My Kids & Kaizen ..
Simple way to explain Kaizen to Kids
One of the things that always annoy a working Dad , is not spending enough time (with enough focus) with his kids…
I found some ways to do so.. not much “WOW” ..but just simple ones for me that improved what we are doing as a family together..
Started to Take them to “Any Business Trips” - will discuss this later - , Started to make my Daughter attend my sessions/lectures since she was 8 .. now she knows what is Supply Chain , Kaizen and FIFO …
Anyway , to jump to the topic here.. this is how I explain Kaizen for my Kids…
So we are sitting at home and the “Lights“ went off …. What we should do..
My Daughter will get candle from the kitchen .. ( this is a setup , as father already planned it in advance as a contingency plan, created a Budget for it , it was there in its place ).
We have to Light it up , which is process and processing time … now she moves to the living room to help the family …
WATCH OUT!!! The split of the candle will destroy the carpet , Mum Send “Signal” or “Shout” ( this is pure Visual Control from Leadership )
Then Your Tricky brother , will go and get “ Jam Jar Cover “ … this is called innovation with “Minimal Setup cost”
By the trial and error , my son fails to make it stand there … so I Just hold the candle and will Spill some of the candle wax to stick the candle on the cover.
This is called Re-application , because I saw my dad doing it before and maybe he learned this from my grandfather…
Then once we are set … My wife will put it facing the “Mirror” so we can benefit from the reflections… Using the current resources is always a talent
THOSE LAST STEPS : are pure “KAIZEN”s
Next time the light will be off, you will just get the candle and will do this all in one step before getting out of the kitchen OR the candle already will be set as “one device”
Anyway , this was my small way to make my kids know a complex word in early age….
