âHey, squirt! I was wonderinâ when youâd notice!â
And that hug is returned, Quick grinning widely. Heâd noogie the baby brother, but the helmet is kinda getting in the way of that. It ruined the effect.
âYâknow, one of these days I should really take ya on vacation with me. I was in Romania this timeâ Bet youâd love it!â
Crash hugged Quick as tight as he could without hurting him, pulling back a little to look up at him with a wide grin.
âYou should! Donât leave me here, Quick-- It gets boring without you around!â Granted he could always cause trouble, but it just wasnât the same without his favorite older brother around.
âRomania, huh? Sure. If you like it, I will, too!â
thetemporalkeeper:
Time raised an eyebrow at Crashâs example of all kinds of fun stuff. They just slid down the walls of the fortress? He wasnât sure what that would accomplish, aside from a cheap thrill⌠which was probably the point. He wasnât sure what could be done with that, but if that was considered fun amongst DWNâsâŚ
Then again, illegal activities were also considered fun among DWNâs, and Time would not get involved in that sort of thing. He hoped Crash wouldnât suggest anything criminal without thinking.
âI⌠I donâtâŚâ Time sighed, trying to think of what he liked to do. There were certainly things he enjoyed doing, but he doubted Crash would find any of them interesting. Music boxes, clocks, time research, as well as hard mathematics and science was probably not something the DWN would consider for an afternoon. There might be one thing he could take an interest inâŚ
⌠No. Time would not mention such a thing.
âI donât think I do much of interest to you. As long as itâs not illegal, I wouldnât mind tagging along with you and whoever else you feel like bringing along for⌠whatever it is you do, like sliding down the fortress, I suppose.â
Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Crash expected the skeptical look, yet he still kept a grin on his face. He didnât mind if Time wasnât sure how to react to his idea of having a good time.
The DLN was right that Crash wouldnât find most of his enjoyable activities interesting. It was more likely than not that he would suggest something illegal to do without thinking about it too much. Heâd tone it down for Time, sure, but chances were that something was bound to go wrong with what Crash spent his time doing.
âOkay! Cool. If you think of anythinâ let me know. We can always try out somethinâ that you like later.â When he brought up not doing anything illegal, Crash paused, looking off to the side as he thought...Taking an uncomfortably long time to think of something.
âAlright, hereâs the deal. Yâknow how Megaman had those hoverboard things way back when he fought me and the rest of my line? Well, back at the fortress we have some hoverboards kind of like that.â His grin widened.
âYâget where Iâm goinâ with this? We can use âem to ride around-- They go pretty damn fast, too!â
studyinginrobotics:
Kalinka nodded when Crash told her she could ask him to speed up or slow down if needed. She tucked her legs up to her chest as he pushed, not wanting to kick him while she was spinning.
As the chair started moving Kalinka let out a squeal of laughter. This really was a lot of fun.
Knowing she didnât get dizzy easily she soon urged Crash to make her go faster, laughing all the while as she did.
The DWN chuckled slightly when he heard Kalinka laughing, continuing to spin her. He picked up the speed when he was told to. A couple of minutes later he stopped to allow Kalinka to take a break, slowing down the chair carefully. Once it was moving slow enough he let go of it, slumping down beside the chair.
âIsnât doinâ that fun, kid?â He asked, grinning.
studyinginrobotics:
Kalinka nodded at Crash explaining how to make the chair go faster. It was the same as putting her arms over her head during a pirouette rather than holding them at her sides. More mass near the center makes you go faster.
After watching Crash do it once she smiled to show she understood. She then climbed onto the chair when it was offered to her. Her legs dangled over the edge but only the tips of her boots reached the ground. She flailed a bit but there was no movement.
âI think youâre going to have to push me.â
Crash watched as Kalinka got on the chair, a grin still on his face. He wanted to impress her along with have fun with her, and this was the best way he could do it.
When Kalinka said that he would have to push her, he nodded, snickering a little bit. âToo short, huh? Alright.â His comment was said with a light-hearted tone as he moved behind the chair, pressing one of his drills up against it and beginning to push it at a decent speed, making sure not to hit Kalinka with his drills.
âLet me know if yâwant to go faster, okay, kid? And if its too much I can slow down. I dunno whatâs too much for you.â With that said, he pushed the chair more, causing to spin a bit faster than before.

thetemporalkeeper:
Geez, even the kid DWNs were foul-mouthed? Well, Time wasnât going to say much of it. It wasnât worth his time to, particularly since Crash seemed intent on not displaying such behaviors around the DLN.
âIf you say so,â Time conceded, though he had to wonder how two robots who had the social skills of bricks would be able to be anything more than awkward around each other. Even if it was for the sake of their siblings, he couldnât help but be concerned about whether or not this would work.
âEr, right. Iâm sure we know what our respective functions are, so⌠what is it exactly you do in your spare time? I donât have much of it, usually, so Iâm⌠a little unsure of what to do with it.â
Oh, good. Time didnât seem to be offended by Crashâs near-cursing. He had a slightly relieved look on his face for just a moment.
Crash was only vaguely aware of how many problems could arise with them trying to get along. Even if he was aware he was far too determined to be friendly with Time to give up.
âYeah, right. You work with time-related stuff. I blow things up.â That was simple enough. âWhen I donât have to work or anything I usually hang out with Quick or my other siblings...We do all kinds of fun stuff.â He grinned. âLike, this one time when I was hanginâ out with Slash we slid down the side of the fortress for the fun of it. I do stuff like that all the time.â
He paused, just then registering what Time had said about not knowing what to do with his free time.
âYou can try some of the stuff I do! But...I think most of it is illegal. Huh.â He looked around for a minute. âAnd youâre a DLN, so...â
Crash shook his head, looking back at Time and grinning. âAh, its fine! Anyway. Do you have anything that you like doing?â
thetemporalkeeper:
Time tended to forget that his word bank was rather advanced for his A.I. age. It came to him naturally, and usually no one said a word of it. Was it really that strange? It didnât matter, he supposed. As long as he didnât have to dumb down his language, heâd be fine. Now all he had to do was stop his voice from cracking whenever he resisted forcibly deepening it.
â⌠Youâre new to this,â Time observed, noting that Crash was quite similar to himself when he began to lose his bitterness and distance from everyone. âItâs worth the effort, I believe.â
Time was still left in an awkward position, as it never crossed his mind that someone might approach him with just as little clue of what to do as he did. Staring in silence was a waste of time, but it was the only option he had until his processor came up with something. As such, he was relieved when Crash seemed to have some ideas.
âWell, what are they? Iâm curious.â
âYeah, no shââ Crash started, lowering his drills from his face, but then stopped himself. He was used to cursing and using seemingly rude language around his siblings, but they knew that he wasnât actually being aggressive, and it was, in fact, a casual thing to him. However, Time didnât know that, and Crash didnât want to get off on the wrong foot with him so early. âUhâŚSorry. I meanâŚYouâre right. I am new to this. But Iâll make it work.â
He hoped that explanation would do, and that Time wouldnât take his near-cursing the wrong way. His attention was drawn away from that near blunder when Time asked what he had in mind.
âWell, first we should start with what weâre interested in? We should try to find something that we both like doing. Thatâd help make things less awkward, I think. Â We could also try to learn more about each other. It wouldnât do any good if we just avoided it.â
thetemporalkeeper:
Okay, Crash quite possibly had less tact than Time did back in the day. It would be amusing if it werenât for the awkwardness it caused, which he was adamantly trying to ignore. He could get past this and get along with the DWN, especially since it was within their best interests to do so.
âI donât what?â Time asked, unsure of what Crash meant. âIs it my voice?â He was still in the habit of forcing depth into his voice when meeting someone unfamiliar or when caught in an uncomfortable situation. âI apologize, does this sound better?â
Time gradually lessened the depth to his voice, trying to sound like an actual twelve year old. He didnât know if it would help anything, or if that was what Crash meant, but it was still something. If nothing else, it would help him unlearn such a habit and speak normally all the time.
âWell, if thatâs your definition of thinking things through, then⌠I suppose this is as far as you got, isnât it?â
Crash looked back at Time, a curious look on his face. He looked mildly surprised when he heard Timeâs actually voice, but waved one of his drills around in the air. âNo, no, it wasnât that, I mean the words you use make you sound like an adult. Uh...I didnât mean that you should change it or whatever. Itâs fine.â He sounded rather awkward. He wasnât used to the situation he was in, so he was rather lost.
â...I guess so.â Crash replied. âWell...We should try to do something to bond or whatever....Right? I mean, if Quick and Oil got along, then Iâm sure that we can. Somehow.â Despite his being awkward, Crash genuinely did want to try to be friends with Time; Quick got along with Oil, and Time was Oilâs little brother the same way that Crash was Quickâs little brother, so...It made sense to at least try to get along.
Crash started to try to think of what they could do to try to get along. He placed the tips of his drills up to his mouth as he thought, going silent for a minute before speaking again.
â...Hey. Do you have any ideas of how we could start? I have a few, but we should work together on it.â
thetemporalkeeper:
Time figured it was highly improbable for him to encounter someone with worse social skills than he did. Years of being somewhat hostile to most of oneâs family tends to make friendly communication difficult. Yet here Crash was, speaking to him rather bluntly about what his intent was. He didnât even have to ask!
Well, that made things a lot less awkward for Time.
âGood plan. Iâm sure thatâs an arrangement you and I can manage, should we dedicate ourselves to it. Is that all you came for?â No, wait, there had to be small talk, or some attempt at a conversation. What were they supposed to do now?
â⌠Iâm assuming you didnât think this through very well, did you?â
Thankfully for Time, Crash had a habit of being extremely blunt and honest. He wouldnât exactly mind Timeâs lack of social skills since he wasnât very good at being friendly with DLNs or people he didnât really know in general. That was more Starâs thing.
âYeah, thatâs pretty much it.â Crash replied, looking down at the ground and kicking his foot a little before he looked back up. âYou donât talk like Iâd expect you to. Youâre, what, twelve?â
It was less of a jab and more of a genuine question. The DWN didnât think that it would cause any negative reaction. Then again he wasnât exactly tactful either.
âWhat?â Crash asked, frowning as he narrowed his eyes. âI thought it out! All we gotta do is get along, right? That shouldnât be very hard, even if youâre a DLN...â He crossed his arms, closing his eyes and looking off to the side as he pouted slightly. It wasnât until very recently that he had been less hostile toward DLNs, much less trying to be friends with them. It was...A work in progress.
Kalinka was a bit surprised at Crash jumping up and running out of the room but she remained sitting on her bed like she was told. It was obvious he had an idea and was going to get something for it.
When he came back with the spinny chair she tilted her head in confusion not understanding what he wanted to do with it. Since Kalinka didnât have any at home and had never been to a normal school she didnât get to see these kinds of chairs very much so the idea of playing on them never crossed her mind.Â
However seeing Crash jump on it and spin around on it made her eyes light up in realization. Ok that sounded like a lot of fun and she nodded eagerly.
She jumped off the bed and ran over to him with a large smile. âHow fast can you make it go?â
Crash grinned down at Kalinka, slowing down his spinning by placing one of his feet onto the ground. âPretty fast! It helps if you bring your legs up.â
To demonstrate, he pushed against the ground to make the chair spin again. Then, he drew his knees up to his chest, which caused him to go faster. Once the chair slowed down, he took a moment to get a hold of himself, having gotten dizzy from the spinning.
The DWN got off of the chair, gesturing to it with his drills. âThatâs how you do it!â He paused. â...If yâcanât push off the ground yourself then I can spin ya. Now, here, get on!â

some megamans
Kalinka surged. âNot really, normally when one of your siblings wants to play with me I do whatever they think of. Well except for Swift he letâs me play whatever I want with him, but I donât think youâd want to play dress up or tea party.â
âSo if you have any ideas we can do that.â
Crash frowned, making a slightly disgusted face. âNo! ...The idea of Swift doinâ that, though...â He snickered.
At the suggestion that he share his own ideas, Crash thought for a moment before a wide grin spread onto his face. He hopped off of the bed and onto his feet, sprinting out of the room. âWait right here, kid, I have a great idea!â
With that he left, leaving the door open slightly so he wouldnât have much trouble getting back in. A few minutes later he came back, pushing the door open as he used his side to push in a chair with wheels on it into the room. He positioned it in the middle of the room, getting on top of it and sitting on his knees as he spun around in it.
âLetâs use this!!â
Kalinka watched the robot as he came over to sit next to her. She looked at the door he left open but didnât think to much on it. It wasnât like she couldnât leave the room herself if she wanted. It was the fortress itself she couldnât get out of. Not that she was going to try again. She learned quickly that it was better for everyone right now if she didnât try to escape. It wasnât like she disliked it here but knowing the reason for her kidnapping she wanted to try and stop it if she could. Still that wasnât going to happen today. Crash had come here for a reason and that was what her attention was on now.
At his explanation she nodded in understanding. She was a little surprised heâd come to seek her out when heâd only just acknowledged she was in the fortress before was a bit surprising, but if he was going to try and be friendly now she wasnât going to complain.
âSo did you just come here to have some company or did you want to do something?â
âI wanted tâdo something.â Crash replied, laying back on the bed for a moment. âI mean, I probably have assignments to do, but Iâm not gonna do âem.â He looked back over at Kalinka. âThat and you look bored outta your mind.â
He sat back up again, placing his drills in his lap. âSo what dâya say, kid? Any ideas on what you wanna do?â
Crashman had ideas himself, but if the human had any idea of what she wanted to do then heâd listen. It wasnât like he had anything important to do.
Kalinka was sitting in the room she was given while she was being held hostage. It wasnât anything special just a standard room with a bed, desk and closet. A few pictures she and Key had drawn hung on the walls and a few plushiest for Swift but that was the extent to which it was personalized.
Kalinka was in her bed just letting her thoughts wonder when she heard something and looked to the door. It sounded likes someone was trying to open it but was having trouble with the nob. Did Staccato come to ask to play again or something? The rattling went on for a bit more and she was starting to wonder if she should go and open it for them until the door swung open revealing a different handless robot.Â
Blinking in confusion she sat up and looked to the DWN. âCrash?â
She hoped he didnât mind her calling him by his armored name since sheâd yet to learn his civilian one. Of course her mind was more occupied with what he might want with her. She knew he wouldnât hurt her since Wily had given strict orders not to, even if some tried to push that order as much as they could, *cough* Snake *cough*. but theyâd never really talked before so she didnât know what heâd want.
Crash moved inside the room, leaving the door open slightly behind him. One because he didnât want to have to fumble with opening it again, but also because he figured that even if Kalinka tried to run out she wouldnât be able to get far, so it was fine. His brothers were treating her well anyway from what he heard, and she didnât seem very tense.
He looked around the room, noticing the drawings and the plushies. The hint of a smile came to his face, the DWN easily recognizing the drawing style that Key had, and the plush toys that Swift had.
His attention was brought back to Kalinka when she addressed him. He blinked, before replying. âYo.â He said, waving a drill at her similarly to how one would wave a hand. He walked over to her, tilting his head as he sat down beside her.
â...I donât have anythinâ to do, and you donât look like you have anythinâ to do, either.â That was about as much explanation that Crash was going to give unless Kalinka asked for clarification.

The orange DWN hadnât interacted with Kalinka all that much since the childâs kidnapping-- in fact, he had only spoken to her a few times, and even then it was mostly in passing.
Still, he found himself bored and at least vaguely interested in seeing if there was anything fun he could do with her. He knew he had orders to not hurt her, and he had no intention of doing so. He just wanted to see if things would take an interesting turn.
After all, it wouldnât hurt to try and play with her, right? It wasnât like she had anything else to do considering she was being held hostage.
Crash wandered around the fortress until he came across the area where Kalinka was being kept. He fumbled when it came to opening the door, letting out a few curses under his breath before he managed to get into the room. He poked his head inside, staring at Kalinka curiously.
