which is realistically taking years because people don't change over night but their desire to be better people and have better relationships shouldn't be ignored because that's a very weak analysis of the series.
Guts spending 98% of his time trying to protect Casca post eclipse while fighting demons, possession and mental illness shouldn't be lost on any reader. And Casca re-claiming her life while fighting ptsd after getting significantly more mature, patient, appreciating and reconciling her complex relationships should be paid attention too.

at the end of the day i'm too much of a Casca fan to ever like Griffith again. His now lack of empathy doesn't mean "he did nothing wrong." The slug apostle rejected the minuplation of the God hand (AS A DEMON) with most of his body destroyed and STILL choose his loved one over the sacrifice.
THIS is what Griffith took from me.

The berserk fandom is sleeping that we are about too see Casca have incredible character growth. She worked hard to see Griffth obtain his kingdom but she will never stand for his method of achieving it. She agreed to support him as a soldier but she never consented to be a demon sacrifice. She will choose her own part as she's always done since she was a child.

Guts is diametrically opposed to the beast of darkness. Saying "he's just like Griffith he assaulted casca" is leaving out the details and giving NONE. Guts has no power over the beast of darkness so much so that he has to use a powerful talisman to bind and chain the Beast in order to protect Casca. Both times Gut's assaulted Casca he was in the process of rescuing her then lost consciousness but the pretext is never brought up.
Guts commentary to the words of the beast is of audible REBUKE AND CONTEMPT. "GO AWAY" "STOP IT"
Guts commentary may be ignored by readers but it would NOT be ignored by Casca. She would remember all those nights of Guts yelling at the beast to leave her alone.
Guts consistent objection and rebellion to the beast when it mocks him for protecting his loved ones SHOULD RAISE SOME EYEBROWS especially when it's connected to the brand of sacrifice. He's litterally is using POWERFUL MAGIC to restrain the beast from taking over. It's not *just* Guts let's actually start being honest.
Its not difficult for the hundred man slayer to take out anyone if that was his "desires". But he makes every effort to keep it away from his friends. Those scenes don't show regret but loss of autonomy which Casca will recognize.
Casca mentally regressing after watching:
1.All her close friends die brutally
2.Being tortured and raped for a extended amount time
3.Getting betrayed by GRIFFITH, the man who gave her hope
Is the most realistic thing to happen in berserk. She had the hardest life in the series but don't overlook her character to ignore what she DID accomplish.
What's misogynistic and ableist is the fandom reducing Casca down to Guts trauma and a rape victim. She was depicted as the General who SAVED Griffith and a genuine friend to FARNESE WHILE metally ressgressed. The friendship she made with Farnese(and Guts' party) inspired the individuals to change for the better. No she wasn't kept around just to make "Guts sad" but to add harmony and balance to the group which she also benefits from. Casca grew along the way not separately.
