welcome to wade wilson's bedtime stories! (he's the one getting read the bedtime stories.) this is basically my self-indulgent extra comment section for fics i like as an incentive for me to read more fics. and also for writing/reblogging thoughts/drabbles occasionally idk i'll probably just end up doing whatever i want. there's absolutely no consistent schedule to these posts btw
asks are open for anything, especially to send in less well-known fics to recommend!! but please do not ask me to personally review/recommend your fics.
disclaimers:
there will be no criticism or ratings in my reviews, because i don't believe these are warranted on any type of fanwork unless explicitly asked for. everything will be positive, and as objective and honest as possible
no tags or tropes will be excluded here—this means that there may be potentially triggering content, but they will all be tagged appropriately. don't like, don't read
these are my opinions! i rec fics i personally like, and just because i haven't recced a fic doesn't mean it's bad. also since there'll be many recs, don't expect pickiness and only state of the art professional writing here lmaoo. and back to point 1

Vanessa's turning ninety, and Wade has a crisis about it. Logan's there for him.
author's tags: major character death, established relationship, wade and vanessa are best friends forever, but wade is immortal and vanessa isn't, angst, hurt/comfort, bittersweet ending

review (light spoilers):
with all due respect this fic makes me want to throw myself off a cliff <3 if y'all have been following me long enough you know that i'm absolutely obsessed with wade and vanessa and that i also love explorations of grief. so put those two together and you'll get me bashing my head against a wall and then staring at the ceiling for 5 hours.
i've had this in my bookmarks to rec for three months but i've thought about it multiple times since because yeah it's THAT kind of fic. they absolutely nailed vanessa's character (which to me will always be impressive) and wade's too, and logan's and this entire fic is just like. a reminiscing. and it makes every single part of it so bittersweet even when nothing is happening. just the exploration of the fact that their conversations still feel the same but everything else has changed with time is just SOOOOOO 🧍♂️
it is also brilliant to have logan be the one to talk wade through it because he went through the same thing centuries ago. and it's not pleasant but at least they can handle it together. (or the other way around? they have each other but it still sucks. depends on how you want to look at it i guess)
okay yeah anyway haha impeccable devastating writing everyone go read this fic i'm gonna fall over
favourite lines (also light spoilers):
“Hey, have I told you you're the hottest girl I've ever seen? Sex on legs, seriously, goddamn, run away with me.” (this is a sad line i promise)
"You have infinite second chances, sure, but only for yourself. Eventually the people you thought were gonna be there forever start dropping like flies, and you don't love the same anymore."
He thinks he knew, in that perennial moment when she curled her pinky around his, that he'd love her forever. His girl. His obligatory straight love interest for a few years, then his best friend forever.
I miss your recs. I understand time is sooooo little especially for authors, but I've found such precious gems through you, and other recs have only confirmed my own favorites 🫂
AAAAH THANK YOUUU i'm so glad 🥹🫶 yeah i haven't really had much time to read more fics recently BUT i do have some already bookmarked to rec... and i have slightly more free time now (i dropped one of my courses so that's a load off my back LMAO) soooo
dead dogs don't bite by gossippool (1.7k, 1/1 chapter)
There's a dead dog on his doorstep.

Wade can’t catch a break.
Looking into a crystal ball and seeing something amazing that could never possibly come true is bad enough, isn’t it? Well, it gets much worse when all of a sudden Logan starts to respond to Wade’s hopeless flirting by flirting back.
explicit rating /5: ❗️❗️❗️
author's tags: getting together, humour, flirting, anal sex
my tags: getting together, humour, light angst, smut, happy ending
review (light spoilers):
we are SO BACK! so from the get-go this is just an immaculately written story. the dialogue is witty and the jokes are effortlessly funny (and also startling? somehow? which is exactly what deadpool humour is like), on top of an already fun concept. wade's voice comes through SO well in this this shit had me giggling every 5 lines. it is a fun concept that is also angsty because best of both worlds! and it's just so delicious that the whole wade-being-insecure-that-logan-doesn't-want-him is exacerbated into wade-being-insecure-because-he-thinks-logan-HATES-him. like fuck yeah escalate that situation THANK YOU!
i read this twice (i read all my recced fics twice because i have to write the goddamn reviews) and it was just as good the second time. and perchance it will also be just as good a third time. this fic will really have you feel everything wade is feeling from the gobsmacked-ness to his silly little thoughts to the subtle heartbreaks (also felt myself getting dumber a little because wade is stupid in this /affectionate), bc likeeee why did it feel like logan was flirting with ME [tucks hair behind my ear]. and on that note, this fic plays so well into the flirtatious and confident side of logan that we see in the x-men movies but not so much in dp&w (obviously), and it is delightful. this fic is simply fantastic
favourite lines (also light spoilers):
“No, it wasn’t bad,” Wade says with a fake smile, shaking his head like an introverted puppet who’s forced to socialize with all the other puppets at a puppet Christmas party and hates it.
“Twenty years from now?” (this makes no sense without context and so to get context you should read the fic)
fuck it 1.5k words of logan exposition that's part of the first chapter of an unpublished fic i won't be done with anytime soon. this backstory is partially inspired by the origin comic. tw mentions of violence, death, child death, self-harm etc. etc.
-----
The first time Logan killed an innocent, he was ten years old. He could name many moments in his life that felt monumental—'canon events', or whatever shit Wade calls it—but if he really had to name a point of no return for him, it would be then. All the way back then. He wonders about fate, often. If it was possible that things could ever be different. Then he remembers. His past comes back to him in flashes still, even after two hundred years. His ribbed, rough bones splintering the skin between his knuckles for the first time, the deafening quiet of the night broken by his howls and his mother’s screams, the gunshot before that, as if all the world had been contained in that one room. Her body underneath his, wounds gaping—maybe her throat, maybe her chest, or her stomach—and guzzling dark, dark wine. His grandfather’s mouth moving, the spit on his tongue. The words made no sound—he couldn’t remember what his grandfather had said, nor what he'd sounded like. But he'd known. So he'd run.
He'd had a decent childhood, before it all. Decent enough that he hadn't thought of life anywhere else, at least, or maybe that spoke of something that was the opposite of decency. Regardless, he'd felt… clean. He hadn't known about his claws then. How could he? His own mutant brother had been cast away, erased from the family legacy, with no explanation as to why. But now his claws resided in him like an itch under his skin, dead weight when he moved. He felt their presence in his fingertips even when they were retracted, and now when he thought back to the before, before he'd had the claws, he thought that maybe he'd felt them then too. He just hadn't known it.
It had been an accident, killing the mother he'd longed to see, the one he'd missed even when she was alive. But it being an accident changed nothing.
He'd been filled with a quiet sort of rage since then, the kind that simmered low in his blood, unnoticable on some days but intrinsically a part of him nonetheless. His anger was its own organ that kept his body running unprompted, and if he let himself accept that he was angry, let himself feel it, it took everything in him to not claw his way through the anger. To not claw at himself until he reached bone, to hear the unnatural, inhuman screech of metal against metal.
He'd released it in increments, chopping wood and lugging wheelbarrows and running with the wolves, and beating up the occasional man who deserved it. That was in the early stages, when every exhale released puffs of anger into the cold air.
On bad days—the bad days were the normal days—he wondered if he had been born defective. Not just in his claws, but born to be full of fear and hatred, to not know where to put any of it. Born to reap the consequences of his brother's failures in the form of neglect and frigid silences, of the bond of family only through blood and nothing more. In unleashing himself, he'd become his brother, maybe. A mantle of generational disappointment passed on for him to bear.
On worse days when he hated himself to the point of self-mutilation, he recognised that it may have been inevitable. A buildup of pressured anger in centuries-long microdoses that eventually forced its way through his fissures and burst out of him, destroying everything in its path.
He sits in this bar now, indistinguishable from all the others, unwanted again, always running. He bears the looks and the whispers like a wooden cross, dragging the weight of it on his back down Gethsemane streets—sacrificing himself for what the people feel it right give him, what he knows he deserves: contempt. The bartender pours him another drink with what looks like anger, but also pity. Pity is kinder than anything he’s been dealt for the past few years.
He holds the shot glass like a communion cup, imagines that in it is his mother’s blood. When he drinks it, he thinks forgive me. Forgive me. Forgive me of my sins. But he knows he won’t be forgiven. He doesn’t know anymore if he even wants to be. Because his sins have been building up for two hundred years, clawing at each other to get to the insurmountable top. He is sin. Every inch of his body, from the roots of his hair to the skin under his fingernails, has been stained with blood that he has washed off over and over again but still feels. If he’s forgiven, if all his sins are taken away, he doesn’t know if there would be anything left of him but metal and a hardened heart.
It may absolve him of some guilt, he thinks, if he could say he remembers them all—all the people he’s killed, all the ways he killed them. He doesn’t. They hadn’t been important enough to him then, besides the life that they held in them that he starved to take away. And when his claws pierced through their flesh and muscle and bone, he drank up the lifelessness in their eyes like morphine. The high kept him alive, and rotted his insides. It quenched his thirst, but it didn't make him feel good. Then again, when does addiction ever?
He can't even remember the X-Men. When he had, when they'd crossed his thoughts in passing when they were alive, he could see them clear as day in his mind, vivid in saturation and detail. Now when he tries thinking of them, all he sees is questions written in blood.
He does remember one of them, vaguely, of those he's killed. All of his past is a blur now, memories seen through a fogged-up window or in a yellowing photo album. But this one he sees with slightly more clarity: a girl with dark skin and darker hair, a carbon copy of her mother. He'd killed them both twice over. It was the first time he killed a child.
And he remembers her because he’d liked it when he killed her. The tabooness of it, the special sanctity of a child's life that he had forced away, so easily. Something that people hardly dare to do. Look, he remembers yelling, to dead bricks and corpses in a dead-end alley. I'll fucking show you. They’d thought he couldn’t go lower than he already had. They'd thought they couldn't hate him more. They had no idea what he was capable of.
He remembers her screams, bloodcurdling but still unmistakably a child’s, and then her eternal silence. He remembers her mother's begging, his own mother's begging. He remembers that he had not felt an ounce of guilt in that moment, nor remorse, nor any of the gravity of her life.
Now whenever he drinks, he drinks enough to kill himself a little, in remembrance of her.
Not that that's the only reason. Because underneath it all, despite it all, through it all, he is nothing but a selfish bastard. And it's fucked up, he knows it is, but when he stopped killing people it had felt like withdrawal. More potent than any withdrawal he could get from drugs like a normal person. It was a withdrawal he's stuck with because he's more tired of kiling people than he is thirsty to sate his urge. Not the urge to kill—just the thought of it now makes him sick, clogs his throat with blood—but the urge to take all his despair and anger out on something. Everything. And oh, he's tried. Not even killing the world and filling oceans with blood was enough.
So he drinks, because nothing can satiate that urge, and the alcohol makes him forget that it even exists. You can't think about anything when you're blackout drunk. You can't see how other people look at you when you're passed out. But even in unconsciousness his body remains wound tight and tense, and he wakes up sore through every muscle.
He doesn’t believe in God, but he’s lived long enough to know enough. And he knows that God wouldn’t differentiate between the good and bad people he's killed. Blood is blood is blood. The blood of the innocent mixes with the blood of the evil, turning the lake a plagued, undrinkable scarlet all the same.
And this isn't a children's book, a bedtime story, a movie where everything gets wrapped up in a nice little bow and they all live happily ever after. He fucking wishes.
All of it remains in the back of his mind like a prowler, laying dormant and ready to pounce, when Wade drags him out of that bar; when he decides to save that asshole's timeline; when Laura tells him he's the wrong guy until he isn't; when Wade says he's the best Wolverine. He looks around him, and all the world is still black and white and bleeding red.
*whispers* sorry, i don't mean to be rude at all but the link on Dangling Like a Thread takes you to Sleepytime Tea for some reason and i thought i'd tell u ♡ sending u lots of love n kisses btw!! love ur blog (^▽^)/★♪☆
THIS IS SO SICK THANK U FOR TELLING ME... i copied and pasted the title from the fic and somehow the link didn't transfer over even though the username link did. sick and twisted actually
Wade loses his voice one night during a poorly planned villain takedown. This is a story about losing a part of yourself, what it means to adapt, and how other people can help you get it back.
i am going to put my head into an oven and scream so loud. the way that. the. when the. oh my god
this fic is in the style of writing that just tells it like it is, and boy is it effective. as the premise suggests, wade is silent for most of this fic but my god can you still feel everything he's feeling even though it's from logan's pov, because every line that describes him just hits you directly. and the thing about wade not speaking, obviously, is that it forces you to visualise the action a lot more and i simply loved it
it's heavy at points but also so creative and fun, and i just love when people put characters in unique situations and have them adapt and also have every aspect of them explored—wade acts like he does in the good ways (continuing to be annoying as fuck) and in the self-destructive ways (harming himself to try and get his voice to work again). it's all just done so well.
also just . the entire ending. all of it. i would quote so many parts of it because it's so good and most of my favourite lines of the fic are from there but i don't want to spoil anything so y'all will just have to read it i guess. also RUSSELL. FUCK. sorry i just love when wade's kids make an appearance
favourite lines (also light spoilers):
He wishes the staring felt more foreign, but the topography of Wade’s face has become deeply familiar.
“See? You’re fine.” // Wade’s expression never changes.

Sleepytime Tea (Wade Talks in His Sleep) by dinosaurstars (T)
3636 words, 1/1 chapter
“I–I–” For once, Wade can’t think of anything to say. Shit. Logan’s eyes are barely visible in the near darkness, but Wade can feel his gaze nonetheless. It isn’t the piercing glare he’s usually graced with. Fuck. As the moment stretches on, there’s nothing to fill the silence but Wade’s breaths, the soft pants of wounded prey staring up at its soon-to-be killer. But Logan seems perfectly content to wait, and it’s only then that Wade realizes that Logan’s holding his hand. It makes his insides feel like they’re twisting into balloon animals in a not-fun way, and Wade thinks that six adamantium claws directly to the chest would be easier to take. His lungs already feel like they’re full of blood. Strapped down. Can’t move. Can’t breathe. His skin feels like it’s turning inside out. He can see his reflection in the glass of the hyperbaric chamber, can hear himself scream while he watches himself turn into a monster. Francis. Francis.
“I was a mermaid in H20: Just Add Water and the condensation from my water bottle made me transform during my class trip to the beach.” The words tumble from Wade’s mouth like a waterfall. Finally.

review (light spoilers):
good morninggg it's been a long time. i have a whole list of recs to get to but this is one i read last night, because i woke up this morning still thinking of a line from this fic. it wasn't even really a line related to the general premise but god it blew me away. anyway!
this is one of those fics where one of them has a nightmare and is comforted. not a new plot by any means but beautifully written and characterised nonetheless! one of my favourite things about this fic is how much character is snuck into it just through a couple of words thrown into some lines, that just tell you so much about wade and logan in a way you could very easily miss. the author is also great at writing logan's instinctive (protective, animalistic) thoughts and wade's stream of consciousness dialogue. it just makes for such a good balance between angsty and entertaining
this isn't even an established relationship or getting together but that isn't always necessary for their dynamic to shine through, and this fic proves it. it's so tender and they find such comfort and relatability in each other that you are basically implicitly handed the certainty that it will all be ok.
favourite lines (also light spoilers):
He opens his mouth to do just that, but a trembling overtakes his body and shakes the words from him.
He casts his eyes to the heavens, expecting the dull ache when it makes him think of Kurt. (!!!!!!!!!! this fucking line oh my god)
Wade is a forever horny Omega who doesn't have a proper heat cycle, but does have a severe case of ADHD-induced insomnia.
Logan is an Alpha who sleeps like the dead.
You can see where this is going, right?
Rating: E
Warnings: somno and associated consent issues
It starts with Wade trying to wake Logan - he really, really tries!! He's on the cusp of a heat, like he always is, trapped on that edge, whole body alight with sensitivity but unable to find solace alone. Toys won't work. His fingers definitely won't.
He needs help. He needs Alpha. He needs Logan.
But Logan is fucking unconscious.
Empty whiskey bottles clink and roll along the side of the bed as Wade shuffles towards Logan, whimpering. Big guy drunk himself into a stupor, on top of his usual nighttime log-impersonation. But he smells... he smells so good.
Wade feels himself slick, a hot wet pulse between his legs. He whines a little louder, letting a bit of bratty neediness fill his voice:
"Logan - "
But there's nothing. Logan slumbers on. He's sprawled on his back, saturating the small room in his musky Alpha funk.
But Wade's words - Wade's hands, wandering over the thick bulge of his chest muscles, the surprising softness of his body hair - must do something. Because as he presses himself against Logan, rubbing his thighs together and hissing at the hot, wet slide, he notices a familiar tent forming in the covers, over Logan's crotch.
And. Well. Wade's never been one to turn down an opportunity.
Don't look at him like that. He isn't going to do anything reprehensible. Not while Logan's unconscious.
But he's aching inside, wet and needy. Plus, Logan might shove him away if he wakes up properly (Wade is too much, every partner he's ever had before has said so (except Ness, because she's an angel, but even then Wade knows she thought it, sometimes)). Logan might tell him to go fuck himself on his fingers in the bathroom, alone. Wade couldn't bear that.
He doesn't need much. Just one little orgasm, while soaking in Logan's scent...
He won't put Logan's dick inside him. Even like this, heat-crazed and weak with need, Wade knows that's not right. But if he just... ground on him? A little?
That would be okay, right?
As soon as the thought flashes through his mind, it's all he can think about. He tucks his hand between his legs, swivelling his hips hard against it, but it's not the same - it's not the same.
Frustrated, he tucks up to Logan's side. The heat radiating from Logan's skin only makes Wade's fever-need burn brighter, but when he buries his face in Logan's neck and inhales the dirty Alpha scent that emanates from his glands (animal musk and leather), he finds a tiny sliver of relief.
"Ah - "
But wouldn't it be so much better, if he was closer?
Wade bites his lip. He burrows his sweating forehead against Logan's arm, muttering a half-hearted curse.
Then, gingerly, he swings himself onto Logan's lap.
He works himself there, for a while. Slow, controlled movements - not the desperate humping his body craves. Having Logan's thick body between his spread legs certainly helps - Wade has soaked through Logan's vest, and feels the mess smear against Logan's abdomen as he moves.
He's so fucking wet. He's creamed the thick treasure trail leading down beneath Logan's sleep pants, making the hairs lie in thick, wet whorls. Wade can see his own slick glistening on Logan's skin, can smell his sickly, cancer-tainted scent - and it feels so fucking right. His head tips back and his hips work of their own accord, rocking his little cocklet against Logan's soft abs.
He doesn't mean to scoot over Logan's dick. It just happens.
Wade whines. He's a deluge of sweat and desparation. The font between his legs is bottomless, his body producing slick in one hot swell after the next, more pulsing out as his innards convulse.
He needs a dick inside him. Logan's dick. Alpha's dick. Needs to be held and kissed and fucked and claimed -
...But Logan's asleep. And they already fucked five times today because of Wade's stupid, oversensitive, pathetically hungry body.
Sure, he's never satisfied. But Logan is, if his bone-deep slumber is any indication.
Wade couldn't bear it, if he was pushed away.
Equally, he can't let this go any further. What if Logan doesn't want him? Wade can't hurt him like that - he won't.
Still, he needs more. Needs sex like he needs air; needs Logan's thick muscle, Logan's heavy smell; oh, Logan...
In the end, he keeps the covers between them - and Logan's pants. Better that way, to avoid temptation.
Then, trilling soft under his breath - an unthinking sound of Omega in distress - he shuffles back. Gasping as Logan's erection bumps his crack. Arching, letting it drag underneath, scrape across his swollen, throbbing hole.
Wade hurts like a wound. His hole is the one cut that will never heal, forever raw and empty.
But - oh. Oh, it feels like heaven, like dying for real, to let the helmet of Logan's cock, blunted by the layers between them, stroke between his lips.
Wade bites through his lip in his bid to stay silent, blood streaking his chin. His groan of pleasure echoes through the room anyway.
He doesn't care. He can't. There's nothing left in the world but this: Logan's body beneath him, his chest rising and falling under Wade's braced, shaky hands. Logan's noises, as their situation must infiltrate his dreams: little huffs of interest, grunts low in the back of his throat. Logan's cock, hidden beneath the bedding, teasing over the plush entrance to Wade's body, catching and tugging on the sensitized scars...
Wade doesn't hear his own sounds. He knows, distantly, that he's making them - hears himself whisper "Think Fiege will insist on this scene being cut, sorry kids" - but his consciousness is crushed out of his head by his all-consuming arousal.
He holds himself over Logan, melty-warm and dripping, muscles a-tremble. His desperation not to hurt his Alpha wars with his yearning to be filled.
Slide the covers back. Slip on down. It would be so easy...
No.
Mastering himself is the hardest thing Wade's ever done. But he has to. He has to. There's no question here. Even with the heat sucking on the corners of his mind; even half-lost to his insatiable instincts - he knows.
Logan has been tied down and tortured before, his bones coated with liquid-hot metal, his body torn apart in every way suffered by Wade. Wade won't do jack shit to him, without his consent.
Won't do any more to him, at least.
Guilt closes its teeth on Wade's neck. Stupid fucking heat. Stupid fucking him. Yeah, he's too much. He knows it as well as anyone else - and he won't subject Logan to him like that, in the worst imaginable way.
He moves up, desolate, away from the lovely broad jut of Logan's cock. Almost sobbing with the loss.
He just doesn't get very far.
Big hands grasp his waist. A growl rumbles from the body beneath him, low and husky with sleep. Claws prick warningly at his sides, and that growl forms a shape that sounds a little like 'what the fuck?' and a lot like 'Wade?.
Wade has time to think 'oh shit, busted' before Logan's eyes shoot open.
He glares at Wade, straddling him, caught red-handed (or... red-hole'd? red-pussy'd? Both are pretty accurate right now).
Wade tenses, trembling, his body still governed by his almost-heat. Yes, Alpha, he wants to drool. Punish me. Use me. Make me yours.
But deep down, he's ready for Logan to scowl, shake his head, and shove him away.
So, you can imagine how his mind whites out when, instead, Logan shimmies the covers off his hips and drags Wade down.
"Oh - oh - oh, fuck, Peanut - "
Logan's cock has pronged up from the loose elastic of his sleeping pants. Wade can't see it, though he knows its shape, its texture, as intimately as his own.
It drags through the slick jelly coating his cunt, setting every nerve alight. Then realigns and sinks in. It's effortless, given how wet and open Wade is, but Wade's so sensitive it still feels like a delicious stretch.
Logan's scent flowers up around him, like when the sun hits the forest floor. Not laced with annoyance - or, well, no more than usual - but hunger. Desire. Want.
"The fuck're you doing?" growls Logan, in his ear. "Trying to start without me?"
Wade is too out of it to lie. He gurgles as Logan's cockhead thumps his cervix, in as deep as it'll go. Blood-tinged drool slithers from the corner of his lips. "Th-thought you wouldn't want - thought I was too much - we already - "
Logan's scoff takes all those insecurities and strangles them. "Fuckin' tease; you were all I could dream of." He bucks up, impatient, before Wade can cajole his leg muscles out of their pleasure-filled, putty like state.
Wade chokes.
"Ah -"
"Yeah," says Logan, and does it again.
"Ah - "
"Can't believe you almost let me miss out on this. Fuck's sake. Next time, wake me up, you fucking idiot."
But his fingers are surprisingly gentle where they curl into Wade's waist, and for once, Wade lets himself believe that he's wanted.

Wade has always been an expert at fooling himself, and it seems like the emotional depth of his relationship with Logan is another one of such cases. Logan disagrees.

review (light spoilers):
so my friend and i were discussing this post and i happened to be reading this fic at the same time which fit perfectly almost. if you know me you know i'm a sucker for explorations of wade being selfless to the point of neglecting himself and it's something that's explored a lot in the comics too, so this was DELICIOUS. this is the third part in a series and although it's not vital to read the other two they are just as good and set the basic premise (getting together) for this fic.
i've always been a fan of the miscommunication/misunderstandings trope and i also think it is hard to do believably without it being frustrating. then again, almost anything is possible with wade because the way his mind works is batshit insane, but either way this fic pulls it off really well.
i've read fics from other fandoms with this premise before, where a character tries changing themselves to get people to stay, but it hits so hard with wade. and one thing i particularly like about this fic is that besides the Main Problem (logan not having explicitly told wade about his feelings for him) logan doesn't actually do anything wrong. he doesn't flirt with others, he doesn't do anything to suggest he might not love wade. and yet the mind can do wondrous things to fuck with you and that is just so wade. there's just so many good choices made in this fic here characterisation-wise, and i love how logan's thoughts and dialogues were executed so much
and i'm not going to say anything more specific because it's more spoilerish than i would like but god fucking damn i love the bit about the coffee table. i could write an entirely separate post about it actually if you just gave me a second
favourite lines:
Regardless, the kiss—or lack thereof—isn’t what makes him reach said conclusion, okay? He’s insane, but not in that particular way. It just makes him rethink their entire relationship
Except, he doesn’t know what he can do to become someone that can be loved.
“Walk me through it, yeah, bub?” he says, trying his best to keep his frustration out of his voice. “Why do I not like you?”
Thinking about how Logan is more open about his emotions than Wade despite what people perceive, and how Wade slowly learns to open up and confront his own emotions because of Logan.
Prompted by this amazing thread. Shoutout to @ramblingautisticman and @desperatelyneedcoffee for inspiring me to write this.
---
Most people expect Logan to be the more closed-off one. To hide his emotions behind a mask and keep them to himself.
But that's Wade's role.
Logan is honest about his emotions—when he's angry, he'll growl and thrash and let people know. When he's happy, he'll bark out a laugh and grin and let his eyes wrinkle at the edges. When he's sad, he'll cry and scream and drown himself in alcohol.
He may not be phased by smaller things, but he's honest about his feelings. (Something Wade could never do.)
Wade, on the other hand, isn't. He exaggerates trivial feelings, obvious situational ones—he'll cower in fear at a "scary enemy or pretend to be pissed over a minor inconvenience. He makes his outward, shallow emotions so loud that it turns everyone's attention away from what he's feeling inside.
(Because if people know how he feels inside, they'll see him and hate him. It's easier to be hated when you can chalk it up to "understandable" reasons, to being annoying or loud or inappropriate. It isn't easy when they hate you. When they look at you, bare and vulnerable and open, and hate who you are at your core.)
Wade has spent his entire life hiding his emotions. Even from himself.
He shoves them so deep down that they become a slightly bitter taste in the back of his throat until it all becomes too much and he violently throws them up.
Wade is like a glass bottle: he can steadily hold all his emotions inside, pretending to be OK, until the glass shatters and explodes and the shards dig everywhere and he's left to pick up the pieces.
But Logan isn't like that. He lets himself feel. He lets others see how he feels.
Even from the first moment they met, he let Wade know how he felt. How he fucked everything up. How he wasn't the hero he was looking for. How he was battling with so much grief and rage that he'd reached a point of complete apathy.
(It made Wade envious. To be able to just say it and move on.)
Logan was the first person Wade met to be so blatantly honest. To wear his emotions on his sleeve and act on them and still be strong and keep fighting.
(...Could he still be considered strong, if he did the same?)
When Wade was vulnerable, it felt like he was choking—the words tumbling out without his permission and leaving a mess behind. Even with the people he loved, he couldn't ever bring himself to fully trust them even if he knew he should. Even if he wanted to. (Even if he tried to.)
(He still remembers sitting across the kitchen table from Vanessa. She held his hand tightly, as if she was afraid he would slip away. Was slipping away. She was urging him to let her in. To tell her why he hadn't been himself. To open up so they could share the burden.
But he just... couldn't. How do you tell someone who loves you, who you turned back time to save that nothing was helping? That no matter how hard he tried to focus on Vanessa and just live a "normal" life that it all felt wrong? That he felt an itch under his skin to do more more more and nothing was "more" enough.
That he felt like he was just wearing his skin. Like it wasn't his, not since Francis twisted him into a monster he didn't want to become. That he still remembered her look of surprise and the reluctant way she cradled his face when she first saw it.
It wasn't her fault. He knew that. It was an adjustment.
...But why didn't anyone understand? The gnawing loneliness, the self-hatred, the feeling of everything being nothing and too much all at once.
He hated himself.)
But Logan let his emotions course through his veins like second nature. Wade watched as emotions twisted across his face like it was a form of art.
And, for the first time, he felt comfortable opening up. He let the words spill from his mouth, except instead of feeling the trail of acid burning through his throat it felt like relief. He finally met someone who understood him, who had gone through the same suffering. He saw his loneliness reflected in Logan's eyes and finally, finally, felt he could reach out without dragging someone down. (They were both already at rock bottom, anyway. The only place to go from here was up.)
And so he told Logan about Vanessa. About the family he wanted to save. About how, yes, he vaguely cared about the world, but none of this was to save the world. (It was for just nine people.)
And Logan... didn't judge him. He saw understanding—a tired, but real kind—reflected in his eyes. He didn't make fun of him for his selfish motivations. Didn't snarl in disgust that he could never be a hero because of them. (He saw him and didn't recoil.)
And there, sitting across the table from each other in that shitty building they'd escaped to, Wade finally felt seen. Understood. (Ironic, isn't it? To have to go to the void to open up about the void inside of himself. Wade would write a poem about it if he knew how to.)
He felt that same kinship as they continued their journey. Even through the insults, the exasperation, the annoyance, Wade could tell none of it was serious. Because Logan never really told him to fuck off. To stop.
If Logan didn't like him being touchy, he'd shove him off. (He didn't.) If Logan didn't like him asking questions and rambling about himself, he'd actually try to get him to shut up instead of just grumbling. (He didn't.) If Logan really didn't want to be here, he'd leave. (He didn't.)
Logan's visceral type of emotional honesty allowed Wade to let himself be vulnerable. Because if Logan hated him, he wouldn't be here. If Logan didn't want to hear it, he wouldn't tilt his head and listen and ask questions.
(It made Wade feel safe to express himself for the first time since he'd been strapped to that shitty operation table and torn apart until all that remained was a body not quite his own.)
Things were going good.
They were.
(Wade desperately hoped they'd stay that way.)
But then Logan pulled over the car, real and raw fury in his eyes. He yelled at Wade, his voice trembling with the intensity of it.
He picked apart everything Wade had told him. Threw it back in his face.
And oh. Oh.
Logan was honest. He was true to himself and his emotions.
And so, Wade thought quietly as the tired continued, he really meant it. It felt worse than when Logan had stabbed him.
(It felt like he was back on that operating table, small and weak and pathetic but still trying to keep smiling. To keep cracking jokes and being annoyed. Because, if he didn't, he'd break. If he didn't keep the shards of his personality clutched so tightly to his chest that they dug into his hands, nothing would be left of him.)
Logan dissected him. Using everything Wade told him. (Using the ammunition he'd provided.)
(Was Logan really looking at him with understanding, back then? Or was it disgust? The images blurred together in Wade's mind, distorting his memory.)
Told him how he was worthless. That the Avengers and X-men were right to reject him. (Ouch.) That it was his fault he couldn't salvage his relationship with Vanessa. (He'd tried. He'd tried so hard.)
That Logan saw him for what he was: a pathetic, attention-seeking parasite who clung to others instead of facing his own problems.
It really was God's greatest joke that he couldn't die.
Wade spiraled.
(Was he wrong this whole time? Did Logan really, truly hate him? He had to, if he's looking at Wade like that.)
If even Logan (the only person who could begin to understand his suffering) couldn't accept him, who could?
He felt like the ground was crumbling underneath him and he was falling and floating at the same time. He felt like he was an observer, looking in on the outside, even as his emotions crashed over him like a tsunami.
But he couldn't let himself break down. Wouldn't let himself be vulnerable. Not here. Not now.
So, he slid the mask back on and responded in the only way he knew how to.
"I'm going to fight you now."
(Even when they'd collapsed, bloody and weak and exhausted, the words kept ringing in his head. They'd let out their physical frustrations, maybe, but the words still clung to him like a blanket. There was still a sinking feeling in his gut. Dread twisting his stomach at the thought of being open.)
(The feeling never really went away.)
---
They started living together, in the aftermath.
Wade had called after Logan as he was about to leave and awkwardly asked him if he'd like to come home with him. Just long enough to find a place to stay, or even just for dinner.
(Logan couldn't refuse. Not with the sense of wrongness filling him as the distance between him and Wade grew with each step. When he heard Wade's voice, it felt like hope. It felt like coming home.)
One night turned into two, turned into a week, turned into a month until Logan had his own side of the dresser and nobody bothered to ask if he was leaving. (Thinking of leaving made Logan vaguely nauseous, now. It felt like ripping away the foundation of the home he'd painstakingly started to build here.)
Logan still had baggage. Still had days where all he wanted to do was grab a beer and stare blankly at the wall, thinking of all he'd done and all he'd lost.
But it was easier. Wade would walk into the living room, plop down next to him, and begin talking his ear off about whatever happened that day. He'd sling an arm around his shoulder, flip on the TV, and keep talking.
(Logan would lean against him, slightly. Would focus on Wade until his warmth and touch and voice drowned out his thoughts.)
(It worked better than alcohol ever had.)
Logan tried to let Wade know that he cared about him. That he appreciated it. Appreciated him.
(That Wade's presence was what made everything worth it. Made him finally feel like he was able to tread water without drowning.)
He'd cook Wade meals. (And pay attention to what he liked and disliked, making sure to cook things he knew Wade would comfortably eat.) He'd lean into his touch. Listen when he talked. Answer any questions he asked.
And so, when Logan came out from the shower one night and saw Wade curled up on the couch, staring blankly at the black screen of the TV, he approached him.
Wade had a vacant, empty look in his eyes. The kind that Logan recognized, but hadn't seen on him before.
It made him worried. He'd never seen Wade like this. (It was unsettling. To see Wade, who was so vibrant and expressive, look so bleak.)
"Is something bothering you, bub?" he asked, settling down next to Wade on the couch.
Wade finally seemed to register his presence, eyes flicking over to where he sat.
"Oh, peanut! I was wondering when you'd get out of the shower. Was it nice and steamy? I'd love to join you next time," Wade wriggled his eyebrows (or what was left of them) suggestively.
It was like a switch had flipped. Wade went from blank, like a doll with its strings cut, to animated and excited in a second. His eyes were sparkling again and he grinned at Logan like nothing was wrong.
(It was... uncomfortable. Did Wade not trust him? Was Wade hiding something from him?)
Logan wanted to question him, but Wade kept chattering and he could never really get a word in edgewise. (A part of him wondered if it was intentional.)
Maybe he was seeing things. Maybe Wade was just having a bad day. Logan tried to rationalize it, even as a pit formed in his stomach. A feeling of deep wrongness.
Except it kept happening.
Wade would get that same, desolate look in his eyes (always when he was alone, away from everyone) and Logan would walk in on him. Logan would try to see if something was wrong, but Wade would interject before he could.
(Logan knew his expression was concerned. Knew Wade could tell he was worried, that he cared about him. So why didn't Wade let him in?)
(Wade always listened, patiently, when Logan talked about his problems. It was one of the few times he'd go quiet, only occasionally asking questions and making extra commentary. He'd look at him with a grim understanding. Not pity, not sympathy, but empathy. Free of judgment. It was the first time Logan felt like his emotions were actually being received by someone, cradled and held and protected so that they didn't burn him out.)
Until, finally, one day, Logan snapped.
"What the fuck is up with you?" he snarled, and that didn't come out the way he intended but he was so frustrated by Wade refusing to just let him in.
"What do you mean, Wolvie? I'm—"
"Shut up. You're not fine. I've been alive for two hundred fucking years, I know by now when someone's lying, Wade," Logan interrupted before he could continue his usual antics.
"Look, I'm just having a bad day, alright? You know how it is. I'll be up and running after I take a nap, don't worry about little old me!" Wade's voice took on a faux-cheerful tone.
"This isn't just a bad day, bub. It's been happening a lot. You get this look in your eye, like you're not really there, and just stare at the wall." Logan stared at Wade with concern evident on his face. "It's worrying."
Wade snorts. "You don't have to worry about me of all people."
Logan furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean? 'You of all people?' Of course, I'd be worried about you, dumbass. I care about you and if you're hurting, I want to know why."
And Logan was so painfully honest. It was so clear in his eyes, in his expression, in his body language that he cared about Wade. Deeply.
It made Wade snap.
"Just shut up! Stop fucking talking. I don't want to hear it." Wade wished he had hair right now so he could fucking tear it out. He'd take any kind of physical pain just to distract himself from Logan, worried and open and trying to pry him open.
"Wade, what are you—you know you can tell him about anything, right?" Logan tried to regulate his breathing, to keep his tone calm. To not show the panic he was feeling. (It was obvious anyway.)
"What, so you can throw that back at me, too?"
What? What was Wade—
"So you can tell me I'm a fucking joke? That every superhero team was right to turn me down? That I couldn't even manage to keep a relationship with a stripper?"
Oh. Oh fuck. That was—
"That I should just fucking kill myself, but of course, it's God's best joke that I can't die, so now my pathetic existence is on you?"
He couldn't possibly think Logan meant that, right? Couldn't have been thinking about that this whole time—
"I don't want to burden your royal highness with my stupid problems," Wade practically snarled, "so stay the fuck out of it."
He slammed the door and left.
And Logan was left alone.
Logan wanted to run after him, to grab him and tell him that he didn't mean it. He was pissed off and spewing whatever came to his mind in the moment to hurt Wade. (And he'd achieved that goal, hadn't he?) He felt betrayed and responded in the only way he knew—by lashing out. (But that wasn't an excuse, not really. Not to take everything Wade had trusted him with and twist it. To betray his trust in such a personal, visceral way.)
(Logan knew that Wade meant well. That he was just scrambling to save his world and thought of the only solution that would get Logan to help. That when he made an "educated wish" he'd still try to see it out, had still asked the TVA after everything. But he was so fucking angry and so fucking tired and just wanted any excuse to lay down and die.)
Did Logan really have the right to, though?
Wade had listened to him. Helped him. Even after what Logan had said and done, he'd still cared. (And wasn't that a sobering thought. That this whole time, Wade thought that was Logan's opinion of him. That he still cared about Logan despite having his voice ringing in his ears, tormenting him.)
(It made Logan angry to think that Wade was used to it. To setting aside how people treated him and not expecting anything in return for his kindness. To loving and giving without receiving. It made him want to murder the people who set the bar so low. It made him want to rip out his own tongue.)
(It made him realize, yet again, that Wade was a better man than he'd ever be.)
...And Logan had fucked up. Immensely.
Had given Wade hope that he could finally open up to someone who came from a similar background and understood his suffering. All to tear it away in one glorious, horrible, mistake.
Logan had no right to fix things. To ask for forgiveness. (From Wade. From anyone.)
But what was the alternative? Letting Wade think he hated him? Leaving?
Logan would rather die than go back to living completely isolated from the world. He couldn't go back to waking up every day and drowning his sorrows with alcohol. Letting memories flash behind his eyes as he replayed everything he fucked up and obsessed over what he could've done differently.
(Because, without Wade, he would still be there. At rock bottom. Without a place to belong or any reason to get up in the morning. A samurai without a master. A drifter without purpose. A stray without a home.)
The thought of leaving behind the only thing he cared about anymore made him panic. He felt nauseous, like he wanted to throw up yesterday's dinner and his own heart alongside it.
He knew it was selfish and pathetic, but he couldn't let go. Couldn't handle losing the only thing that made living worth it, after everything.
(Of course, when he finally found someone who was like him, who felt the same loneliness, who couldn't die, he had to go and fuck up. What is Logan good for if not ruining anything good in his life?)
Logan knew he was selfish. And pathetic. And stupid.
(He felt his mouth move around the words. Spit venom at Wade, who was completely, utterly silent. He heard them, vaguely, but they didn't register. He was running on pure rage and adrenaline.)
(Why did he take until now to notice?)
He knew that.
But he didn't think it was this bad. That he'd end up ruining the only good thing to come out of his miserable existence.
He thought, at least, that even if he'd fucked up everything else, he could be good with Wade. Could be good for Wade. It was the one thing he prided himself on.
And now look at him.
Instead of Wade, it's Logan who was God's best joke.

review (light spoilers):
happy kinktober bitches! typing all these tags out was crazy lol but in honour of it here's one kinktober series i've been keeping up with and two specifically that i have bookmarked.
i'm realising now i have no idea how to do reviews for smut fics so just trust me bro. for me there's a really specific style of smut writing that hits the spot and this is kinda it. there's just that oomph and hints (at least) of desperation in the writing which is so delicious and for the longer fics with more plot woven in, i sometimes find myself strangely more immersed in the character interactions outside of the smut so it's the whole package really. let's just say the choices made have intent. also you know it's good when an author who regularly writes smut says they're embarrassed of a smut fic they wrote LMAOOO
nate makes an appearance a few times too and frank is mentioned once. i've never really cared much about cablepool even though i've read a few fics, but goddamn am i warming up to the ship and this second fic might be part of the reason. (one of the more recent ones also mentions frank castle and it had me going Wait. maybe i do like frank/wade. i think i might just read any character x wade from this author i'm ngl)
favourite lines:
Or maybe that’s just because Wade is so fucked up on sex chemicals that one of them could read him the entirety of Pet Sematary and he’d get off.
They take care of him, gentle hands and softer words. Praise that he can’t even really hear but likes the cadence of.

it's after their first mission together that wade and logan share their first kiss.
the fight leading up to the time ripper took place right outside their apartment with barely any witnesses around, so the journey back home was short and quiet with no prying eyes. after that, it took a while for logan to get out of the house on the regular, but when he eventually did, it was just to walk or carry out errands, and in civilian clothes, he blended in with everyone else. it's different when they get called on a mission for the first time.
it's not a hard mission by any means, but it's brutal. he and wade subdue a dozen men on the streets, chase a final one down to the underground, and turn him over to the police. by the end of it all, the sun is going down, and people are travelling home from work. logan's suit is torn, and his bare arms are caked with dirt and dried blood.
a cab would be the typical mode of transport for them after a mission, but they're already at the station, anyway, so they decide to take the train. a busker sings at the platform with a guitar, a lulling, bittersweet thing, like the soundtrack to a life not deserving of such a melody. in the exhaustion and setting sun, it makes logan long for something he can't name. but they'll be home soon.
they board the train. he leans against one of the poles, feels the cool of the metal seep through his suit and into his spine. the music fades out, and what fades in in its place is the conversation and laughter of the others in the train car. a group of teenagers out having fun, businessmen in suits off work, older people with their grandkids or their shopping bags. wade's warmth opposite him, mask moving as he chatters.
he tries to listen, he really does, but as the train speeds through the tunnel, he feels stares turn slowly towards him from all sides. he smells their slight fear, their judgement, over the odour of him and wade. he realises all at once what he must look like, dirty and covered in blood that can't be his for his lack of open wounds. his exposed knuckles a darker red than the rest of his hands. he covers one hand with the other, unclenches his fists.
he's not one to care about what others think. not before, at least. he's used to glares of resentment and pity for what he did, eyes following him everywhere he went like the phantoms of those he killed. but these people don't know what he's done, and they stare at him all the same. it's almost worse.
for a brief moment, just a moment, he feels a stab of hopelessness. coming to this world felt like a second chance, a chance to start over without the world having to bear the knowledge of his inadequacies. but what if that isn't possible? what if this is all this world ever sees of him? the aftermath, the bloodstained hands, the aged lines of his face that tell them what they want to know. he's no one here, except when people remember him like this.
"peanut?"
wade's voice snaps him out of it, and when he looks up, wade has pulled his mask off. he's about to apologise for not listening when wade smiles slightly at him. it's enough to take the words out of his mouth. wade doesn't ask if logan's okay, but his eyes flicker almost imperceptibly over the other occupants of the train car. then he places a delicate hand on logan's waist and steps closer to him, until he can feel his breath ghosting his lips.
logan just looks up at him, breath caught in his throat. what? he thinks of asking. he doesn't.
wade's other hand trails up to cup his cheek. "let them stare," he says. "they don't know anything."
then he leans down and presses his lips against logan's. the train emerges out of the tunnel and bathes the car in golden light, and all the rest of it fades away.
wade steps back eventually, and logan wants to chase his lips, but instead watches as the shadows of his scars dance across his face with the path of the dying sun. he's so beautiful, logan thinks. he's home.
wade is right; let them stare. all he wants is to find his way home, just like everyone else. that's all anyone wants. and they're all on the same train home.
So, I haven't stopped thinking about the dyslexic Wade headcannon- like at all- so here is the second part/expansive of this post!
I really like the idea of him being really insecure about it but slowly accepting it more and being more open about it.
I also wrote from my experience, and I'm not officially diagnosed don't come at me, but I struggle alot with reading and writing so yeah!
Anyway, enjoy. Please. I hope everyone likes this as much as I do!
---------------------------------
It isn't that Wade can't read- or that he doesn't want to- it's more that it's a massive fucking struggle. Most of the time anyway.
He's always had trouble reading (and spelling, but he can avoid that with emojis now! How technology grows!) ever since he was a kid.
And maybe it's because he didn't grow up in a great environment, or maybe it's because he was never really encouraged, but Wade never ever mentions it. Not to anyone.
He never told anyone when he was in school that sometimes words didn't really make sense to him, and that he was behind in work because of it, not because he would sit and talk (though he did that too). He never told anyone that he preferred art over english because it was easier to understand a picture to him than it was words. He never told anyone that he struggled to spell simple words like "bakery" and "shopping" but could spell "because" and "beautiful" because of a stupid rhyme he had heard once.
It was just something he had grown up with- something he had assumed other kids dealt with- u til he got to high school. Suddenly, he was surrounded by people writing 3000 word essays like they were nothing and people reading 200 page books during lunch, all while Wade still hadn't finished a single book he owned. While Wade still struggled to understand words that weren't in a specific font or colour- something he had realised shortly after turning 10- and everyone around him could just do it. They didn't take 10 minutes to finish a page of a book. They didn't get headaches from the concentration he had to use while staring at a page trying to figure out if the word "wandering" was spelt correctly. They didn't struggle to read the teachers writing because of the cursive writing. They could all just do it and Wade had to just sit and try.
Naturally, people noticed that he would read slowly and awkwardly when they read aloud in class, or that his work always came back covered in red pen from where he had misspelled simple words. He quickly became a target for bullying. Honestly, he probably wouldn't feel as self conscious as he does if that hadn't happened. If teachers had just stepped in and helped- noticed that something was wrong- he would've gotten some help and grown up with accommodations that would've helped him succeed. But he didn't get any of that. He got bullied for reading slowly and being dumb. He got kicked and punched because he had been spotted reading a book meant for younger kids (big mistake).
Wade tried. He did. He read books as often as he could to try and make his brain click- and it never worked. He would try and spell random words- and sometimes he got them and sometimes he didnt- and eventually he gave up. Eventually he succumbed to the voice in his head telling him he was stupid and that he was just going to have to go through life suffering.
And as he got older, he figured out stuff that helped and stuff that didn't. He managed to find a few fonts that helped, a few overlays that made it easier, and a few things to remind him how to spell certain words he usually struggled with.
He also got better at hiding it. Wade would tell people he preferred calls over text. He would open birthday cards and smile at the writing even if he couldn't quiet make out what it said. He would avoid anything that involved him reading in public.
And again, not because he couldn't read, but because it might take him alittle longer than it should, and the idea people would notice made his stomach fill with anxiety, sending him right back to being that scrawny kid I high-school who got beaten up every lunch time.
All of that only got worse after his accident. Well, the cancer and the torture and the murders, but ya know.
Now people were staring at him anyway. People would look and gasp and gawk as he walked down the street or went to the store to get groceries. Everywhere he went people stared. Everywhere.
So instead of being slightly worried people would notice him focusing too hard on reading, he was fully aware people were staring at him constantly because of his skin, and he liked to avoid giving them anymore reasons to stare.
To his suprise though, moving in with Al had helped. She was the only person he had told, and she was the only person who seemed to understand, telling him about something called dyslexia and telling him that his brain just worked alittle different than his. Then proceeded to pass out after using the last of her cocaine- but the thought was still there.
And she didn't seem to mind that he read alittle slower sometimes, because she still asked him to read her mail to her, and sometimes write letters or cards. Wade would have to ask her how to spell the words, but she never seemed to get angry about it, and she always seemed to know how to spell them. Plus, if anyone noticed it wasn't spelt right, they could blame it on her being blind (how was the recipient to know this letter hadn't been writing by Al? She could probably write stuff if she wanted. She's blind, not stupid.).
When he started to gain friends and family- somehow gaining a little group of them- he didn't feel as bad about them noticing. He still didn't say anything- didn't make it obvious- but he wanted them to know he read there cards. Make sure they knew he read the group chat messages. Make sure they knew he did care (and for some reason, probably because the writer loves this headcannon, it seemed like alot of him showing his cared had to do with reading and spelling), writing them birthday cards and Christmas cards, and responding to every single message.
He found a quick way around the messages. That was easy. Emojis, memes and gifs quickly became his best friend. They were easy to dichiper most of the time, and Wade loved them, so it was a win win! He did write things too, and auto correct usually helped if he was struggling that day, but he was getting better thanks to Al and her bossing about of writing letters to her grandkids.
Writing cards took a little longer, but he spent alot of time on each one, making sure everything look neat and was spelt well. It always made him proud giving someone a card that he knew he spent so much time on, perfecting every last word.
When Logan moved in, it was a topic Wade was trying to avoid. He knew he should tell him- they were getting closer and closer each passing day- but he always felt so stupid trying to explain it. It made him feel stupid, even if he knew he wasn't. Most of the time.
Luckily, it doesn't actually come up for awhile, not until they have moved into their own place and Wade is handing Logan a birthday card with a huge grin on his face, practically bouncing on his feet.
And Logan opens it and reads it, and smirks a little because "I don't think the word awesome is spelt like that" and suddenly Wade's smile is wiped off his face.
He really had tried- maybe he didn't read the word properly off his phone or something- because Wade is taking the card and trying his best to quickly read it but can't, and he let's out a grunt of frustration because rambling at Logan apologetically. "I really tried to fucking spell everything right- I'm the idiot for fucking trying to read the word to spell it- I mean, who does that when you can't even read properly? I can re-do it- gimme like an hour and a half to go get a new card and get Al on the phone to just ask her how to spell it and then I can give you one that isn't fucked up-"
And Logan shuts him up with a small kiss to the forehead, telling him that he "likes this one just fine, has more charm" and Wade wants that to feel reassuring but it somehow doesn't, and it just makes him more annoyed.
So after a small melt down and a good cry in the shower for fucking up Logan's birthday, he explains it to Logan. Tells him about how he sometimes struggles with reading and spelling, but he really did try with the card. He really does try to read and write properly but some days it's hard and some days he can do it easier, and that he never really told anyone until he met Al. He messily rambles about everything- including the bullying- and Wade expects to be met with some laugh or ridicule. Though, this is Logan- and somehow this man loves every other part of him- so why would he love this part too?
And Logan just apologises to Wade that he made him feel bad about misspelling the word awesome- makes a joke about how it's a hard word to spell- and that Wade shouldn't have been bullied for something he couldn't help. Tells him that it's nothing to be ashamed off, and that he shouldn't let it hold him back. Tells him that if he ever needs help with spelling something he can ask Logan, that if he ever can't figure out a word that he can ask Logan, asks if there are any accommodations he uses to help him.
And Wade tells him the things that help, the things that don't, thanks him for the offer of help, and suddenly it doesn't seem so terrifying that Logan knows. Suddenly he feels better about it. Sure, Al had helped, but hearing this from Logan made him feel less afraid to hide it. Made him feel better about telling his friends so they knew.
And Logan stays true to his words. He helps him when he is struggling with a word- never jumps in a reads stuff or spells things without being asked first- and even uses some of the accommodations. He has his phone set to a font Wade can read easier, and his next birthday card is in big bold writing (Logan's writing is normally really scribbly and hard to read) and on a colour that helps him focus on the words more.
And he tells his friends and they understand, they do the same. They help if asked, they don't rush him in reading their cards or messages- Yukio starts to use more emojis and Collosus tries his best to give Wade mission debriefs in person or voice messages- and it helps him immensely. He gets more confident about his reading and writing, and he starts to work on ut even more. And yeah, he can't get rid of his dyslexia, but he can try and find new ways that help him. He can find books in safe fonts and listen to the audio book as he reads to help (Though, he does prefer listening to Logan read to him, because his voice is so smooth and gruff somehow, and he could listen to it for hours).
Wade hated that stupid part of himself for so long, but now- even if he is 47- he doesn't really mind it anymore. He makes jokes about his spelling errors or words he missreads, and he works on finding new things to help with Logan, and everything is alittle bit easier knowing he isn't going to be ridiculed and judged.
