This was an odd conversation to be having in the middle of a parking lot at 7 in the morning. Certainly they both had to know that. It felt like the roles were reversed. Vivian was trying to reach out but Dana was the one who didnât believe it. Or more so, Dana was confused by it. She was set to leave but something in the softness of her tone told her not to. Why did Vivian care if Dana looked after herself? The last part surprised her. Vivian didnât seem to want Dana around her so why would she want Dana around her kid. She stared at the ground for a few moments, trying to figure out what to say. What was going on? Did she really think she had to be nice to get Dana to keep her secret? Finally she lifted her eyes to Vivian, speaking softer than she had been previously, âWould you like to come over? Brynn has left for work but I could make you some breakfast.âÂ
This certainly wasnât the way that Vivian was expecting to spend her morning. If someone had told her a week ago that sheâd be grateful for an invitation to Danaâs house then she wouldâve laughed in their face, but here she was. âI- yeah, thatâd be nice. So long as youâre sure? I donât want to impose,â she nodded, giving her sister a rare smile. She didnât have many people in her life, and itâd be nice to not feel so lonely.
nicholaslowry¡:
Nicholas kept a steady gaze on her. He knew Vivianâs mother had been anything but. Yet, that didnât mean she couldnât be one other. âViv,â he shook his head, âThat doesnât mean anythinâ to me. Iâve seen plenty of people come in here in my last few years in residency, most of them thinkinâ they werenât fit to be mothers. Theyâre doinâ just fine and you have me on your side.â He told her, meaning it sincerely. He would do just about anything for Vivian. He nodded his head, understanding her dilemma with the family. He was thankful the Lowry family was as tight knit as they were. His support system was unfathomable at times. âI know you donât think youâre goinâ to be a good mother, but look at Elijah? You ever think that boy thought he was going to be a dad? He was playinâ professional basketball and heâs doinâ a damn good job of raising Liv. You know Iâll be the best damn uncle that kids got, for yours too.âÂ
âI donât know, Nick. Those other women arenât me. Have I even come across even slightly maternal? I just donât know how to do it.â Vivian shook her head at his words. She couldnât deal with lies or pity. There were very few people she respected, and Nick was one of the select few - but even he was lying to her. âHe is. Youâre right. But your family is different to mine, Nick. Knox will kill me. The others probably wonât care, and my parents will say theyâre too young to be grandparents.â Groaning, she leaned back in the chair. âYou will be... That is something Iâm sure of. God, I wish it was your child Nick.â It wasnât that she was attracted to him. But she knew where she stood with Nick, and she knew heâd stand up - it was nothing like that with Harry.
auroraxmaddox¡:
âYouâre going to be a great mom, okay? Just trust me.â She smiled reassuringly, knowing exactly what Vivianâs mother was like and she was sure that her best friend would be nothing like that woman with her own child. âOf course, Iâll come with you. Any and all appointments, Iâm there.â As much as Vivian needed her, Aurora would be right by her side and it wasnât just because she was pregnant either, regardless of what was going on, Vivian was like family to her. With the glasses filled, Aurora moved back over to Vivianâs side before offering her one of the glasses as she took a seat once more. âHe wonât hate you, you two could never hate each other. Heâll probably be shocked and maybe pissed that you didnât tell him sooner but heâll get over it. Do you want me to be there when you tell him? For moral support and all?â
âI donât know, Aura. Iâm not convinced about it.â Sighing, Vivian decided it would be easier to drop the conversation. She knew Aurora was just as stubborn as she was. They were just going to end up going around in circles. âThanks. Seriously.â She didnât do long confessions or displays, but Vivian had and would always be grateful for her best friend. Sheâd always been there when she needed it most. She knew she was lucky to have her. âOh, he will. Itâs not in the plan. When he finds out its Harryâs? I wonât be surprised if disowns me then and there.â The reality was stark, and Vivian wasnât sure she was quite ready to face it yet - not amongst everything else. âNo, I think itâs something I need to do alone.â
natzelimartinez¡:
âSee thatâs different. You always shoot me down. you start accepting it then Iâm gonna have issues. Youâre too hot not to fall for Vivian. Canât give me any hint of an in,â a grin ran across her face before it stopped, eyebrows furrowing together, âYou do not need to lose weight. Youâre like⌠the size of my pinky girl.âÂ
âThat is noted. I will try and be more forceful in future. Iâm very meek and mild, so it might be a bit of a struggle,â Vivian joked, nodding at Zeliâs words. âI mean thatâs not exactly right. Iâve put on a little lately too.â It was hardly a lie, but she wasnât going to explain everything to the other woman unless she had to. âWhy so many grapefruit questions, Zeli? Let a woman live.â

dearbrynn¡:
Despite that it sounded like the blonde was trying to jab at her emotions, Brynn wouldnât let herself fall prey to her comments. Itâs not too difficult; she is rather thick skinned for the most part. She presses her lips together and nods slowly. âI like to meet a person before I make my judgments.â She states simply.
âIs that the case? Well, you are a real saint. Iâm sure you can absolutely guarantee that nothing Danaâs said will have tainted your views.â Vivian raises an eyebrow at her. She didnât care what the woman thought of her - but she now just wanted to see her knocked down from her high horse.
catherinexbristol¡:
âHave you had these cookies?â Catherine asked, holding up a Molasses Crackle sheâd brought from Wild Flour Bakery. It was her third cookie sheâd bitten into that day, and she wanted to eat the whole thing. âThese are so good-like really, really good! I canât even make anything like thisâŚyou think I should make some for the next bingo meeting for the ladies?â @frostfordstart¡
Vivian normally avoided anything sweet, or at least anything full of unnecessary sugar. But not today. She had a box full of as many lemon cookies as she could buy, and she was hoping that nobody would question her unusual behaviour. âUh, no. Not really my thing,â she shrugged. âI also know nothing about bingo women, nor do I have an inclination to. But I would guess itâs not worth badly recreating something - better to have the real thing.â
maisiexpeters¡:
âAnd if they never gave?â
âUnlikely theyâre completely clean - nobody is. But then maybe they need to grow a backbone a stand up for themselves.â
dearbrynn¡:
brynn nods, âyouâre right.â she tells her and clears her throat. she had not truly intended to stomp her way in and act so arrogantly, but her drive to protect and defend her wife had overran her. âthough, i do know dana. i married her, and iâm a good judge of character, and what our marriage has entailed thus far is something you donât know.â
âI never claimed to know about your marriage, Brynn. I mean how could I? Dana didnât even tell anyone it existed until she needed a day off work.â That hadnât ended well - Vivian had had to find another receptionist after Dana stormed out. âBut Iâm glad youâre such a perceptive person. Iâm sure you had us all figured out before you even met us.â The sarcasm was thick in her tone.
danahq¡:
âIâm sure,â she stated, plainly. There were no ifs ands or buts to the idea of Vivian as a mother. She shrugged slightly when she mentioned the other siblings, âI know. You donât have to explain your timeline to me. This is your thing, Vivian. You tell people when youâre ready to tell them.â Her eyes scanned the empty parking lot, other than their cars and the workers. This was awkward, at least it felt awkward to Dana. âWell,â she stated quietly, âI donât want to keep you from whatever you have to do today and you have my word that your secrets safe with me so, I guess Iâll see you around?â
Vivian hadnât expected anyone to have any faith in her, least of all Dana. But here they were. âThanks Dana.â For once, it was sincere. She was genuinely grateful. She wasnât sure why, but she felt like she could trust her. Vivian wouldâve liked to put it down to her hormones, but she had to admit that maybe her sister wasnât the person sheâd pegged for. âRight, yeah. If thatâs what you want,â she replied softly. âLook after yourself, please... Youâll have a niece or nephew to be there for.â It was far from typical Vivian, yet now felt like the time to be building bridges.

âRight, yes, sorry Vivian. Iâd love to go to court, if the offer still stands. I stayed up finishing up the paperwork for Fridayâs case.â Janet wasnât a kiss ass by any means. She proved her worth through her dedication, and the sheer amount of good work she did for the firm.
âGood. I think itâll be good for you. I want you to take on some white collar cases - if youâre willing?â Vivian held out the file to Janet. She pushed her hard, but only because she knew she could take it.
asiajanellelowry¡:
It was as if sheâd seen a ghost when she turned to see Vivian handing her the wall sheâd supposedly dropped not too long ago. âThank you, Ms. Abernathy.â Professional as always, Asia bowed her head in thanks and took the wallet from the blondeâs hand. âI will.â she wasnât really sure what else to say, so she gave a thin lipped smile and waved her hand before smiling at Vivian. âHave a lovely day, Ms. Abernathy!â
Vivian didnât bother to correct Asia and ask her to use her first name. If anything, at least Ms. Abernathy showed some kind of respect. She had thought the younger girl might resent her for firing her, as was usually the case. âNo worries, Asia,â she replied, nodding. âI hope youâre keeping well.â In reality, Vivianâs interest stretched only to the fact that the girl was Nickâs sister. But it was courteous to ask, and she did need to keep up some sort of appearance.
natzelimartinez¡:
âGod, as tempting as it is to be your first adventure into lady land. I canât continue to fall for a straight girl. I must keep you in my head as off the limits before my heart really breaksâ she chuckled. Shrugging, âNo worries, really. Iâm headed that way anyway. Why the sudden hankering for grapefruit though?â
âItâs never stopped you from trying to hit on me before Zeli. But I think itâs probably best. Iâll be fine living my life alone,â Vivian agreed with a small laugh. âOh, right. Well theyâre good for your immune system and weight loss.â She hoped that that was convincing enough to prevent any further questions. Vivian was used to cross-examining, not being the one cross-examined.
@knoxabernathyâ
Vivian working from home more and more, it had become the new normal for her office to be covered in case papers. Today was especially chaotic though. Sheâd invited Knox over under the guise of looking through the documents the juniors had sent over for their upcoming trial. Of course, she could probably do it on her own and he knew that too. Her conversation with Dana had made her worry though; she needed to speak to Knox before he heard the news through someone else.
âDo you want a drink?â she asked, looking up from the witness statement she had been reading. Theyâd been at it for a while now - they were probably due a break. âI think itâs going to be a long one.â
danahq¡:
Thank you? Since when did Vivian Abernathy say thank you. Let alone for something that Dana did.. or in this case didnât do. âNo thanks necessary,â she shrugged. It was a no brainer. What satisfaction would Dana get out of telling anyone about Vivâs pregnancy? If she was going to she would have shouted it the day she quit, walking out of Vivianâs office upset. Even then, the thought never crossed her mind. She was about to leave, assuming the conversation was over. Vivian got what she wanted. She stopped in her tracks when Viv spoke again. âAbout the size of a plum,â Dana stated, the first thing that came to mind. A soft smile crossed her lips before she stated quietly, âNot that itâll mean much to you Viv, but I think youâre gonna be a great mom.â Vivian really looked out and cared for the people she loved. Dana had never been that, but Dana had witnessed others be it. The baby was in safe hands.Â
A plum. She didnât even want to question why Dana knew that. Vivian barely knew that herself - only from a few late night googles as sheâd begun to come to terms with the pregnancy. âRight. I read that,â she nodded. Danaâs smile was noticeable. Vivian had never really thought about the idea of her pregnancy bringing joy to anyone. For her, it had been more of a time of fear. âIâm not so sure. But thanks, I guess.â Vivian let out a soft sigh. She would never be able to accept any comments about her being a good mother. How could Dana say that? She, of all people, knew the example theyâd had. âI will tell the others. Just not yet.â It wasnât like the Abernathys were close. Vivian didnât think any of them would be interested in a niece or nephew.

danahq¡:
The relief of Vivian being gone lasted for the two seconds she had between the store and the outside. She jumped slightly, startled by her sisterâs sudden words. She really hadnât expected her to stick around. Her eyes scanned Vivianâs face, confused as to the sudden change in voice. It was hurtful that Vivian would even think for a second that Dana would go spread this news to other people, but then again Vivian didnât think anything positive about Dana. âVivian,â she started, âContrary to your own personal beliefs, I am not, nor have I ever, wanted to intentionally hurt you. Of course I know, but thatâs not my news to share. Donât worry about it.â
She could only take Dana on her word. But then Vivian supposed that sheâd actually known for nearly as long as she had herself, and nobody else knew yet - at least nobody had said anything to her. âI, right-... Thank you.â She stumbled over her words in a way that was very uncharacteristic. Although she hadnât felt much like herself for weeks, whatever facade she tried to keep up for the rest of the world. âThree months, if you were interested,â she admitted. She wasnât sure why she said it, but it was about as close to confessing the truth as she was going to get.
danahq¡:
âThen you shouldnât be asking questions you donât even care to know the answer for,â she stated. Waiting behind Vivian to continue checking out. She hoped Vivian would just take her stuff and leave before Dana finished checking out. Avoid this whole thing. Dana loved Vivian, so much, but being around her hurt Dana to the point it was almost hard for her to function. Being around most of her siblings did that. She couldnât help but wonder why Vivian wanted to care now. Didnât she get what she wanted? Dana quit her job and was leaving her alone. Stepping up once Vivian was done, she set her stuff down, grabbing a pack of gum and tossing it up before quickly paying and starting to walk to exit the store, digging through her purse for where she had tossed her keys. They were already getting weird looks from Resa, working behind the counter.Â
It was a fair comment. Sheâd never really taken an active interest in Danaâs life, but then Dana had never really shown interest in hers until recently. âAlright then.â Vivian shook her head as she walked out of the pharmacy, leaving a bemused Resa and her sister behind. She wanted to storm off, to ignore her sister, but there was one thought eating away at her. âI know you know,â she stated, cornering Dana as she walked out of the store. She didnât need to say it in so many words; it was obvious to both of them. âDonât tell anyone, please.â Her tone was different now - softer, more pleading. She just couldnât have Knox find out from someone else.
