“   so              his  tab   ?    ”     she  mused   ,               a  wicked  spark  in  her  eyes as  she  tilted  her  head  toward                  the  passed  out  drunk  in  the  corner   .

      laughing  to  herself  as  zelda  let  her  eyes  wander  over  .    

          ❛  i  can't  even  imagine  how  long  it  could  be  at  this  point  .  .  .    ❜

        “   if  i’ve  learned  anything  from  my  long   ,   knowledge-filled  life   ,    ”   the  worker  rolled  her  eyes  in  amusement    ,    “   it’s  that  you  can  sell  anything  with  the  right  amount  of  confidence   .   come  on  now   ,    show  us  a  fist   .    ”    the  young  werewolf  lifted  his  own    ,   knuckles  turning  pink  due  to  the  abrupt  shift  in  movement    .    under  normal  circumstances   ,    remus  would  solve  his  problems  with  words              he  was  impressively  political  in  that  sense            but  growing  up  around  the  marauders  allowed  him  life  experience  ,    if  anything  else   .   so  he  knew  damn  well  how  to  hold  a  fist   .   knew  how  to  use  one  too   .

       looking  at  the  boy  ,  mary  watched  his  fingers  flex  into  a  fist  and  mary  could  feel  the  mortification  rising  through  their  body  and  into  her  cheeks  .  it  was  not  that  mary  could  not  form  a  fist  but  she  could  never  remember  if  the  thumb  was  supposed  to  be  in  or  out    .  .  .  and  if  you  had  to  put  a  wand  to  her  head—-  well  ,  mary  macdonald  had  never  been  in  a  true  fight  before  .  she  had  barely  been  in  a  scuffle  during  her  school  yard  days  .    taking  a  chance  ,  mary  rolled  their  fingers  into  their  palm  and  tucked  her  thumb  in  between  her  fingers  and  palm  —  wrapping  it  up  like  a  little  sausage  .  ❛  good  ?  ❜

                 “    i’ll  kill  ‘em   !    i’ll  kill  ‘em  all   !  ”   she  narrowed  her  gaze  ,   the  slight  scrunch  of  her  button  nose  removing  any  real  threat   .   she  could  toss  around  declarations  of  war  as  much  as  wanted             people  didn’t  really  fear  daisy  hookum   .   “   …   with  words   .   you  know  what  they  say   ,   ”   she  started   ,  pointing  a  knowing  finger  at  the  worker   ,   “   sticks  and  stones   .   ”

        ❛  it  is  what  they  deserve  dais  !  ❜  the  young  witch  said  ,  groaning  a  little  when  as  she  stretched  the  muscles  of  her  mouth  .  the  redness  making  her  skin  itch  with  heat  ,  placing  the  cold  pack  against  their  top  lip  once  more  .  ❛  sticks  and  stone  ,  ❜   mary  repeated  ,  taking  a  sip  of  water  the  worker  had  brought  over  to  them  once  she  had  arrived  .    ❛  daisy  ,  please  for  me  ,  as  a  dying  wish  .  .  .  ❜  mary  started  ,  letting  the  dramatics  flair  ,  ❛  place  a  curse  on  all  elbows  .  .  .  ❜  the  witch  finished  with  a  melodramatic  cough  and  sigh  .

              “  well  look  at  you   ,    ”    gideon  teased   ,   an  impish  grin  crossing  his  features  as  he  mimicked  her  posture   ,   “   standing  all  akimbo   ,   checking  me  out  like  i’m  a  book  on  one  of  these  shelves   .   ”   he  was  wearing  a  look  that  one  might  find  odd   ,   yet  fascinating   .   it  was  one  that  he  frequently  adorned  as  of  late    ,   the  wizard  adopting  a  smile  that  couldn’t  seem  to  pass  the  precipice   .   as  if  he  was  inherently  amused  and  disappointed  at  the  same  time   .   and  unbeknownst  to  dorcas   ,   he  was   .   he  was  amused  by  her  .   amused  and  content  and  anxious  and  infatuated    :    a  series  of  emotions  that  had  no  business  mixing   .  and  the  disappointment    ?   that  came  from  his  inability  to  do  anything  about  it   .

              rules  dictated  gideon  stopped  flirting   .   they  dictated  gideon  kept  his  hands  to  himself   .   rules  dictated            honestly  fuck  the  rules   .   gideon  hated  them   .   but  unfortunately   ,   he  was  supposed  to  be  fabian   ,   and  that  fucker  LOVED  himself  a  clusterfuck  of  rules   .   so  the  man  paused  in  uncertainty     .    “   i  didn’t  want  to  be  in  my  apartment   .   ”   he  answered  after  a  moment  of  silence   ,   honestly  slipping  from  his  lips   .   “   it’s  a   …   different  kind  of  quiet   .    not  as  inviting  as  a  library  .   ”

      fire  spread  through  her  body  when  the  young  witch  got  called  out  for  her  wandering  eyes  and  she  was  sure  that  her  cheeks  betrayed  her  .    keeping  her  eyes  down  onto  the  wrinkles  pages  of  the  book  ,  dorcas  let  her  cheeks  cool  before  snapping  the  book  shut  and  placing  it  against  her  chest  .    ❛    i  don't  enjoy  the  quiet  of  my  dorm  either  .  .  .  ,  ❜  she  started  ,  taking  smaller  steps  towards  fabian  .  in  the  list  of  things  that  would  probably  come  back  to  bite  her  in  the  ass  one  day  ,  she  was  positive  that  whatever  she  was  feeling  right  now  would  be  one  of  those  things .  

       ❛  well  .  .  .  maybe  you  can  help  me  with  something  , ❜  dorcas  spoke  softly  ,  slipping  her  fingers  with  fabian's  to  pull  him  along  to  the  table  that  she  has  created  a  home  at  during  the  late  night  hours  .  wand  to  her  head  ,  dorcas  would  never  admit  that  it  felt  amazing  that  to  have  her  hand  laced  with  someone  else's  and  she  would  savour  the  feeling  for  as  long  as  she  could  .    ❛  i've  been  stuck  on  something  for  the  last  hour  and  a  half  and  i  could  really  use  your  help  ,  love  ,  ❜  the  young  witch  smiled  up  at  the  man  ,  batting  her  lashes  .  

       opening  the  book  she  had  in  her  hands  on  the  table  ,  she  let  her  fingers  drag  along  the  pages  once  more  .  ❛  i'm  writing  an  essay  and  i'm  trying  to  find  if  there  is  an  uncommon  potion  ingredient  that  has  similar  properties  to  bezoar  .  ❜

      his  dark  black  hair  was  disheveled  and  sticking  out  in  weird  places   .   the  flask  hidden  in  his  jacket  pocket  was  empty  and  his  grunts  were  anger-induced  and  guttural   .   it  had  been  a  rough  night   .   whimpers  and  cries  for  help  plagued  his  ears  as  he  remembered  the  psychotic  laughter  that  echoed  from  his  father’s  lips   .   we  don’t  enjoy  torture   ,   rabastan         he  preached   ,  his  voice  hoarse  from  decades  of  smoking         we  enjoy  retribution   .     

      from  his  peripherals   ,   he  saw  someone  walk  up  and  sit  right  beside  him  despite  the  large  selection  of  open  seats    .    the  fucking  audacity   .   “  unless  you’re  buying  me  a  drink   ,   i’m  not  interested  .   ”   he  mumbled  before  finishing  off  the  remains  of  his  glass    ,    the  bartender  looking  both  impressed  and  worried  by  the  display   .

       zelda  wouldn't  call  herself  a  bar  crawler  normally  ,  she  tried  to  keep  an  air  of  elegance  to  the  whole  drinking  affair  by  either  charming  the  likes  of  her  class  of  people  in  an  upscale  wine  bar  or  going  anonymous  in  the  dingy  three  broomsticks  but  ,  all  she  needed  tonight    was  the  cheapest  and  strongest  drink  that  she  could  find  —  this  establishment  checked  her  boxes  .    pushing  the  wooden  doors  ,  zelda  saw  the  all  too  familiar  head  of  hair  at  the  bar  .    humming  to  herself  ,  the  witch  sat  down  at  one  of  the  barstools  next  to  her  favorite  source  of  free  labor  —  rabastan  .    however  ,  the  lady  felt  her  nose  scrunch  at  the  heavy  stench  of  hard  liquor  radiating  from  the  boy  next  to  her  .  

      one  of  the  many  privileges  to  having  a  face  like  hers  was  no  one  ,  not  even  a  rule  pushing  bartender  ,  would  stop  her  from  lighting  a  cigarette  in  their  bar  .    ❛  this  isn't  a  great  look  for  you  ,  rabastan  ,  ❜    the  woman  started  ,  the  cigarette  punctuating  her  words  as  it  shook  in-between  her  lips  .    ❛  i  wonder  what  daddy  lestrange  would  say  if  he  was  hear  to  see  this  display  ?  ❜    the  witch  pushed  and  prodded  .  

       offering  the  boy  a  cigarette  ,  ❛  just  a  gin  &  tonic  for  me  and  whatever  the  gentleman  wants  ,  ❜  zelda  spoke  to  the  bartender  ,  handing  him  a  few  galleons  to  start  a  tab  .
