Brandi Tinklenberg

One of the things I have trouble understanding about many of the Columbiners is the hate/dislike of Brandi Tinklenberg. I’ve seen people on Tumblr call her a bitch and say that if they saw her in real life they would physically hurt or kill her. I can understand feeling protective of Eric and sad that he felt rejection from her. However, she had the right to turn him down if she was not interested in him, she had the right to turn him down even if she was interested. Even if Eric was the perfect guy, she still had the right to choose - Eric being interested in her and asking her to Prom does not mean that she obligated to accept.

She wasn’t cruel in her rejection either; In an article that was floating around Tumblr, she said “I hadn’t planned on going to Prom, it was late notice… It was nothing against Eric. He was always really sweet to me.” A girl in their video productions class came up to her on April 14 (which is only a few days before Prom) and asked if she was interested in going with Eric and she said “No, not really.” I personally don’t see what is wrong with her response. He had someone else ask her and she said no. And she figured he was too shy or embarrassed to ask her himself, so it maybe was the right thing for her to not go over and talk to him or explain because he likely didn’t want to talk about it with her directly.

As for the “Eric in Columbine” video, I personally thought she was a little annoying. She does seem a little flirty with him, but it seems like that was more just her personality than her leading him on.

I could be wrong, but from everything I’ve read about her and her relationship with Eric, she never intentionally tried to hurt him. She was not trying to make him feel bad in her rejection. I don’t feel like her saying no is reason to call her a bitch or hate her or escalate to physical violence. If there is more to her relationship with Eric than what I’m seeing, I’d love to hear it 😊

She did have every right to say no, but she went out of her way to make him feel bad. She pretended not to know his name. She told him she would sit with him in the cafeteria, but when she got down there she sat with someone else and pretended Eric wasn’t even there. When he was talking to her she blatantly ignored him to talk to this kid named Jeremy, who she obviously liked.

Nobody said she had to date Eric if she wasn’t interested, but she didn’t have to be mean to him either.

^ I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Brandi couldn’t force herself to like Eric but she could’ve at least treated him like a friend. She knew Eric had a crush on her but she decided to flirt with another guy while Eric was right next to her. That’s cold and disgusting. You don’t do that to another human being.
