Oh my god, I just saw what happened to wingarea's channel... are things okay? Will you be re-uploading your subbed videos? I'm really sorry about what happened...
hey there! thank you for reaching out, and thank you for your concern! i was asked about this on a different account so forgive me for my laziness here but i’m going to copy and paste my answer since i can’t write it any better:
Anonymous ASKED: correct me if i’m wrong, but you used to be wingarea on youtube, right? i just checked your account and it says it’s been terminated. just wanted to give you a heads up!
LOL yes….
this morning i saw i had a few emails from youtube regarding copyright infringement/content removals all from the same producer. i was a little surprised just because the videos in question were 6-8 years old, but truth be told i had it coming.
back in Ye Olden Vocaloid Days, before most producers had youtube channels, it was common for translators to reupload videos. these days, youtube is globally popular and has features like community translation, so you don’t even need to upload something yourself to subtitle it. this switch in the community is a big reason why i stopped uploading to my channel. in 2011 it felt like i was helping producers but by 2015 it felt like i was just stealing from them.
i’ve spoken with the producer who requested the takedowns (to apologize for reuploading his works 8 years ago and to send him my translation/subtitle files for his own use) and he was SUPER kind, thanking me for getting people to listen to his music before he was on youtube and politely saying that he would just prefer traffic go to his official channel now. he also said he would use my translations, which is far too kind of him. i DON’T think he was intending to terminate my account, lol.
anyway, i don’t think it’s likely my channel will return. i’m kind of happy to let it die since – let’s be real – i had no motivation to maintain it anyway. i have tons of text files of most of my translations (many of which i never subbed), and others were archived elsewhere by other people in vocaloid fandom, so i’ll do what i should have from the start and just compile my translations somewhere.
