a year had passed since his fathers death, since vorian had attained his titles and responsibilities. a fucking year, and not a day went by that was easier than the last. growing up he had known of the many annoying things his father had to deal with, had hoped that heâd be spared the curse of being the head of their family due to his blood hungry ways. at the very least, heâd hoped the outright disrespect that he got from others would stop, or at bare minimum, slow, due to his position. but it had not, and that had resulted in a very, very dangerous situation. the constant tug of war between the part of him that was raised to fulfil his duties and the part of him that wanted to split the head of any man who dare say, or act, out of line, was slowly driving him mad, and whenever he started to go mad, he drank.
today was no different, sat at one of the taverns, drowning himself in whatever alcohol they would provide him with. rian tapped his finger against his glass, irritation clear in his icy eyes as he tried to ignore the rest of the people within the room. it seemed that there was one person in the tavern that was ballsy enough to come sit by him. the sound of the chair moving caught his attention, snapping his gaze towards the intruder. he stared at them in silence for a few moments, mauling over the pros and cons of telling them outright to fuck off, but decided he must try to seem more like a lord than a feral animal. his arm raised, curling his index and pointer finger at the woman who had been bringing him his drinks thus far to call her over. â can i get you a drink, friend? â

â â THE RIVERLANDS present(s) VORIAN âRIANâ MALLISTER, the RULING LORD / MASTER OF SHIPS of SEGARD. when the dragons danced in the sky they thought the BLACKS would still fly, but in the blink of an eye, they would all die. the TWENTY-SIX year old MALE who was CHARMING & DUTIFUL before they saw the first of the flames, is now VIOLENT & APATHETIC after seeing the last. theyâre often associated with A WILD STORM, SINKING SHIPS, AND THE SMELL OF SEASALT. ( Alex Høgh Andersen)
Vorian Mallister is the only son of Lukas Mallister. Like most of the boys in Seagard, he was raised around the ships and trained on every aspect of the life of a sailor. For the first five years of young Vorianâs life, he was a happy boy, known for playing pranks around the town and trying to win over the hearts of anyone who gave him the chance. Until his eldest sister became ill, and after six months of fighting passed away. The next year, a fire caught in the stables and the families second eldest daughter was trapped inside. The year after that, unable to cope with the losses of her daughters, his mother claimed her own life by jumping off their boat during a routine patrol. Lukas had tried to save her along with several of the crew, but it hadnât worked. Following the death of his mother, Vorian fell into a streak of chaos, one his father had hoped would end but only worsened during his teen years.
With all of his rage and no outlet, Vorian became obsessed with killing the Ironborn, with the very idea of wiping them completely off the map. On his thirteenth name day, he announced that he would one day be known as âVorian the Ironborn Slayerâ, and that he planned on captaining the most brutal ship Seagard has yet to see. But it seemed his goals were doomed from the start, as two years later when he was merely aged five and ten, he was given the opportunity to Captain the ship in his fathers absence. Given that it was just a routine patrol of their borders, to make sure there were no Ironborn ships within view or any threats nearing their land, no one had really expected much to happen. But a lot happened.Â
About half an hour after they left the shores of Seagard, a storm hit, and it hit fast. The crew barely had any time to react before the waves were washing back over the ship, but still they did everything they could to try to get out of it. Vorian had been on the ship plenty of times in bad weather, but it seemed like some of the men were panicking without the presence of their regular captain. Despite his efforts to get the crew together and get the ship to safer waters, some of the men still werenât listening to him, and due to them not listening, and not paying attention, the ship knocked into some large rocks, creating holes in the side of the ship. Now unbalanced and broken, the ship stood no chance against the heavy winds or the harsh water that continued to roll over the deck. Within twenty minutes of being in the storm, the ship had sank.
Unable to fight back against the current, Vorian gave himself to the water and allowed it to take him where it saw fit. He claims to this day that there was a creature, whether it was a God or the spirit of his mother he doesnât know, that wanted him to survive the crash, because when he washed up on shore an hour later, he came to the moment the air hit his lungs. This incident however put a dent in all of Vorianâs big, bloody dreams, as many of the men of Seagard would laugh about the fact that a Mallister boy couldnât even control his ship during a storm, despite him arguing that they had not seen it the way they had seen it, and instead of getting the nickname of âVorian the Ironborn Slayerâ, he was called âVorian, Captain of the Ghostsâ and mocked over the loss of his crew and chosen family.
This tragedy took a massive toll on the young Lord, and he began to spend much of his time either studying, fucking, fighting and sailing, until his fatherâs death had put an end to it. At twenty-five Vorian lost his final parental figure to an illness that had been too strong for the elderly lord to handle, and gained the title of Ruling Lord of Seagard. His new title however, did not put an end to the ruthless things some of the other men said in regards to his abilities as a captain, and while Vorian tried his hardest to act as his father would approve of, heâs been known to slip up quite often.
Although he hated being called âCaptain of the Ghostsâ in his younger years, Vorian has since embraced it and made it a large part of who he is.
Because of the accident, Vorian has spent years studying weather patterns and how to tell when a storm is coming based on the water alone. He also spent a great deal of time studying how to survive during the worst water conditions, too.
Vorians family originally consisted of his mother, father, and three elder sisters. Now, itâs just him and his sister.
Vorianâs father died of a similar illness that his elder sister died of.
He can vividly remember every moment of his drowning, and he can remember how it felt to be dragged up onto the rocks of the shore.
During the sinking of the ship, Vorianâs best friend and âchosen brotherâ tried to convince him to climb on top of one of the barrels that floated in the water to try to save himself, but Vorian refused to go without him.
Although all of his crew are missed by him, he is haunted particularly by the ghost of his chosen brother, Ambrose, and his ex lover, Lymond.
Desperate to forget everything about the accident, all Vorian did for years was study, drink, fuck, and patrol the borders.
Heâs bisexual with no preferences, all he looks for in a partner is someone who will be a partner in crime with him.
He recognizes the sacrifices the Mallister family have made in the past to ensure the crown sat on the correct head, and continues to fight for the Blacks.
During the sinking of the ship, Vorian got caught in the current and hit some of the rocks, leaving him with several scars across his back and chest, most of which are covered up with dark ink.
Following his fathers death, Vorian was passed his ship, which he rebranded as The Ghost, and his titles.
Although he always knew the day would come where he was expected to take over his fathers titles and positions, Vorian had been mentally unprepared for it to happen, and often finds himself in a tug of war with the feral side of him that craves blood at the slightest hint of disrespect, and the side of him that wishes to uphold his fathers expectations.
