A manifestation of lines as a fundamental part or consequence of a designÂ
Line is one of the most fundamental elements in design and visual art. It represents the direction and movement of a dot/point in space. Once again, I chose to look towards nature for inspiration.Â
There are two sets of lines working together in this composition. First, there are the lines in the grain of the wood that are running parallel to one another. Second, there are the implied lines that are not actually drawn on the image but exist where one area of color meets another. The large black gaps between the wooden floorboards imply this type of line. The juxtaposition of the two types of lines demonstrates contrast and variation in line weight. Finally, the direction in which they are moving from left to right implies a positive, upward movement.
