i think often abt how sad the ending of the secret history is bc you want to believe with them that they are different, that they will escape the system and ordinary life and they will remain these sort of incredible ppl but the very end of the book rlly shows young ppl who've been manipulated by their professor, broken by what they've done and what's happened to them and how this feeling of "exceptionality" often doesn't apply or exercise itself outside of uni like in the end they're swallowed up by the system and go back to living the life that's been expected of them........
