A few months after the loss of Maximus, a new empire is crowned. Commodus died during his last fight with Maximus in the arena. Since then, much has changed. Commodus' body was given to the vultures. The people of Rome did not think he deserved an honorable burial. Lucilla became a prisoner of Rome. According to the new emperor, she had gone against the rules of the divine bloodline. Normally that person would then be killed but because of her beauty and especially because all the people of Rome loved her so much, he spared her her fate. Lucius the son of Lucilla and successor as emperor of Rome was allegedly killed. He was only 12 years old. Many details about his death were never known. Conspiracy theories about his death were told everywhere. Some thought he was killed by powerful men, some thought he was fed to the lions and even some thought his own mother Lady Lucilla may have killed him.
In the end, a new emperor was chosen for Rome. Emperor Pertinax would be the new emperor. Although he was assassinated after 87 days. The people of Rome were dissatisfied with his strict policies and the city began to have more problems financially as well. From then on, a power struggle began in which several generals wanted to claim the throne.
In the end, Septimius Severus emerged victorious and became the new emperor of Rome. He was a beloved emperor by the people and army. But to the senate and all those with power in Rome, he was rather seen as a dangerous man. He made sure that both the powerful people and the senate had nothing more to say in Rome. Only he would still rule the Roman Empire. But surely Lucilla, the senate and some more powerful men would not let that happen….
