So to start: Knowledge is information, however without Truth, said knowledge could easily be false or misleading whether intentional or not. Truth on the other hand is something that is irrefutable, but there's no explanation, or rather Knowledge about it like the why, when, where, and what not. Knowledge without Truth quickly becomes Deceit. Truth without Knowledge is how things like false information come to be. Like people knew the concepts of things like storms for example but had no explanation for how nor why; so, they came up with an explanation, even if it was wrong. A truth having a false explanation simply put. Here's an example of what I'm saying what happens when one exists without the other: Truth without Knowledge - "Grass is green." That is true, there's no debate on what color it is, but why IS it green? What gives it that color and what purpose does its coloration serve? Without Knowledge, you could just say, "Well grass is green because of (made up idea here)." Knowledge without Truth - Grass is green because of chlorophyl, a pigment that color makes it best at absorbing sunlight because the "sun's favorite color". It's correct, yes, but it isn't fully true. They build off each other and cannot exist without the other's existence. Pure Vanilla, at least pre awakening, was entirely gold with only a bit of blue in one of his eyes. This could represent that he knows a lot of the Truths of this world but does not have the Knowledge to explain them. Post awakening though, he's still mostly gold, but has a lot more blue accents compared to before, showing he's gotten wiser thanks to SMC. On the contrary, Shadow Milk, at least pre corruption, was a fairly equal mixture of blue and gold, showing he knew a lot of Truthful Knowledge. Post corruption, however, he is entirely blue, showing he still retains his vast Knowledge, but harbors no Truth to them, hence where Deceit comes in. Deceit is a corrupted form of Knowledge, the best deceivers the smartest people after all, and SMC left all his gold behind in his corruption. This could explain why his Sage of Truth costume is a nice mixture of blue and gold again, since he let the Truth back in. Meanwhile, Pure Vanilla's Truthless Recluse costume is the inverse of that idea. He's slowly letting go of Truth and embracing (albeit deceitful) Knowledge, which could be why he's mostly blues with golden accents.
