Im very excited to start uploading twice a week again soon. Things are calming down and i feel confident i can resume more frequent updates. We re also almost done with chapter 1, i believe in like 5 more updates ish ??? Because this is a serialized drama, the first chapter is so much more heavier than for a comedy, like rodney was.

Originally i wanted to have femi have a glue gun to put dee back together but it was so involved, and duct tape looks funnier anyway.

Im getting close to the end of chapter 1!!!!! For chapter 2, im still debating if i do slice of life roomie life between mave femi and dee or if we check in with Erin..... So many options....

Guys im so happy to be drawing these characters again, they make me so happy lol!!!! I already wrote the next 2 updates so im really excited to get back into the grooves of things. TDLR everything was crazy and overwhelming but now things are manageable and i am working on getting my stamina back. The goal is to start updating more than once a week! Anyway i can t wait to draw Mave and Kartik fight, because while Dee offered some resilience, he is overall very weak and as all protagonists need to start, just level 0 strength rn. Maverick and Kartik have ~history~ and power so this will be a more leveled fight.... Maybe 😏 i was telling one of my friends it might be a faster fight than the dee and kartik one and he was like oh no u gotta drag this on a bit i wanna see some spectacle soooo idkkkk what do you all think hahahaha. I mean i have the main cool beats written out, i think rn it s gonna be maybe 5 updates worth of fighting....

Life has been crazy but things are resolving. Weeee! Thanks for all the love on my previous posts, you guys rule. I'm in the middle of figuring out a lot of life stuff, but i think maybe it's looking up! I just can't wait to get my head back into this comic and get updates out more frequently tbh!

The webcomic is hopefully back on track! I'm going to be at Torontocomics this weekend!!! Please come say hi if you're canadian heheh! I will have some Rodney and Awol stuff!!! I m dying to have more character moments happen in this webcomic, i feel like it's been a lot of plot and the characters need a little room to breathe! Im actually deciding on how long to make the Maverick and Kartik fight.... THOUGHTS ANYONE? I feel like i ve been away for a million years when it s only really been 2 weeks haha... I love drawing this webcomic, i missed it a lot! Soon we'll get to see how Mave Femi and Dee become a unit.

This was originally part of a larger comic update but I am trying to post more often so I'm forcing myself to post shorter webcomic updates!

I've been thinking a lot about non-linear narratives: this comic was developed with the idea of breaking away from a conventional linear style of storytelling. It's something I haven't done before and that's exciting to explore, I'm curious to see how well it's going to be received. I am going out on a limb with this idea but I think it can be a fun writing exercise and also maybe interesting for the audience since there will be more to go back in the posts and piece things together. I think the way content is shared on the internet has changed how people interact with stories: short form content and flashes of moments are more common now. this has opened a lot of doors for artists like myself whose primary means of expression is social media. Even though I work in animation as a day job, which is traditional linear storytelling, the place I get to make my own work and express myself is through the internet. It's tempting to do the thing I already know how to do (classic storytelling) but I've been thinking that I need to break away from that.

The gimmick to explore that is the bottom left part of each panel which indicates the timestamp, the point of view and memory ping. I'm really glad to see that you all have picked up on it and have started to notice the pings shifting and POV's shifting, but I haven't yet changed the timestamp. It will allow for the story to flash back and Flash Forward but I think now people are familiar with this comic enough that I can turn the dial on every three of these parameters. I'm still figuring out my footing in terms of how traditional vs how experimental I want to be with AWOL, but since this is a passion project (i'm coming to terms with the idea that this wont be my main gig), that opens the door for me to take more risks creatively! Not much to say, I've just been extremely busy, life just isn't letting up and i really wish it would but i guess it's not in the cards for me!!!!!! Maybe there s a lesson i need to learn and my skull's too d4mn thick to learn it!

Im in a pickle! More frequent, shorter updates, or less frequent longer updates???

Couple of news, my cartoon cartoons short came out yesterday! It's called Madison and Skyler, it has been spelled out in a title a little bit differently from how I have been spelling it out so make sure you use the new spelling if you're googling it. also I just moved, and we found a litter of kittens under our patio. It's been a lot of work taken care of these kittens but they're really healthy and super cute. Might have found a home for them. It's just really eaten at my schedule. But everything's slowly going back to normal and I'm hoping that my free time opens up again and that I can start posting AWOL at least twice a week. That is my goal and I will not let up on that because I love making this comic and i love this story! Okay see you soon for pt2!!! Finally, the update is here! I'm so excited! I've been sitting on the writing for this for almost 2 weeks. Everything's been kind of insane but things are starting to finally calm down. As always, I really really want to build back my buffer of updates, which I think I might be able to start doing now that I'm done with every other side projects I have on the back burner.

I'm starting to get some really cool comments showing the interest in this project. I want to say you guys are awesome, and I love drawing and writing this comic for you all. I'm having so much fun coming up with the world, the characters and the story beats. This is honestly my favorite project I've ever worked on. Like I said, I would probably still be writing and drawing this project even if no one was reading it. But seeing the engagement and how people are invested in the mechanics and the world is really awesome.

I'm planning on releasing the new update later this week because I was stabling at WonderCon over the weekend. That's usually when I work on the AWOL updates. Because I'm so busy during the week working on my day job and recently I was spending all of my free time working on a short for dropout I wouldn't have the time to work on AWOL updates during the week. Fortunately, I am done working on the hardest part of that short, so I am finally getting my evenings back, which means I can try to build the buffer for awol again. I love making this web comic. It's so fun to write and draw, of course Rodney was fun to write and draw as well but AWOL has more lore and World building and extravagant story beats that are more fun and exciting for me to work on.

In other news, I will have a short drop on WB s YouTube channel drop on May 4th so I'm going to start posting about that at the end of my AWOL posts just to build awareness!

And I am moving very soon which is going to be a hassle and that's the reason why I am probably going to miss one week of update? We'll see either. I'm really smart and I managed to keep a seamless update schedule or maybe I am not as diligent and I mess it up. We'll see.

I'm also going to be tabling at tcaf for the first time which is super exciting and a little scary cuz I've never tabled outside of the country. And I am tabling at a free event coming up soon in April 25th. If you're in the LA area, make sure to come and say hi. I'm still looking into tabling at Boston Fan Expo. But my summer is already looking crazy and I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it.
