𝐦𝐲    𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲    𝐢𝐬    𝐚    𝐜𝐚𝐠𝐞    𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭    𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬    𝐦𝐞   𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦    𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠    𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡    𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐨𝐧𝐞    𝐈    𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 ,    𝐛𝐮𝐭    𝐦𝐲    𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝    𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬    𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐤𝐞𝐲 .

                        these   first   lines   speak   volumes   about   mary .        first ,        her   past ,        her   trauma ,     the   scars   on   her   skin   and   shards   of   glasses   keep   her   away   from   getting   close    to   anyone ;     she’s   paranoid   and   afraid ,        she   hardly   trusts   anyone .         for   the   first   part   I   think   it’s   important   to   consider   this   lyric   in   the   context   of   mary   being   a   lesbian   woman   born   in   the   19th   century ;     her   body   is   a   cage ,        she   cant   dance   with   the   one   she   loves .      as    as   lesbian   woman ,     she   always   had   to   hold   her   feelings ,   desires   and   affections   as    a   secret   because   of   her   violent   and   abusive   environment .                          not   to   mention   that   her   physical   scars   as   well   as   lack   of   turst   and   easily   triggered   anger   keeps   her   away   from   people .          the   experiences   in   her   past   scarred   her   so   much ,        that   she   can’t   simply   trust   just   anyone . 

𝐈'𝐦    𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠    𝐨𝐧    𝐚    𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞   𝐨𝐟    𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫    𝐚𝐧𝐝    𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐭 ,    𝐢𝐭'𝐬    𝐚    𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰    𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲    𝐛𝐮𝐭    𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐥𝐥    𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐩    𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐰𝐚𝐲

                           mary   loves   when   there’s   an   audience   and   a   lot   of   fuss   around .           she   truly   is   a   performer ,      she   screams   and   fights   and   tears   herself   apart   to  bring   justice   to   her   enemies .     she   enjoyes   gore   and   the   theatric   aspect   of   a  fight ;       she’ll   always   pretend   to   have   an   audience ,         will   speak   to  the   third   person   as   if   she   was   a   magician ,       an   illusionist   presenting   tricks   before   a   group   of   a   curious   bunch .         mary   will   always   put   up   a   show ,    whether   it   is   to   show   off   before   her   coworkers   or   her   boss . 

𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡    𝐦𝐲    𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞    𝐢𝐬    𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝    𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥    𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬    𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥    𝐦𝐲    𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝

                 mary’s   past   is   dead ,      she   no   longer   lives   in   the   19th   century ,    but   the   harm   that   was   done   to   her   is   not   forgotten .      she   feels   like   her   speech   is   limited ,         like   she   can’t   expose   the   man   that   impregnated   her ,    abused   her    and    stole   her   shild   without   being   called   hideous   names .         mary   deals   with   her   pain   in   silence ,          hoping   that   no   man   will   hold   it   against   her .

𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡    𝐭𝐡𝐞    𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫    𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬    𝐦𝐞    𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠    𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥    𝐦𝐲    𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭    𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬    𝐬𝐨    𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐰

                         it   was   the   blood - soaked   past   that   kept   her   focused .     the    fear   of   the   mirror   man   following   her   was   no   longer   relevant   ———   he   was   the   catalyst .       but   mary   helf   her   gun   right   by  her   right   hand ,        soft   skin   glides   against   the   chrome   silver   shade   of   a   military   pistol .            the   danger   was   real ,         her   fear   was   real ,          however   her   strength   and   power   were   mightier   than   any   fuckin’   stats   mary’s   ex - husband   could   buy .

𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭    𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞    𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐯𝐞    𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧    𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭    𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭    𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧    𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞    𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧

                         this   honestly   just   screams   the   man   from   the   mirror   manipulating   mary ,    physically   and   mentally   abusing   her   and   stealing   her   child .     he   has   been   forgotten ,    he   disappeared   and   stopped   pestering   innocent   women ,    however   mary   will   never   forgive   him .        she   will   continue   to   hunt   him   down ,    make   his   life   a   living   hell   for   all   the   pain   that   he’s   caused   her .    the   whole   community   of   fables ,    even   the   world   has   forgotten   him .            but   mary   didn’t .
