{🗡️} - "No sudden movements, slow breathing... A-and you're positive I won't sink if I inhale on my back??" He's looking at the pool with growing concern. He had stripped down to his skivvies and stood shivering next to the two women. "You'll be here if I need help, right??""
"Of course, you will be fine. And you have our word, if ought goes wrong, we will save you." They can both see the nerves radiating off of the knight, but he was determined, they can tell.
"Here, I can make this a little easier on you." Soon, the younger sister was kicking off her boots, & discarding her painting supplies, hat & jacket along side them. Her pants are sure to still get wet, but that's such a mild discomfort she can manage. "I'll join you. I can help you feel more comfortable on the water's surface by holding you up, & we can proceed from there, how does that sound, hm?"
Tiffanie: Then first thing is first, you must learn to float! You will need to understand breathing control & buoyancy, & be able to float on your back for you go onto water bound movement.
{🗡️} - "Forgive my ignorance, but... are bodies able to float naturally? What happens if I only sink??" He only knows how to flail when in the water. He remembers a pond in High Tower, but he never went near it.
"Typically, yes. And to not do so, there is usually a reason for such." Tiffanie knows, she had to learn this all the same from Ivy, she was not taught to swim either, & had to have impromptu lessons on the fly from her sister.
"A good way to avoid sinking is to not do any sudden movements & have eased, slow breathing. Splashing & panicked breathing increases your weight & expels the air from within you that is needed for floating."
"... The fact that you are the one reminding me of that for a change is a little concerning."
"But that means a trip to Vylbrand is soon to be due. How many of our friends will we be coaxing into coming this time, maybe enough to warrant picking on Gegeruju again to commandeer another of his yachts?"
"You ask me that after you try to kill me?? Be for-fucking-real!"
"... Now that you mention it, the other way around maaaay have been more appropriate...."
There's a certain amount of rage that roiled under the surface of those ocean eyes, additional waves crashing in an already turbulent sea. Ivy felt as though she should not be surprised, that something attempting to kill her would be after the key, but the sure audacity to ask that as if nothing had happen!
"If I had the key, I wouldn't need to be cruel & turn away so many people." It was the simulant's attempt at bargain, now that violence & pleading had failed. "Far more then five thousand could become Endless & know eternal happiness."
Once again, Ivy found herself producing a snarl from her throat, as her teeth grit. Tiffaine herself too found her jaw going slack for a moment. The whole lot of them learning of this, they knew what that means the simulant was trying to do.
"What!? You mean to steal aether from other worlds again!?"
The fake queen only glanced at Wuk Lamat, before breaking into a smile & making a grand, open armed gesture, motioning towards the screen.
"All is for the sake of his experiments."
It certainly drew the attention back to the screen, at least, for Ivy, whose boiling gaze settled upon the screen, the simulant & Lamat speaking just to the side. She could not be sure, with the horrid state of the lightning from, whatever the heck the feed was being shared from, but the viper could almost be sure he was meeting her gaze back. Though neither said a word, neither moved for a time, & the rage she felt in this silent, prolonged exchange of eyes numbed the violent static that still pulsed through her.
"What do you stand to gain by making everyone Endless?"
Ivy broke the silence first, bringing herself to her feet once more with her question roiling off her tongue with the toxic smoothness of a snake's venom. And for a while, she was also met with silence.
"You're speaking to me?" He responses, & sighs, acting as if the pair did not just exchange a prolonged staring contest. Acting even as if he is exhasted with having to answer this question at all.
"Our goal is to usher in the next phase of mankind's evolution. Since time immemorial, life has used death to facilitate adaptation in an ever-changing environment. The told & infirm are weeded out, allowing the species to thrive. Generational succession- this has been our survival strategy. Yet, this strategy has long since reached it's practical limit. It is outdated."
There's a pause as the man goes on writing something. Ivy's fist clench.
"It relies on progeny, which gives rise to unchecked population growth. Resources become scarce, invariably leading to conflict. All the while, death is ever present & robs our species of untold potential. Where man now stands in his evolution, bodies of flesh no longer make sense. What we must strive for next is carefully managed, eternal preservation."
It wouldn't work. The price paid for maintaining the Endless are souls. And souls are not in unlimited stock. They know this already, they have learned this already, but why would anyone still attempt this?
"Calyx...! You're Calyx, aren't you?" The voice of the real Sphene cut through the fog that hung over them all. And the sigh that left the man's lips seemed to speak enough of an answer.
"You know him?"
Sphene affirms with a head nod. "The young genius who had mastered electrope technology, he founded the scientific collective known as Preservation, & devoted himself to finding a cure for the levin sickness paralysis with plagued our people."
So he was another Alexandrian from Sphene time. And if he is alive now, that means she is likely an Endless himself.
"Calyx! You always had your gaze set upon the future, & I know you do now, but I beg you, do not deceive the people of Alexandria! Do not manipulate them with this imitation forged from my memories!"
"Well, how rude." The simulant saunters up to her true counterpart, head tilted, but still with that damned smile to her face. "Yet, whatever you may say, I'm the one whom the people regard as queen. You may have worn the crown for a few years, bot now, you are no one. Just a frail, fleshy version of me that could die at any moment. The kingdom has no use for such as you."
Whatever confidence Sphene had originally had fizzled out in front of them like a spark dying before it could catch flame, & once more, Ivy grit her teeth. Though she had not once & will never be, a ruler of a nation, she did not need to be to know that Sphene's love for her people was true, honest & pure, nothing that which the simulant was, & nothing that which the people of Alexandria truly loved about their queen. She had always strived to give them hope, not drown them in worry & despair as this bloated imposter was doing.
"Our demand is simple: surrender the key. Refusal will necessitate consequences."
Ivy sneared.
"Getting in my way also necessitates consequences, you should prepare to receive them." A threat, a promise, rolled into a words that bit in that familiar venomous tone.
Calyx said nothing in return. But the way he upturned his gaze, suggested an unwillingness to meet that raging tempest in Ivy's eyes directly anymore. It was both like witnessing a storm ravage the sea, & fire rain down from the heavens on high. The screen went black then & there afterward, the simulant vanishing as well, & soon, power returned to the recreation zone, lights filling the buildings & roads once again.
And yet the burn remained. Not merely the burning pain in her veins, still feeling alit with static, but the rage. That which numbed Ivy just enough, & gave her all the fuel she would ever need to bring well deserved revenge to Calyx's doorstep. If that boy thinks for a moment that striking the Warrior of Light like that came without punishment, his awakening would be a rude & sick one indeed.
"We're going to find Calyx."
"Of course." Bringing her fist to her palm, Lamat could not agree more. She had a bone to pick with that simulant.
"But Ivy, you're-"
"I know." She already knew what her sister's protest would be. She had just taken a bolt of levin that would have normally ash-ed anyone else. The pain still lingered, but lightning that such an effect always. If she waited for it to go away, everyone could already be Endless by then. "Trust me, I will be okay. I can take some pain, & I have had much worse, you of all people should know that, Tiff."
The breath that leaves the younger sister was one she didn't realize she had been holding. Of course, Ivy is stronger then anyone she's ever met, the Warrior of Light, Hero of the Star, the Primal Slayer, & so much more. But Ivy is still Ivy, still her sister, so Tiffanie can't help but worry, she doesn't want her overdoing it again.
"You will get proper rest after you get to kick the little twerps head in."

Ocean eyes swing back & forth over the area. Alexandria had always been a rather large place, Ivy had thought she was beginning to get the layout of Solution Nine within the Everkeep at the very least, but this, made her feel as if she knew nothing all over again. Tiffanie felt no better. She had been around this place as much as Ivy, & yet, losing sight of a single person so fast made all that knowledge feel worthless. Wut Lamat, Sphene & Gulool Ja were little different in such a regard, & Xbr'aal inclined her head in her own confusion.
How do they lose sight of one person so easily?
They had been following the simulant, that pale, improper mockery of the true Queen Sphene of Alexandria that stood beside them. Just to lose sight of her the moment she turned this corner.
They knew this was some sort of trap they were being lured into when they started following the imposter, still to have her up & disappear on them like this... perhaps they should be less surprised. They've seen how the false queen is able to move about this quickly.
"Not here... let's press on, if only a little further." The true Sphene whispers the suggestion, floating by the ears for the other four with her, & found the heads of them nodding in agreement.
"No further then the approach to Neon Stein, I suggest." Tiffanie added, & when no disagreement was made, it was safely assumed they all shared the same thought. Which made the group tread forward, with a caution befitting of their situation. The younger sister choose to walk in the front, while the older covered the back, it covered the most important of bases, while their eyes looked about the area. Truly, everything looked as normal. The road ahead cleared, a bridge so some upper level stretched across the center of said road, with a large screen hanging from it, play some sort of entertainment upon it that no one was currently concerned with. The sounds of boots against the electrope flooring was more resounding then all else, & Ivy squared herself to focus on any sudden odd sounds she might be able to hear, as a way of cautioning herself.
And something she did hear, she believes, something that made her pause all movement. A singular beep. Her eyes squared quickly, mouth opening to warn her sister & the rest of the group-
The sound that leaves her instead in an abhorrent shriek ripe with agony. It rings nearly as loud at the brilliant crash of thunder that strikes the Warrior of Light with not an shred of mercy or kindness. Rocketing sheer suffering through her body, veins burn & crackle, feeling as if they wish to explode under her skin, & every hair on her body stands to attention as they act almost like rods for the levin to connect to & scorch out of existence.
For a small miracle, it is over nearly as soon as it begins. The lightning bolt arrives, strikes it's foe, & then is gone. Yet the pain of the experience lingers still. Every fiber of her skin & muscles left charged with static that left a burning, suffering tingle under her skin, veins still boiling inside her. Ivy struggled to stand, & just about fell forward, catching herself at least from completely dropping to the floor, & instead readied herself down onto a knee, with a hand pressed to the floor for additional support.
"IVY!" The Warrior Light hadn't realized it until now, the boom of the levin strike & the ringing left behind in her ears blocked all other sound, but the others had recoiled in their own horror at what they had witnessed happen to her. Tiffanie was already at her sister's side, hand pressed to Ivy's shoulder, keeping her from being able to fall fully forward if her knee were to give out.
"Hey! Are you alright??" The panic in Lamat's voice was clear, with the Xbr'aal setting herself at the other side of Ivy. Though this entire sector of the Everkeep had lost power as a result of the sheer strength within that levinbolt, the lot of them could care less. Their focus belonged to their fallen friend.
Ivy said nothing yet, but let out a groan of agony, voice horse from the scream she had pitched earlier. In response to this, the older sister felt the younger switch the placement of her hands, to allow her dominant hand to rest upon the viper's back, while the lesser one took the place upon the shoulder. Without even asking, with what little conjury she had learned, she applied one of her stronger healing spells. It wouldn't quite remove the pain, but it would keep Ivy from collapsing.
"So, she didn't die. Vexing, but expected."
The male voice as unfamiliar, & it made the group turn their attentions away from the stuck Warrior of Light, to that screen that hung above the road, the one attached to the bridge. While the rest of the area was without power, this screen somehow had stayed on, or rather, was reactivated manually, by the one whose shadowy visage now was hosted upon it little doubt. Much was difficult to discern, but the vague shapes of the face could be made out, along with something strap to their neck area.
As soon as the group turn their attention to that screen, the man's attention seemed to shift away, movements suggested he was writing something down, as his head shifted downward.
A low growl of sorts rippled through Ivy's throat, her head shifting upward to beam the one responsible for this down with her eyes. The ocean within those orbs beginning to form waves. A hand raises from off the ground, grasping onto Tiffanie's on her shoulder, making the other woman pause in her healing.
"I am fine."
"But-"
"I swear, I am fine, Tiff." Ivy's insistence was truly the only thing that would make Tiffanie pause her actions. She always knew just how much stronger then everyone else her older sister was, but it didn't give her pause to worry. Still, she can do nothing if Ivy refuses.
"That was about the strongest bolt we can produce within Everkeep. What now?" Emerging from behind the screen, atop the bridge, that stupidly unfitting smug grin to her face, was the one that brought them here. The simulant of Sphene. The imposter wearing the face of the Queen of Alexandria, & using their love of her against them.
"We obtain more precise measurements. Narrow the range of variables to avoid unnecessary trail & error. That is the most expeditious course of action." The voice of the man on the screen spoke again. His tone utterly detached & monotone, is sounded nearly as if he spoke with no soul.
"... I know that voice." The true Sphene muttered this to herself softly, eyes trained heavily upon the screen & the man who still seemed to be going about writing something before him.
Eyes flick between the screen & the simulant, only for them to settle upon the imposter when movement is seen. She had cast herself from the edge of the bridge, floating down to the same level as the group. Heels touched the floor with a soft clack, & eyes quickly settle upon Ivy, the Warrior of Light, still knelt upon the floor from static pains coursing her veins, & the Warrior of Darkness placed beside her. The simulant smiled at her.
"You! Yes you there!" The fake Sphene called out then, waving her arms to Ivy, as if she was greeting an old friend, & began to approach her. "We have important business with you!"
The actions of the simulant brought Tiffanie to shoot to a standing position, suddenly on her heels, & repositioning herself to stand Infront of the Warrior of Light. After what just happened, the simple thought of this thing being near her sister churned her stomach vilely.
"Stay away from her." Tiffanie did not shout, but the threatening tone in her voice spoke enough. And the message was clearly received, as the simulant stopped her advance, regarded the Pictomancer quietly for but a brief glance, before reaffixing her gaze back to her original intended target.
"We left something in your keeping." The imposter spoke right past the Warrior of Darkness, as if she wasn't there at all, & made a gesture. Leaning forward with both of her hands out & open. "The key to interdimensional fusion. You will kindly return it to us, yes?"

This small amount of time Karma had with Ivy while she was staying at the village was always like a vacation to the brawler. Regardless of how Karma wouldn’t let Ivy sleep alone, finding ways to invade her bed, take her to Karmas own or just simply asking, it was all too common for them to wake up in the morning together with varying amounts of clothes on.
Though, this morning in particular was different than the rest. As Karma’s eyes opened to fix pink hues on a back full of jagged scars from what Karma could only expect to be from a mages thunder, she couldn’t help herself to reach out and simply trail a finger along the outline of the scar tissue, feeling each and every bump until her hand flattens at the top of her shoulder.
She moves in a little, knowing by now that Ivy was awake and simply whispers so gently into her ear. “Stay still… Trust me.” Trust. Something so easily given from fools like Karma and so easily taken for granted. The pinkette could only pray that Ivy had faith in her as when that palm moves, it leaves a trail of light green that fades quickly. A rejuvenating cure, one that wouldn’t take the scars away, oh no, Karma was not anywhere near powerful to do something like that… But she can will the Aether to bend and hasten under her palm much like many white mages.
However, what makes this far different is this specific form of Cure was a staple of her village. One that produces a warmth, a care, a love within the other person. A calming sensation that relaxes muscles and removes pain from raised tissue that may be a bother.
And that hand trails all throughout the scarring, leaving a ghost of lime green in its wake, dipping down into the furthest reaches of each jagged scar until that hand raises to grip the woman’s shoulder gently and pull so that she turns and once facing one another, Karma’s pink hues dilate just a little, a breath stolen and a hand raising to the Hero’s cheek. Each movement finds a new, faded blemish of a scar. So many battles. So many injuries and yet she is still here. Still smiling, still her same self.
And once those hands trailed down bare arms to find calloused hands, Karma took her time. Bringing each finger tip to her lips, each kiss given reverberates a green ripple that fades easily down her digits. All ten of them, each given the proper devotion, care and love they deserve and once on the last hand, Karma keeps her hands in Ivy’s, silent, looking at the woman and letting the moment of the morning wash over them with birds chirping and villagers conversing outside the brawlers small home in the streets nearby. There was so much she wanted to say, so much she wanted to tell Ivy but maybe… her actions spoke for themselves, she doesn’t need to say anything just… let the moment of pure love pass and feel one another’s presence in peace.
The sun always kissed her skin so sweetly in the morning, her pale, ishgardian tones did not look as if they had any place being so picturesque in these bright rays, but they beheld her so like a lover. Bringing light to the parts of the warrior that so few often regard. The proof of her many battles & trails, every survival from so many brushes with death, every foe beaten but not forgotten.
Ivy's own abilities in healing always allowed her to quickly tend to her own wounds, & so many of her allies also too, held a talent in the healing arts, but that did not mean all her wounds closed completely. Her scars are faded, impossible to see at a distance, & only attentive eyes noticed them upclose.
The pink eyes that now gazed upon her are just that: attentive.
Trust me, Karma says, as if she is requested an mammoth squeeze into a mole hill. Perhaps one version of herself from the past would have found handing over such a thing to a bed partner to be that level of difficulty, but the warrior has long had a change of heart to her, something so wherry & burdened, still carried so much love & light within.
In doing so, the sensation brought to her was the ever most delicate kiss of aethereal warmth. Not the sort of cures or diagnosis that she is familiar with, but more akin to something else, like a tender hug from a friend, wrapping itself around her upper back. And it dawns onto Ivy that is where the marks from the levin bolt from the Everkeep remained. Tiffanie's quickly applied conjury had healed most of the damage, but Ivy's own rage didn't allow her to properly heal away the scars. They were faint to the eye, rather ever noticed, & to haven them tended to like this brought a certain wave of embarrassment across her being.
She's the Warrior of Light, savior of the star, the untouched, unbeatable, having someone notice something that is a point of her imperfections, burns her face & ears a pointed red color.
The warmth that travels throughout her being breaks whatever guards she could attempt to hold up. It makes her feel weak, vulnerable, & yet, she does not attempt to fight against it. Karma is no foe she need protect herself from, she is as full of life & love as Ivy herself, she could be confused with another shard of Azem on that alone if it were possible. Instead, the warrior allows Karma her freedom to do with her as she pleased, easily moving & molding under her palms, & beholds her movements in awed silence as she moved to attend to the deeply calloused fingers. Years of casting, wielding weapons against foes & friends alike, have given them a certain bruise, a certain roughness that was bone deep, that made her handle others with more care. Few handle Ivy with the same such care, & it melted the bright red of her face into a more calming, adoring pink.
When all was done, there wasn't anything that needed to be said. Talker the both of them are surely, but silence, Ivy has found, speaks as much as any words; sometimes more even. The warrior slips her palms free, if only so they could find a better purchase around the woman who nursed so tenderly, pulling the pinkette into her freshly soothed arms. Holding her, letting the wordless graduate & love seep from her being into Karma's.
Birdsong filled the air from just outside the window, chatter & a few chocobo 'khews' followed it in suit, sounds that normally rouse Ivy into wakefulness, ready to cease a new adventure. Yet for today, it assured her all was still right in the world, even if she were to lay here for a few more moments, with delight in her heart, ease melted onto her skin & love held within her arms.
I've brought it up before in a few threads but Ivy & Tiffanie have some pretty defined tastes to their lips & skin.
Ivy tastes like sea salted air. This really doesn't have anything to do with her preference with the beach, but it ties into it, as it does often invoke the feeling of kissing someone at the beach. And what does the beach so often represent in media? Escapism, romance, & leisure, themes perfectly befitting her character, it often too invokes the feeling of freedom, something so highly prized by Ivy herself & the gift she wishes to give others.
Kissing Ivy, is need, like kissing freedom, but it is also like being known so intimately & adoringly.
Tiffanie, is unsurprisingly to everyone, a soft floral, but it comes with a hidden hint of citrus as well. Flowers are so often seen as these soft & delicate things, while citrus implies zest & liveliness. It is a combination of her more soft nature & the women she originally was before adventuring, & her newly formed energy to experience all her new life has to offer her.
Kissing Tiffanie is the feeling of having someone melt against you, while pulling you in to experience more.
