🔑 Last year around this time I quit my job to pursue my passion. I was rejected by multiple companies and ended up here. I didn't like what I was going so around this time last year I quit my job and embarked on a journey that would change my life. It all started with design a gif board app. This was before the iOS could support it but I had a vision to do make one so I just did it. From there I spoke with the founder of Popkey(gif keyboard) and he told me that I should try a startup weekend. I got to startup weekend late but designed an app and with my team pitched it to VCs. We ended winning 2nd place out of 9 teams. That's when everything clicked, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. A couple months later I quit my job and started User Experience design classes at General Assembly. After 10 weeks,over 600+ hours of work and practice I graduated from the class. I knew it was going to be tough for me to find a job because of my lack of experience in the design world. So I networked like a mad man, started working with small startups, worked almost everyday from sunup to sundown on my craft. I was going on interview after interview with people saying "we love your work and thought process but you just don't have the experience". Well if you see all of this potential then fucking give me the experience and let me prove it! Of course I didn't say this at first but every time I was rejected I started to lose my fear of rejection and began to speak up. I would ask better questions to the point I could see they felt bad for telling me because they knew I wasn't just there for fun and they couldn't deny my passion. Now I was going on 4 months of not having a true job, my bank account was on E, wasn't eating well, and stressed out of my mind. I'm talking so stressed that I was getting sick. I'm talking so broke that I got behind on my bills and my everything with my car expired. Got pulled over going to an interview in Baltimore and the officer took my plates and said I was going to have my car towed because my lic was suspended because shit everything had BEEN expired.
